Susan's Place Transgender Resources

I have created the following peer groups.

• Androgyne
• Crossdresser
• FTM Transsexual
• Intersexual
• MTF Transsexual
• Non-TG
• Post-op
• and Significant others.

Please post a request as a reply to this thread or pm a staff member to get added to one or more applicable peer groups if you wish to be joined to them with the exception of the Significant other peer group they should post here, or pm Gill or an administrator. Staff members after adding the member to the peer group please remove their post from this forum.

New members will be given the option to pick a peer group when they register.

Right now they give no benefits but at a future date I am considering making a <peer group> forum as a child of the Just for us forum for each of these peer groups. This would allow discussion of sensitive issues similar to how the just for us forum currently works.

Forum staff will have access to each peer group and will be expected to move non-sensitive topics to the public forums. These private forums will not be replacements to the public forums just a addons to it.

Quick question: Are these groups, as identified on your profile, visible by all?
Well, by those who have enough posts to look at others' profiles, that is.

Not particularly paranoid but just curious.

I believe they will be visible on your profile but most will not appear on your posts. So it will require registration and 15 posts to see it. I am making most SO's as a primary to help them on the SO forum somewhat.

Susan, without really knowing what you have in mind and if it's possible to belong to more than one "peer group" do you think subcategorizing by age could be meaningful too? (ie: say under 40 vs 40+?) I know a lot of members don't post their age/birthday for whatever reasons but a more general indication of what I consider to be very different preoccupations and concerns would be kinda nice . . .

Achm, Boss just increased MOD workload LOL - I removed my original request per instructions ;D

So, we'll have own own separate sub-forums, exclusively our own, where hopefully perhaps certain terminology use will not become an "offensive" issue.

Susan, to "allow discussion of sensitive issues", that are peer group specific, but in the interest of not completely dividing the entire membership up can I assume all members will be able "to view" but only a peer group member will be allowed to actually post?

An admin "permissions" nightmare, I'll grant you that!

I still like to see an "age" grouping, maybe 3. Say Young (< 25), Mid life (25 => 45), Grey (45 up) or at least something that would more easily indicate such. Can be a problem to implement, I know, the "ranking" and title systems can do only so much. Constantly going out of way to "look who's talking". Are we really sensitive about our ages?

Hi Kiera. It is my understanding that the ages thing has been tried and it put minors at risk. Maybe develop a personal network of members around the same age. I don't know. For some reason, I seem to get on better with the 'greyer peeps', (I'm 29), so I really wouldn't welcome such a distinction.

Hi Seshatneferw hon, ok I found that part, but how does that get me into the group? Errr, Sorry but I am not that well computer savvy. Anyway thanks hon. I mean it's realy no big deal. Just wanted to see what it's all about and see if I could do something useful there.

The 'position' is the group, in the sense the word is used in computerese: a way to give some users access to something not open to everyone and not restricted on a per-user basis. As a member of the MtF group you get access to the MtF sub-forum of  the 'just for us' forum, which in turn is open to you as a member of the 'Family' group (or, in other words, because of your 'position' as Family and 'position2' as MtF).
