Title: MTF HRT: Shrinking shoe size????

I've been on HRT for 6 months now, and my shoe size has gone from a woman's size 9 to a size 8 (US Size). I read of the same thing happening in another thread here. Anyone else have a similar experience?
???
I will say that I LOVE expanded selection available to me now.

Gabrielle_Nicole said that HRT altered the arch of her feet, and she lost a shoe size.

My that would be my dream come true. My feet are way too long, size 12 mens (US). I will never find shoes without special ordering them, and of course the selection of the ones you can special order will be dismal, and well I love shoes. :(

I've gone from a UK9 to a UK8 and sometimes a UK7 depending on the shoe albeit they may be a little tight but for cuteness I will endure :)

Yep, it happens, I went from a UK 8 to UK 7 and I also lost hight from 5ft 7inch to 5ft 5 1/2 inches. That too can happen.

I've lost 1 inch in height, so far as well. I've heard of both these things happening sometimes with others, but it really is amazing when you get to experience it yourself. Simply incredible. :icon_dance: :icon_joy:
Now I have an excuse to buy more shoes... :D

Yes. I wore a 10.5 in mens my whole life. When I transitioned I started with 12/13 shoes.
Nowadays an 11 is too lon gand a 10 is too tight around the toes....so I'm around a 10W

How does HRT make you loose length? I can understand width. How does it make you lose height?

Man I wish I could lose some height.
I'm 6ft 3in... I wouldn't mind just being 6ft
Maybe I should get started on HRT already! ;D

OhBoy! now I can't wait for my feet to shrink. Even if it is just the width that would be great. And my hgt. I have always been 5' 9 1/2". But then as one grows into their senior years they tend to lose a bit of height.

Good question. I can only speak for myself, as I'm sure with all things, your bodies response to HRT depends a lot on your genetics, but I've lost a good bit of muscle mass and a few pounds since starting HRT. I used to be more on the muscular side for a guy, and the loss of muscle is one of the first things to go. I also do more cardio now than ever as well.

hard to tell, i've always had pretty tiny feet (uk7 and occasionally six depending on brand) there seems to be a bit more space for me to wiggle my tootsies in, but like i said, quite hard to tell

I read a theory that as MTF HRT leads to a loss of muscle mass, the muscles in the spine will shrink. As they shrink the space between discs reduces and we grow shorter.
By no means am I an expert but it sounds plausible to me.
Now I have "I Have A Thory" from Buffy - Once More With Feeling stuck in my head.
BUNNIES AREN'T JUST CUTE LIKE EVERYBODY SUPPOSES... And what's with all the carrots, what do they need such good eyesight for anyway. Bunnies. BUNNIES. IT MUST BE BUNNIES, or maybe midgets.

Yep, Caitlin, that's the theory, I've know others besides my self that have height loss. It does seem plausible. I had to be checked for osteoporosis as I'd lost 1 1/2 inches in height since starting HRT but everything was fine and the doctor put it down to that theory on HRT. So its great to see things assuming the female build, lol.

Absolutely, a good half shoe size. Pre HRT I wore a woman's 10 1/2-11. A year plus on my medication and I wear 10's all day long, about the right proportion for a 5' 10" 146 pound bean pole like me. I'm convinced shoes are designed around a size 6-7 foot, but it is sooo much easier to find something cute in the clearance rack at Kohls these days!

Wait, HRT alters the arch? Cause I have high arches, and one of my bones on my right foot is slightly shifted to the left, and sometimes when I walk my foot hurts a lot. So, would this make my situation worse?

