Title: How much did HRT effect your face?

Is there anyone who feels that there face wasn't passable pre-hormones, but after a while on hormones it became passable? my profile is slightly masculine and i'm not sure if hrt will help at all. It's just my forehead area is a little 'rough' looking. I'm hoping HRT can soften this out. Everyone seems to say that HRT changed their face quite a bit. SO I just wanted some opinions.
I'm 19, been on HRT for about 5 months.

ps. With fringe/bangs my face is completely passable, but i'd like to have the option of other styles. Maybe FFS is necessary for that?

It may be? Hair goes a long way toward framing the face however you wish though. YES, HRT effects the face...much. Have you seen any HRT progression videos on YT? Very inspiring. The face is the most obvious change. You may be not noticing your changes as much due to it being you, and you see yourself everyday :)

Hi,
My face changed a lot with fat distribution but it will not change the bone structure that has already grown unless you are in your early teens. After puberty there will not be any change with the bones. If you bone structure is more endogenous then you will have good results.

Can't change your bones if that's what you mean if it's a boney brow bossing you gotta live with it or get FFS you sound like your in the same boat as me :/ I have a fringe out of nessecity not really stylistic choice.

My face has changed a little bit. My skin seems different. I think I look younger too. There are ciswomen who have more masculine brows and jaw lines and are still quite beautiful.

what exactly do you mean by 'rough' that is both highly descriptive and totaly nondescript way to describe your forehead.
Anyway, I've seen pictures of you hun and you look fantastic.

Thank you all for your input :) ...And Helena, by rough I mean it just looks kind of masculine and rugged? like sharp. It doesn't look soft. I'm hoping with some fat redistribution/skin softening that maybe someday I can wear my hair up etc. without having to worry about my profile? From straight on it's fine, but from the side the profile is slightly masculine. I still don't even know if it DOESN'T pass from the side, but I don't think it does. The thought of having to wear bangs/fringe until I can afford FFS is scary :( ... especially cause I don't even know how much FFS will be. Anyone know how much it costs to take care of minor brow bossing in California??? LOL :)

Chances are you may be over emphasising features...there are days when I thing I have the eyebrows of a neanderthal, but when you look at me in profile that's patently not the case. If you're feeling brave try posting a profile shot.

Walk past a crowd of teenagers or young children, you will know if you look female or not after that.
They tell the truth so beautifully, lol. I call it the TC test of passing, lol. Scares the pants off you at first but walk up and down, look at them, smile and carry on. Seriously though it is one way to find out and also there is a wide range even within the female spectrum. Unfortunately the media only seem to give certain examples of female beauty, that's why cosmetic surgery is big business with CIS gendered making up the largest majority who have that kind of surgery. So join the club of female insecurity, its part of being female, lol.

No...It's mainly bone structure...there's been a bit of filling out of my cheeks and my skin looks a bit more radient, but thats about it for the effects of hrt on my face.
The main point is that i have actually wasted far more time than i should have, poking and prodding my face telling myself it's far too masculine. It's easy to see the male, because essentially we've conditioned ourselves to. A lot of the time it's a really good idea not to focus on details and take in the whole.

HRT mainly helps with skin texture and subcutaneous fat, mostly in the cheeks and around the jaw (which can affect the visual appearance pretty significantly). It also reduces the size of the muscles around the jaw and eyebrows and *seems* to make the eyes appear rounder (even though it hasn't been documented). For a lot of people these things can help immensely, but to get rid of any masculine bone structure you need the $$$s for FFS.
I'd be surprised if your profile is worse than mine, hehe. Just about zero brow ridge (or bossing or whatever it's called), but my forehead itself protrudes a lot so that my eyes get shadowed hardcore in overhead lighting. It's a very masculinizing effect and I'm having FFS in (tentatively) June to get rid of it. And then promptly going full-time :P
Mine is viewable @ page 26 of the MTF passing thread here. (https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,90021.msg664467.html#msg664467)

I have, lol, I can't believe it either. At the beginning another trans girl said I shouldn't transition because she felt I would never pass. Well thank heaven for estrogen, lol. I've also lost a 14lbs in weight as well which has helped but my face looks 10 years younger and people I meet that are new to me think I'm in my early forties when in reality I'm 52.

Your profile looks really similar to mine. I'll admit that I laughed a bit at the overhead lighting comment, because it's the exact same thing in my case. My surgery plans are similar to yours for the time-being.

I'm proof of how much HRT can change a face or rather how a lot of small changes add up for a dramatic effect. I have a pre-transition picture around here somewhere in Just for Us but I'd be willing to bring one out if you can't get there.

Men are just as insecure, they're just not allowed to voice it. Women can voice their insecurities and speak up about them and it won't hurt her chances of finding a man. Men, however, can't voice their insecurities and speak up about them without it significantly hurting their chances of finding a woman. Any man who speaks up about his insecurities is perceived as "lacking confidence," and we all know women love men who are confident; hence, male stoicism and the falsely perceived male inability to communicate. Men spend thousands of dollars (individually, not collectively) on gym memberships, personal trainers, weight lifting supplements--some men even get pec implants. Some men use steroids to achieve Hollywood standards of male attractiveness. In fact, steroid use is on the rise, last I heard. Steroids are far more dangerous than getting a boob job or any other form of female cosmetic surgery. The difference is, our culture laughs at men who express insecurities about their receding hairlines or having a small penis. Our culture shows empathy and concern when women express insecurities about their boob size or not being pretty enough. So, the same is happening to men, it's just not talked about as much.

I would agree that its the younger generation that is more open, my generation of men don't and would bolt at the need for a manicure or eyebrow pluck. Well at least here in the UK. Also we can't generalise as it is set within the culture in which we live, for example men in say Afghanistan or Inuit have a different out look on this than say men from the USA or the UK.

To get back on the subject of face changes, what I read here, I am probably twice your ages. I did notice changes in my face after the third month now on HRT. Softer wrinkle lines, lighter skin tone, thinner beard. My beard cuttings used to fall from the electric shaver into the waste can making tinkling noises on the stiff plastic grocery sack lining. No noise now and the clippings now looks like fine lint in the shaver and floats like down in lint balls now.
I may not get the passable faces you younger girls have due to my age. As a biological female feminizing instructor I read up on the past 2 years says "Age is a cruel masculinizer, even for women".
Men of different cultures have different views on ->-bleeped-<-. I found out from a speaker on Crescent Mounds at a science club meeting a few months ago that the pre-Columbian Native Americans had the fat crescent Moon as the symbol for woman or bears. The bear does have a crescent shape when they are on all fours and the head down during feeding on the ground. A slide showed this. A bear is considered female and fertile due to observations of bear sows going into the den in the fall and emerging in the spring with their spry cubs. The Crescent Mounds here in North America are widespread, star aligned, and all of the cultures at least knew of this. The tribal shamans were considered female even if they were male. The speaker did mention the word"transgender" in this vein.
This talk tied in what my therapist gave me to read back in the late 70's during my fist attempt of transitioning. It said that if a boy in the Native American or the central asian Kirgiz tribe wanted to be a woman, it was allowable, even welcomed. This decision was made only once and they had to live as the other women do, even marry. They took certain herbs to feminize themselves, which later to found to have phyto-estrogens in them. This was observed and noted by some of the first European explorers and fur trappers of the fair-face female looking "Squaw men". Western expansion, smallpox, and Jack Daniels erased a lot of memory of that culture.
