Title: Told my best friend
Post by: zoeinmotion on February 22, 2011, 12:37:32 PM
Told my best friend about me yesterday, had been avoiding him... Sent him an email, followed by a 2 hour conversation. His initial response was "Are you serious? I mean, I'll still be your friend if you are. But you never seemed transgendered to me." He had a hard time believing it, and was in shock, but respectful. A lot of questions. towards the end the conversation turned away from me and back onto topics we would normally talk about. I think it went pretty well.

I feel freed in so many ways today.

My two best friends were the first people I told as well.  It kinda takes some of em' by surprise, while others may have seen it.  My male best friend didn't see it coming, but my female best friend said she knew all along.  Guess it's in observations.

I'm happy for you!  And yes, it can be a real relief. Although in the end it is YOUR journey I think it's beautiful that you cared enough to at least let him know what you were going through. I had the same issues too. People saw me more as the Alpha male...shaved head etc...but it was really my way of masking my true self.  Now, I am so relieved that I have told most of my friends about this and they support me as well. Transitioning is not only for you but for the ones you love as well. In the end it can make a huge difference.
Best to you!
