Title: Snowpocolypse
Post by: Jacquelyn on January 12, 2011, 02:40:05 AM
It's currently 3:40 in the morning and I should be sleeping. Thanks to my recent lack of jobage and my over the top stress levels my sleep schedule is completely screwed to say the least.

Normally I would take my dog for a walk or just go for a little adventure on my own but seeing as there is 9 inches of snow on the ground I think that would be an awful idea.

Yet another reason for me to loathe snow.

If my dog didn't look so damn cute frolicking in it than I'd have to send it my damnation's... I may do that anyway. I hate hate hate hate hate hate HATE being cold. The forecast in my area is calling for snow 3 days in a row next week. I may die.

No trucks have come up the hills around where I stay and I have been iced and snowed in for 3 days now. If it doesn't get any warmer than they say it is looking like friday or saturday before it goes away. I don't think we have had this much snow here since 1993. I would be foaming but I am attempting to deal. Everytime I am stuck inside I start thinking of all the places I could be going. If I weren't stuck in I would probably be at home but still! I am sooooo over the winter. I like winter for about a week. That is plenty enough for me. Come on spring!  ;D

I love snow. Although, having to shovel half a foot of drifted snow every few days does make my arms sore. It also sucks that now everyone is driving so the university parking spots are completely full.

However, snow makes everything look really nice.

The biggest problem with snow is when people/cities don't clear it from sidewalks/roads.

Ditto here too.  Being a northern transplant I'm still irritated that something like this (not the worst storm I've ever been through) absolutely paralyzes the city and shuts everything down.

Observe the massive snow, it fornicates.

It's been a huge year so far for rain and snow here, reservoirs are up to capacity, the ski resorts might be open into June, and when we want to go to the snow, we drive (or train) up to Tahoe, then when we're done, we drive back out of it.

Same.

Can't stand the sun. Summer here gets excessively humid as well and it's generally not fun.

I don't really have a favorite season. I tend to like the inbetween of spring-summer and summer-autumn the best. I enjoy being able to dress in a pair of jeans and t-shirt or wear a nice dress without freezing my butt off.

I agree with this. Spring is my absolute favorite time of the year because it's an in-between, with fall coming in second.

I differ in that I prefer winter over summer. Cooking in the heat is worse than freezing, personally.

Yep- all the radio stations you here experts saying that we were ready for the bad weather; but it came in quicker than expected or temperatures dropped more quickly or the wind blew the wrong way. Why can't the uk just admit that its hopeless when it comes to winter. They advice us not to go out in our cars unless absolutely necessary then all the public transport fails

This is not meant to be rude or nasty or just typical Cindy,

Goddess it's hot over here. Can't walk outside as the pavement is so hot. I wear gloves in the car so I can hold the steering wheel.
A person was selling home made snow in the shopping mall at Christmas. I've got trees like those in my garden.

Do I crave snow. NOOOOO!

Sorry people I am sympathetic, really I am.

Ordinarily I love the snow.  But this year, with it snowing every freaking day, I'm getting a little annoyed with it.  Might not be so bad if I had a garage, but I'm getting very tired of having to brush off my car every time I go out.  It's gotten to the point that my whole block has given up on shoveling.  On the other hand, the skiing has been pretty good this year.  ;D

If we had snow in this part of the country the flood waters would be sheets of ice instead.  (Which would be great because I could skate). We have had a whole summer's rain in about 4 days, and lots of towns in this part of the state are still cut off or at risk of flooding when the water makes it's way down the rivers.
Nothing compared to Queensland and New South Wales though, as no loss of life.  To give a comparison  imagine  an area the size of Texas and California  or France and Germany  inundated.

It took me 2 hours to drive home from work tonight instead of the usual 30 minutes because of the current blizzard. However, without the snow there would be no snowboarding, no halfpipe tricks, no big air double jumps, no railjams, no off axis 540's and no Shaun White....I'm just sayin'...

I love the snow in Northern Wisconsin....

Don't get me wrong, when I was younger I was all for snow days. Now, having to shovel it and dry off the dog every time he goes out for a romp in the backyard, it totally SUCKS.

I've been up in that neck of the woods, had a friend who lived in Bemidji - its both deadly and silly.  Any place where you have to put heaters into the cars' engine block and plug them in is too cold for me.  That's a pretty bright line in my life, I spent more than enough of it in the midwest to know better.

