Title: Beginning HRT
Post by: danielleclark1987 on March 21, 2011, 11:41:41 AM
I have not begun HRT yet. I meet with my new therapist on April 7th for the first time. When might I expect to begin HRT, or is it solely based off of how an individuals sessions go?

That will be between you and your therapist.  You will at least need a few sessions with him/her for that person to get to know you and then he/she will evaluate whether they think you are ready for that step or not.  Forget about the "3 months" BS, it's just between you and your therapist when you both are ready for it.

That's what I was thinking. I also want to make sure that I'm completely ready to start hormones. Thanks!

Your Therapist will make sure you are ready.  Generally if you know what to expect from HRT, and that some things are not reversible.

Many will want to see you for at least three sessions.  But it is up to you ultimately.

My therapist is an odd mixture of, by the book and quirky.
She made me wait exactly 3 months.

All I've heard is "three months" but I'm not going to expect my therapist to say that. I mean, I'd really love to begin HRT in the very near future, but I've waited years without telling a soul so several more months is perfectly fine. :)

Much love,
Danielle

Hello Danielle,

Congrats on getting started! I'm in the very early stages myself...

I'm not sure where you're located, but I know in Canada (Ontario) there can be a months long waiting list to book an endo appointment. Keep in mind that the letter is only step 1! You still need to find a doctor willing to write you a prescription.

Best of luck!

I'm quite uncertain as to how the appointments will be setup and when I can begin HRT. I'm hoping to begin HRT in the very near future. :)

I got my letter today after 2 sessions about a month apart. I was expecting to have to go at least a few times but after today's session she said "So you need a letter now?" I guess she could tell I knew what this was about and was ready? I've been living full time for 2 years so I knew I was ready but she couldn't know that. Seeing the doc on friday to start taking e :)
