Title: Wow. Shocked.

Okay I just had the most bizarre experience at the grocery store. Just as a preface, I am not on hormones yet, I was not wearing any makeup, just dressed in a fleece pullover and jeans. My hair is just about down to my jawline. My face was clean shaven and is fairly beard free but not completely as I have been doing laser but I am not done yet.
So I get to the checkout and the cashier who is a middle aged woman with a British accent, ma'ams me. So I don't say anything and hand her my discount card, thinking oh she will correct herself once she looks closer at me. She then "Is plastic okay ma'am". So I nod yes. She goes on and ma'ams me three more times through the rest of the transaction. I left the store completely floored.
Either she has poor eye-site or I look more feminine than I think.

Yes that can happen. The hair helps, but I think there is a change in our manner that people also read as more feminine. Congratulations!

I had several incidents like this happen to me. A few were when I was with guys from work at a restaurant. The best one was when I went to a job start up meeting at the general contractor's office. We had to wait for the conference room to open so I figured I would use the bathroom. I asked the receptionist for the key. She handed it to me and just as I was walking out into the hallway she stopped me.
"I think I gave you the wrong key."
I figured she gave me the ladies key then realized she made a mistake. After handing me the "correct" key she directed me to the bathroom. I followed her instructions and arrived at the women's bathroom. Thinking I hadn't walked far enough down the hallway I kept walking. There was no other bathroom. The men's was in another hallway.

This had always happened to me before hormones. One experience was similar to Julies, last fall I walked into the mens bathroom(wearing mens clothing) on my way to class and the janitor screamed out to me "WAIT! Thats the mens room, Miss!!!!!!" . I promptly asked him where the ladies room was

That's GREAT news! Awesome! We're very happy for you!
Tell you what: Count your blessings!
Like, I'm on HRT for 1 year and 1 month and I have yet to be called Ma'am ... not even remotely close to being called Ma'am ... that just ain't gonna happen. Doesn't matter, really. HRT is making me feel awesome! THAT'S what really matters. Going through a second adolescence (Oh, am I!) is a blast ... especially at my age.
To you young and pretty ones out there: ENJOY IT!
;) Lacey

I generally get miss and love now from women and men, although I do occasionally still get the odd mate from men, the last of which happened on monday which was inspite of me being blinged to the max, dressed all in red inc. my super cool red leather handbag and a little extra make upthan what I'd normally wear and my big hoopy earrings too...

I had an expierince where I was at a casino dressed normally jeans,t shirt hair in a ponytail i thought I was just looking like some guy with a pontail. Well I went to the men's restroom and there was this attendant in there picking up he saw me then left a few minutes go by then this security guy comes in looks around looks straight at me sees me peeing then leaves. Although they didnt say it I knew they thought there was girl using the men's restroom.

It's nice when that happens, especially before you're actually fully socially transitioned.
Tho I am now fully socially transitioned, I'm a skater and skater garb is pretty andro so I do kind of expect to get percieved as male on occasion...so it was really nice when heading back home the other week that as i wlked up behind a family...the youngest child turns round and says to their dad "There's a lady behind us...I think we need to get out of the way". Given that I'd just had a tumble this cheered me up no end.

Quote from: Helena on February 19, 2011, 04:57:17 PMI'm not on HRT yet, and I was dressed in guy clothes, and not sorta-androgynous guy clothes either, but really, really masculine-looking wear, hadn't shaved that day and stuff. So there I was, in the security checkpoint at the Berlin-Schönefeld airport, and this being Germany the security checkpoint is rather more strict than I'm used to, so I just dump my stuff on the band and waltz on toward the metal detector, but the guy there stops me - "Madame? Madame, I'm sorry, you have step back." And they kept calling me "madame" throughout the entire procedure. And they were kinda brusque, but that still totally made my day :D .
It's nice when that happens, especially before you're actually fully socially transitioned.
Ok, so it actually made my week ;D .
Then I started wondering if they were just being sarcastic, but these were professionals, so I kinda doubt that.

Yeah, the first time is kind of cool but even after 3 years and fully transitioned it still thrills me. Its so great to be seen and accepted as female isn't it, WOWwwwwwwwwww.