Try to zone yerself into a better place mentally Jacquelyn... as once you get outta sleep-sync it can be a b#tch to get it back...  :P

I'm jet-lagged and starring outta hotel window at side-walks piled-high with snow in here in down town Boston... -4c at the mo!!

On final approach to Logan yesterday there ws ice sheets floating in the Bay...

Melatonin, hard-excercising running on the treadmill and a hot bath pre kip/lights out time helps me for sure...

And they had 8 inches of fresh schnei here hit Friday I believe?

So the side-walks are a challenge... without mountain fur-lined boots, which i did bring with me...

But if i get the chance to play in snow high-up in the Alps that's kool, and no chore... and eating fresh pasta on a wooden-chalet balcony terrace with a crystal glacier mountain view... midday post morning downhill ski efforts is a divertismént I never tire off...

And snow-ball fights can be fun too... if with a fit SO....

Try to zone yerself into a better place mentally Jacquelyn... as once you get outta sleep-sync it can be a b#tch to get it back...  :P

I just saw this, believe me I am trying. It's killing me. But thanks for the suggestions. :)

Anyway, 6-10 more inches today. :(

Here's the run down (as told by Bear):

Woke up this morning and looked out the window.

What are we going to do about this?

I've been up in that neck of the woods, had a friend who lived in Bemidji - its both deadly and silly.  Any place where you have to put heaters into the cars' engine block and plug them in is too cold for me.  That's a pretty bright line in my life, I spent more than enough of it in the midwest to know better.

The snow you all get sounds dreadful. I love the kind that disappears after a day or two. It is anticipated to be a high of 63 degrees on the Oregon coast today and a low of 40. Clouds and sun.
Jennifer I am sympathetic.

Tekla I agree.

16.9 inches of snowfall yesterday. On top of what was already on the ground. That said, the 3 people who are gainfully employed in our house are not going to work today (the plows still haven't come to clear the street, the cars just won't move).

Also, when I let my pup out it simply looks like he is swimming through the back yard, only his head is above the snow.

I hope you hung around for THE POLAR BEAR PLUNGE where they cut a hole in the ice with a chainsaw and jump in the water naked on New Years Day.  It takes the edge off of the hangover.

Traditions like that take some doing, have many people died?

We've got an intense hot weekend coming. Not looking forward to it. It will be high fire danger too. There is another cyclone off Queensland which is recovering from floods, and the Feds have decided to place a 'special tax' to pay for the flood repairs.

I haven't heard of any deaths but I know many who have gotten frostbite, cuts and bruises. I've been watching your weather problems, I hope things get better soon. :)

Well, I woke up to ... more freakin snow!!!!!  I hate having to deal with rush hour in the snow!

My understanding of global warming is that it has changed its meaning...now it mean more extreme temperatures - hotter summers and colder winters

They are calling for more for my area Tomorrow & Wednesday (Now it has snowed at least once a week for the past 5 weeks. Ugh.)

& Your understanding of the global climate shift is correct, and believe me, I totally buy it!

I'm feeling guilty because the sun has been out for the past couple of days... But the sun is deceptive this time of year... It def. is not warm out and the melt off just turns everything into a slippy slide at night and you have to watch out for black ice which is kinda redundant because you can't see it

I live in Washington and it's sunny outside.  I'd gladly fling some sun over there to the midwest.  Especially, the people in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio, since I'm heading over there on Friday.

Well frozen hellhole might be fun for a few days, as long as it wasn't long term.  I love going and playing in the snow, so long as I can leave it behind when I'm bored with it.  It's like going to Vegas in June like I did this year, not frozen, but a more burning hellhole is hard to imagine.  107 during the day and all that, and outside the hotels Vegas is a real hellhole, a total dump, yucck.  But a week there was nice so long as I got to come back to where it was nice and perfect.

It's going to be high 60s/low 70s today, clear and sunny, we've had lots of rain so the hills are green and not golden (that's brown for people who don't live here), and that's always the pretty time of the year.

Why would you want to come to this frozen hellhole? I would stay out there where it is warm.

Quite simply, I have some good friends there that I'm going to visit and have a great time with.  That's why I'm going out there.  Not only that, I promised someone I'd see their first wrestling match, and that's why I'm going.
