Title: Do Jamaicans say "Hey mon" to women?

I'm really not sure if this the right place to ask this, but oh well.  I walked up to a store clerk today, and he said "Hey mon," which instantly made my day just because, well, it was a Jamaican saying "Hey mon."  Anyways, I'm trying to figure out if he read me as male.  Had it been someone saying "Hey man," I would take it that they had, but I'm not sure if they tend to use it more generally.  Any ideas?  If so, he will have made my day twice.

I think that it is "reserved" for men only.  I have not been to Jamaica, but I have been to the Bahamas.  And you get the same thing there.  From what I remember they would say something like "Hey Love" to the ladies.  But remember this is a couple of decades ago.

'Hey man' does tend toward men, with 'alright darling' being more women - though it's not completely set as far as I can see.
The North London variant is 'Hey Boss'.
