The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, said eight New Jersey companies were named to its annual list of U.S. businesses that best promote fair and equal policies for employees.

The survey results, known as "Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality," have been published for five years. In 2004, only 56 companies made the list. But by last year, more than half of the country's Fortune 500 companies offered equal benefits to employees' domestic partners while more than 80 percent have anti-discrimination policies relating to sexual orientation, the foundation said.
