Title: No clue where to put this, sorry.
Post by: jacob.ayden.averi on February 03, 2011, 11:48:56 PM
So my girlfriend is looking at rings-we've been dating almost three years, so it's a real possibility-and crap.

Like. I'm a college student. I'm already broke. It's a nice ring though, I guess.

ahhhh gotcha. So I completely understand my girl and I have been together about the same time and it's a very real thing, I mean I know she's willing to wait for me to get my surgery bc I wanna marry my girlfriend as the man I am. but anyways, yeah so we've talked about rings and such, first off there are gorgeous rings out there, but they don't have to come from a tiffany's box. Try Zales. I am having a love affair with them. They are awesome. And you can choose your setting, diamond, and style to fit your taaste and budget, trust me my girl has done it tons of times.

Laurel definitely has expensive tastes. I can't blame her, she comes from a very rich family. She can literally spend seven hundred dollars on clothes at one time with no one caring. I'm just worried cuz I definitely don't come from a lot of money and I probably won't be making it either, so I don't know how I'll provide her with the life she's used to. And deserves.

I know it is man, but just try to set yourself up for a good career and just know that one day you'll give her the ring she deserves.

Hey man, when you get to that point, Stuller is a good site to check out.  Lots of jewelers order their stock from it.  Unfortunately, you can't check the price without a license, but you could have any jeweler look up the prices if you are interested.  They can also set any stone in the center.  Honestly, with Tiffany & Co, you're mostly paying for the name.

Off topic question, Why is this stickied?

On topic, local jewelry stores and a Tiffany's package?

Wait, this is stickied? Weird. And thanks Lee.
And sorry, I didn't know about the age thing!
It won't be for a while, me getting married. So I've got time to think about it. ^_^

To remind me to unsticky it after I did the Mod report.

Hell guys I'm polishing my nails. No consideration at all.

Local jewellers do great work, I know from an insurance claim that about 50-70% of the price is BS. My insurance company wouldn't pay the original valuation,

Oh well

She is a lucky girl.

Now where is the nail polish.

And I don't get diamonds from you for un -stickying the thread?

Oh no; Lord Kat will send them with grovelling apology.

Age post is purely to protect Susie's from "under age laws" we are obviously not a porno site but we are monitored randomly by regulatory bodies and as a support site we keep to strict rules.

Cindy (miffed and lonely) just doing my job, had a long week, it's so hot that the make up drips (nasty thought), my pizza hasn't arrived, it's Friday night and no one loves me. Mmm might lock it again just to be bitchy.

Take Care Guys.
Love You

Cindy

The old rule of thumb was that you were supposed to spend about months salary on the engagement ring.  On the down side that means you're not going to be marrying her till you're making over $100K a year.  On the plus side, you won't be married until you're making $100K a year.

Haha, this thread is far more amusing than one might at first be led to believe!

That ring...wow. :o And I'm not referring to how it looks...

To be honest, I never realized that engagement/wedding rings could be less than a grand until the girl I'm talking to linked me to some she liked and I started looking myself when bored (no, not really for our wedding). And here I was thinking $5-grand was expensive...man...

I agree though: buy locally, or at least not Tiffany-level. I have little doubt that somewhere you could find a ring very similar to that one and I'm sure she'd be just as happy -- if she wouldn't be, odds are she'd be with a guy who either already has money (family or whatever) or else is on a clear path into money.

any girl who thinks she needs a ring that costs that much is out of her mind.  spending that much on a wedding much less a ring is nuts.

Actually, weddings tend to be freakin' expensive. The average wedding anymore costs at least (and that is a low at least) twice as much as that ring. Unless you're going with something very, very basic, and not inviting many guests -- or eloping -- you should expect to pay out at least $20,000-$30,000 for a wedding anymore (and odds are it'll be closer to that latter figure).

Doesn't mean, however, that you should tack on another $10,000 on top of that...unless you want to, I suppose.

Hoooo nelly! That's one expensive ring! My girl's stand-in-engagement-ring-until-we're-not-broke ring is jade, and she loves it more than she would a diamond... Honestly though, even if she has expensive taste, if she loves you, she'll be happy with living a lifestyle that you can afford.

There's all these random replies here, hehe. It's kinda cool though. But yeah, Laurel showed me this other ring that was over two million and I was like sorry babe...no. Love you, but no.

I would love to get married someday but I never really envisioned it. I knew that my ring would be nowhere near that flashy. I like the solid band and that's it. you don't really need anything else. I talked to my girlfriend and she's not picky (which is good to know just in case :D). She told me that she would love any ring that she was given (granted that it wasn't trashy).

A ring that costs that much better have the freakin' Hope Diamond on it or something! Holy...

Of course, the Hope Diamond is supposed to be cursed as well, so, sort of a mixed message there considering the sort of rings...or is it...? :eusa_think:

There is a ring also by tiffany's that is over 10 million. My sister says that is the only one she will accept haha.

That's certainly one way to guarantee never getting married, haha!

As if I weren't struggling as it were trying to figure out what sort of ring would sell for $2-million...but $10-million? Man...rings like that alone require their own prenup.

Though, curiosity drove me to check and, really not surprisingly, a diamond even similar to the Hope Diamond wouldn't be on either ring. Way more expensive than $10-million.

Man, if I had a piece of jewelry that cost half that much I'd be too paranoid to wear it! Could you imagine if it fell off? Got lost? Stolen? Oh mah gawd!

I just can't wrap my head around why... we could buy so much cooler stuff with that much money!

But then again, I'm not really the marryin' type.

Ok...so I hate to be "that guy" but, if you are looking at getting diamonds please make sure they are "non-conflict". I would do some research on what companies use certified non-conflict diamonds if you are set on that stone.
Now that is out of the way...Tiffany is a prestigious brand so you would be paying for the name more than the design. You could have a one-of-a-kind ring made by an artisan for less than that and you can design it with your girl in mind.

Dude, don't hate to be "that guy": there's nothing wrong with being "that guy" and it's a very valid point to bring up. Our fellow man (speaking generally -- i.e. "our fellow humans", that's just awkward for me is all) needn't die and face warfare and terror just for something "pretty" and shiny.

Also, valid point as well about custom-made rings. What girl wouldn't want something like that?
