Title: Ace bandage and gym locker room.
Post by: Devyn on January 15, 2011, 12:22:46 PM
The first semester of this school year just ended, and after finals, I have to take Gym. Weight training - I signed up for that class specifically to gain muscle. So, hopefully it works.  :D

My problem is changing in the girls' locker room.  :-\

Nobody knows I bind, and even if they did, it would still be weird to take my shirt off in front of a bunch of girls, you know? So either, I wear a bra and don't bind for the rest of the school year - which I would probably not be able to handle and it would stretch out all of my shirts.

I could always go into one of the bathroom stalls that they have in the locker rooms, but we don't always have the time for that and sometimes girls take up all the stalls.

I could wear like, a tank top over my binding, which would hide the ace bandage but my chest is still noticeably flat and my friend, who planned to take this class with me and has seen my boobs and doesn't know I bind, would possibly notice.

>< I don't know what I should do.

Get a proper binder and it is just an undershirt to the casual observer.
Those ace bandages not only give you away they look like crap. Also many a transman has hurt himself with ace bandages.

Yeah, get a proper binder if you can.

Or just dress in the stalls in the locker room.  It won't be weird, because not everybody just wants to strip in front of everyone else.

It's already been said, but proper binders = better.
If your parents are an issue, maybe you could go for something like the tri-top? It looks like it could be passed off as a sports bra. I've heard good things about the frog bra, too. It's designed for women, but apparently works as a decent binder for some.

And if your friend notices... It might just be me, but it doesn't seem like something that a friend would comment on. ("Oh hel- WHERE DID YOUR BOOBS GO?!", y'know? xD)

Hey Dylan, I had left you a message in your other thread about binding, if you go here http://ftm.underworks.com/ (http://ftm.underworks.com/) it'll tell you how to measure you're size of binder.

I've got a medium that I ordered when I was still adjusting to a small but I'm good with smalls so I never bothered opening the medium

If you're a medium (or close to it) I could send you this one for free probably. It would be better to have one a bit bigger for working out so you don't hurt yourself

If not, pick up a cheap tight sports bra and wear a baggy shirt? maybe layer with a "wife beater" style undershirt.

You could also try the big brother binder program.  I can't imagine lifting weights in an ace bandage. :/

lesloveboat has binders that look more like sports bras as opposed to underworks, and people say they're more comfy than underworks too so they'd probably be better for working out in. if you have the money for it that is.

if not... then you can probably wear a tanktop to wear to hide the bandages and just change quickly with your chest facing away from your friend, i don't think she would think anything weird of that

girls are not casual observers. The ones I had in gym class would tell you who wore what bra last week Tuesday. I hated that about teen girls. Get a life was and is my thought on them.

wear your gym clothes under your regular clothes. I have a few friends who do that. If you aren't willing to do that, you could get a proper binder like everyone said. Sorry that I'm not much help. =]

Well, I kind of can't get a proper binder at the moment, so wearing my gym clothes under my regular clothes would work. (Hopefully I don't get sweaty and stink though.) In that case, I'll just bring some Axe and deodorant. Lol.

I would talk to the school nurse and explain your situation ... I know at my kids schools they get to change in the nurses office before gym class and then get a pass into class if they run late ... one of the kids just said it was a personal medical reason and everyone seemed okay with it.

Do you get to pick your time for classes?  Could you take it 1st hour and come to class already in your gym clothes?