I bought shoes recently, and while I bought size 10s as always, I noticed they were a bit roomier than they used to be. I might be closer to a 9.5 now or between sizes.

the loss of foot length and height is usually do to the fact that after you start hrt the cartilage in your body gets reduced, therefore the cartilage that makes up part of the discs in your spine become thinner, and for your feet, all the joints in you your feet are coated with cartilage that thins out in small fractions which reduces the spaces between your joints, therefore reducing your overall foot length

I recently purchased a new set of men's gym shoes, still not out to the world, but I had to buy a size 9.5 instead of my usual 10. I also went to the women's section, and tried on some shoes, managed to fit into a size 11 gym shoe but couldn't fit into the size 11 wedge( :'( they were so cute) so I'm guessing that I need a size 11 Wide in women's now. I place the size change on my feet to my weight loss, but I suppose it could be partially caused by HRT.
The weight loss is another 7Lbs in the last week. I started my weight loss at 307Lbs or so, and hit a plateau of 273-275Lbs, today I am a smidge over 266Lbs. ;D :D

I voted no, but let me explain.
The length on my feet are the same, but the width has decreased about one size. This may be due to weight loss more than Estrogen.
Shoe sizes vary with the design of the shoe. My feet measure a size 14C on the women's shoe measuring device. When I shop, I can wear size 12 or 13 for sandals and for athletic shoes a size 14 is a tight fit. Shoe sizes vary with the manufacturer and their quality control procedures. Does your shoe maker have a consistent product or is there a variation within any given size?

Many of my sandals, shoes and boots I bought over a year ago, are now too large for my feet. It's bitter sweet of course.
I end up giving some of my favorites away to friends with bigger feet. :(
But yay! I can fit a smaller size, which is always an advantage when shopping for women's shoes! :)
I think it is mostly due to muscle loss.

Your feet shrink?? Is that a real thing? I've been on hrt for 2 years and my feet got a little bit bigger. I wore a size 5 1/2 . Then after a year on hrt I started wearing a 6. I still can fit into a 5 1/2 but its tight and not comfortable like it was.

Size 6?!? Wow! (I hope you're not unhappy with that size)
It sounds like you were already small in stature to begin with. I'd guess you probably didn't have much muscle tissue to loose, and in fact probably gained some "female" type weight with your transition.
I'm 6'-1" and fit women's size 12-13 boots before HRT. I'm finding that I can fit 11s now and my 12s are too loose. But I also had more muscle on my body that made my frame larger.
Just for reference, I also started with a 36-38 inch bra size. I am now down to 34, so my whole frame has shrunk.

This thread has me excited! I have the hardest time finding shoes off the rack in Size 12 (US). In male shoes I am a 10. With the "rule of thumb" for shoe conversion, that puts me at a size 11.5 for women, which I've never seen. Size 11 comes out too small and that leaves me looking for Size 12. A reduction of even half a size could open up Size 11 and there are a lot more stores that sell Size 11. That would be a game changer for me.
I've been on HRT for 18 months, but at lower dosages. I've just had my dosages increased and am hopeful that this is one of the things I might have to look forward to!

I'm a women's US size 10 shoe and i remain that size. I feel very fortunate with that. It is possible i have lost a half size and definitely i have thinner feet. They look more "feminine" too, so there was definitely some thinning out.

I think my feet may have shrinked a bit but when I was younger, my mom used to buy me oversized shoes maybe hoping I would grow more. However, didn't happen and I remaimed petite. I thought I could only fit 8.5 in women shoes but I actually found out the other day I fit many shoes size 7.5 and 8. So I can't complain

Unless my bones shrink I don't understand how unless you are losing muscle on the feet which makes shoes fit better maybe?
I really hope it does happen as I take a UK size 10 and impossible to get girls trainers in my size

I haven't noticed a size change in my feet. It just depends on what type of shoe I'm trying on. One brand and type I wear a size 9 (US women) and another I wear a size 10. I just think it strange that I also wear the same size in men's shoes.

I did not vote as I have only been on HRT for 10 weeks. I was out shopping for pants with my wife tonight and I told her I wanted to measure my feet while at the store because my shoes felt huge. She has been buying my shoes online for years so she was as amazed as I was to see that I had dropped an entire shoe size (from 9.5 mens to 8.5 mens). I am really glad because that puts me at a 9.5 womens :D
