Long story.. Need some help. I've been communicating on line with a woman for about 6 months who believes i am a biological male. Now, she's been pressing me to call her.  I sound female, and have been trying hard to develop a voice over the last few weeks, but not good enough. I've been reading that "resonance" vs. "pitch" is the real key.

Can anyone offer any tips on how to get this resonance, fast?  Don't know how much longer i can make excuses.

If I'm putting effort into my voice (to sound male) I find it help to have a downward inflection at the ends of your sentence and try not to change your tone much.  Also, I don't really know how to describe this, but put a bit of force into your voice at the beginning of sentences? Like you're scolding someone a little I guess.

There was a thread a while back about an exercise you could do, saying "bing bong, ding dong" or some such thing...it was on YouTube.....and, it WORKS! I actually scared myself using it (I'm a singer and very in-tune with my voice and how it feels). I learned how to drop my voice a lot using it. Maybe another guy who remembers better than I do can chime in on this one?

Search "Boom Your Voice" on Youtube to see what Andy's talking about. It really is a quick, but very temporary fix.

The video doesn't say how long it lasts, but I bet it could last a phone conversation in my experience. If it starts to wear off, you could always excuse yourself for a minute, put the phone on mute, and do it again. I would test it out beforehand to see how long it lasts for you.

If you practice that every day and really worked on it, is there a possibility that you can train your voice to be that low all the time?

And Nick z, i saw something that said your voice is the deepest when your completely relaxed, thats why its deepest when you first wake up. Also, it said that the vicks rub stuff relaxes your vocal chord, so maybe rub some on your chest a little before the call.

Don t worry ,if you can get past "hey how ya doin" you probably won t have to say much anyway lol. Try to find somthing that feels natural don t talk to fast let her talk about her,you dont have to sound like Barry White  ,girls love a good listener. lots of luck .

The bing bong ding dong thing works. Be sure to practice before calling her.

And nickikim is right, you probably just need to go " yeah... oh... I see" while she's talking all the time  ;D

And whatever you do dont answer the phone "Hey Baby " gag retch.:)

Is this someone you want to date or just want to be friends with. I'm a bit, etchy about not being open to a potential mate (horrid things can go wrong) but not all friends need to know the TMI.

But yeah, TL;DR - just saying should be open if you're talking with the idea of getting together.

Bloodleopard.. want to respond to you. I agree, not cool withholding information, but I have to get her to talk to me before I can see where this goes??  I hear ya, and appreciate the advice.

Your voice passes to me 100% It's a clear, nice, embracing voice. You could be narrator. Seriously. Try not to stress you too much, and remember to drink plenty of water :) Good luck!
