Title: HRT Working Out Question
Post by: QuestionMark on February 09, 2011, 11:31:50 PM

This might've been posted some where, so I apologize if it has been. Right now I am pretty skinny for a guy (26-27 waist, 5'7, 116 pounds). As of today I've come up with a pretty awesome workout plan. My question is if I started HRT today, what would happen to my body? I know HRT eliminates a lot of muscles, so would most of my workout be for nothing, or would there still be some noticable muscle growth?
Thank you!
Thank you!

I'm assuming you're heading MtF? What's your workout plan like? Do you know if you'll be taking androgen blockers? And do you mind sharing your age? But even without knowing that, women's muscles grow just fine from working out, so whatever you're doing will probably not be wasted. You'll want to keep an eye on your body-fat percentage, though.

Ya, I would be going MtF
Workout plan would be pretty much like this http://www.nowloss.com/perfect-body-workout-diet-plan-for-women-to-lose-weight-tone-up.htm#workouts-to-get-perfect-body (http://www.nowloss.com/perfect-body-workout-diet-plan-for-women-to-lose-weight-tone-up.htm#workouts-to-get-perfect-body)
I am 19 going on to 20 in March, but I probably won't be taking HRT until I'm like 21 or 22, and yes I'd probably take those blockers.
Thanks for the info!

It'll definitely take longer to build up muscle on HRT, and it seems to go away a lot faster, too. During the spring and fall I bike about 120 miles a week, and pre-HRT some of the muscle build-up would last through the winter, but on HRT I'd lose most of it in about a month. It also takes longer to build up endurance - maybe twice as long.
That's not to say you can't build muscle while on HRT; it is just no where near as easy.

i have wondered something of the same thing. From what I understand, after being on hormones for a while and spiro, he told me that my body is chemically that of GG, so basically any changes that take place from excercise will make changes in female fashioon,,,,i just woke up so im prolly not cccommunicating clearly

Okay, I'm not an expert, so I firmly stand by none of what I'm about to say. I'm guessing that you might be like me in that you have a hard time keeping your fat-weight up – I'm 5'5" and I didn't get above 100 lbs until I was almost 20. And, coincidentally, I was about your age when I started working out to gain weight. I also started estrogen around the same age you're planning to. So, again, I'm not an expert, but I can share some of my experiences and maybe they'll be somewhat helpful.
You'll probably want to watch out for exercises that build muscle bulk until you start anti-androgens. What little bulk I did gain didn't last long after I started HRT, but that could also be due to the fact that I pretty much stopped working out. ^_^;; Be especially cautious of bulking up your trapezius muscles (http://www.garagescapes.com/trapezius.jpg), where your neck and shoulders meet. Trapezii like this (http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/trapscc.jpg) are neither flattering nor easy to hide. Another thing it'd be good to keep in mind is, as I said before, body fat. Too little body fat and no bewbies for you. I was around 110 by the time I started HRT and was quite lean, but I still got up to an A cup more or less (more less than more). It has since increased to a B as I've slowly lost my superhuman ability not to gain weight. How that works out for you, however, will be pretty specific to your body. And as for strength, I didn't notice any big difference in how quickly it dropped off compared to the other times I'd given up my workout routine. Nor have I noticed a big difference in my strength when out of shape. You will not be suddenly unable to open heavy doors by yourself. ::) I hope some of this is helpful.

TYVM for the answer, and don't worry if your wrong about any of this either. I'd rather get a guesstimate rather then no response at all! The muscles I'm really trying to work out are around my hips, thighs, butt, chest and legs. I want to hit around 125- 130 pounds, as that's a pretty decent weight. I agree that I don't want to build my trapezius muscles! I know that Estrogen helps with the whole fat distribution thing, which is why I'm sort of curious if I would get a pretty good females butt after doing this as compared to a more manly butt!
Anways thanks for most of myquestions being answered
