I could have just went from Michael to Michelle, but I wanted my female name to be different. I work on circuit boards, which have what are known as etches, foils, or traces. Etchey and Foiley weren't to my liking, so I chose Tracey. Anyone else want to share the reason behind their name? Hugs, Tracey

I have been trying to figure this out for a long time now but nothing good has come up as of yet. It's kind of hard coming up with a fem name for Steele (and yes that is my real name).
Shale maybe? I dont know.

When i joined susans i was trying to think of a name and that song from flashdance came to mind - "i am riven" is a lyric in that song, and riven is defined as "to become rent or split apart" which I thought described me pretty well as an androgyne/bigender person. Riven was already taken so i became Riven1. It's sufficed for a few years, but my girl side is now demanding a feminine name so we've been working on finding her one. When we settle on one i'll probably change my name on the board too.

I am still trying to figure out mine....I might stick with my name since it's gender neutral ... definitely will change my middle name ....it's Marie ... might change it to Scott - that's the name my wife wanted to name a son if she had one (Not our son transitioned this last year and he picked the name before he even told us)

I used to use "Donna Alvolte" which roughly translates from Italian to English as "lady at times." I figured this was appropriate because, at that time, I didn't identify as an MtF; I identified as an androgyne/cross-dresser. Since I had a femme appearance only sometimes, I felt that I was a lady sometimes, hence Donna Alvolte.

I chose a name that I've always liked. It makes me think of someone with a certain set of features, who knows why. I now look like my mental image of my name, if that makes any sense.

I asked my mother a long time ago what she would name me had I been a girl she unhelpfully told me my little sisters name who was born after me ¬.¬ Logical but annoying.
Prying further made her extremely suspicious.

When I was a Kid I gave myself the "secret" name 'Amy' however now an adult I don't like it so much not enough... Letters...
The feminization of my male name was horrible

My inablity to decide was actually impairing my transition as I needed to change my name.

When I came out to my mum she outright refused to name me and moreover refused to acknowlege any name I picked and insisted my name was my old male name.

I asked my sister... She suggested.
"Booberella"
"Fishyface"
Shes 22 years old you'd have thought she was 8. lol

I asked my dad and he did actually make suggestions
Helen, Cathrine, Mari, Jane.

Helen... I know 6 helens already
Jane... Blech no. (plus Electrologist Jane would be FURIOUS)
Mari... While exotic and possibly fun... no I toyed with it abit.
Cathrine... I guess I could live with that.

I suggested Cathrine it to my friends none of them liked it.
"Ugh your joking right? There are so many transgender Cathrines already."
"It dosen't sound like you. Well I mean... if your set on it... I guess but... mmm..."
"really? Months of thinking about it and that's what you came up with?"
And other such answers.

I asked them then "alright what names do you suggest?"
They all made various suggestions some more common than others. "imogen" came out alot although I hate the name blech... But one name came out of everyone who I asked.
"Alice"

after the 6th person said it. I responced with "Alice eh? Yep good enough."
Alot of other pepole tell me it suits me, only one person has disagreed I responded with.
"You missed the vote."

At one time I had been thinking about Casparia.  It is my maternal Grandmother's name.  It would have been a spooky kind of thing.  At least to me. 

You see I look like my Mom, who looks like My Grandmother.  Ere go I look like my Grandmother.   But the part that is scary is that I am adopted.

I chose Jessica back at the end of high school because I thought it was just THE most feminine and pretty sounding name. The Jessicas that I knew were all gorgeous and really sweet and that's what I had hoped to emulate in my feminine side.

Years later I chose De Leon as my pen / stage surname due to the fact that it is my grandmother's maiden name.

I chose mine, as the girl's name I would have been named by my mum had already gone to my niece... I quite liked Emma as well. >:(

Well I've known for years what I would have been called had I been born female (that hurt a fair bit), which was Arwen Eleanor, but try as I did, I cou;dn't imagine myself as and Arwen...it just didn't fit. I've used a neutral version of my birth name for all my life apart from when I was at bording school...Jamie obviously fits as a name, but at the same time keeping it would have felt weird as it was my male name. In the end my name chose me, some friends told me that they'd already started thinking of me as helen (lord alone knows why) and I settled on Helena because it just fitted and felt comfortable (it also sounded a bit like Eleanor which would have been my middle name). I ended ip keeping a more feminised spelling of the gender neutral version of my first name as my second middle name (I nearly didn't as a massive two fingered salute at my parents who had seriously pissed me off at the time) and also picked another middle name just because I liked the sound of it...it's japanese.

On reflection I could have happily been an eleanor, with arwen as a middle name, which might have mollified my parents a bit...but it's too late for that and I can't imagine not being Helena now because it is my name...and I have the legal documentation to prove it. :laugh:

I use to use my sister's name which was Lois and thanks to my sister, I tried on her panties  :). So, over time I discovered my femme side. Later in life when I was able to dress more and got on the internet I decided to use my wife's name Jean. In any case I enjoy being Jean  :).

I was trying to think of something original but nothing came to mind.  So I chose a name off a video game I play and thats how Salina came to be.  Not original, but I like it.

I chose Noah because at the time I was obsessed with Glee, and Noah Puckerman came to mind. Since the character goes by "Puck" I figured that people wouldn't immediately make the connection. Not as quickly as Finn at least, which would've been my choice if Noah didn't fit me so well.

My middle name is harder, and I've been struggling with it for a long time...I was going to pick Robert since that was my dad's name, but then I realized that I also had a brother, grandfather, and greatgrandfather with that name, so that was overkill...Not only that, but Noah Robert sounds ghastly together.
Then I picked Levi, since it was on a liscense plate on the way back from the therapy appointment where I was told I was likely to get hormones. But it never latched on...
I think I've finally decided to go with Henry. It's always been a name I loved, and every time I hear it I smile. It's just one of those names...

i seem to have settled on laura, i knew a girl growing up who i always wanted to be like by that name, and its the most femanine name i could think of. it just seemed to fit :)

By a happy "coincidence", the Buddhist name that's been my legal name for the last 14 years is gender-non-specific (it's all in how you pronounce the ending). But the first half, which is how I usually introduce myself to people who can't cope with all 5 weird syllables, is Padma (which means "lotus"). Close enough to Luke Skywalker's mum's name for people to get their heads round it ;D - I guess I'll stick with that, less paperwork!

It actually (and carefully) never occurred to me until recently that one reason I was so eager to change my name legally when I got given the new one was that it was less obviously male.

So I finally settled on Terra meaning earth. It was the closest girl name to Steele I could think of. 

You could go for Ferra (which would be close to iron, if not Steele ;)) - but Terra's a great name. Said with a US accent people might think it's Tara, though - but then that's also a lovely name.

I tried using Glennda, Glenna, ect. But it just never was right I talked to some people at a group I went to for the first
time Dressed, and they said oh try a name of an old girlfriend, some girl you might work with, I could not come up with that worked for me. Then as I was driving home from the group meeting that night I was listening to a Faith Hill CD and I thought gee
I kind of like that name. It also plays into another aspect of my story which is for another time

Picking out my name came to me rather easily. I have always liked the name Brenda and Lynn, since I have no Brenda's or Lynn's in my family I chose this name, since I liked both names so much, I decided to combine them together for something different, after all I am something different and I love it.
