"He/She/It Goes to College" Revisited

Since my opinion column "He/She/It Goes to College" was published November 9, 2010, on RenewAmerica.com, I have received over 150 emails from various individuals who have protested my use of the word "it" (among other things).

[...]

Clearly, I aroused some anger. I suppose you could say I issued fighting words. However, the folks at Transexual Menace asked me to explain to the transgendered community why I chose to use "it" in my title. I agreed to this because I want to explain that, contrary to popular opinion, I do not hate transgendered people or wish to dehumanize anyone. Furthermore, I am not uneducated on the subject of transgender equality or health as many have alleged. Rather, what we have here is a distinct divide in ideology and worldview.

Quote from: Jamie FreezeYou do NOT have the right to challenge cultural and societal norms without facing resistance.

Resistance goes two ways, buddy.  Anyone trying to make my life more difficult can be assured that I will return the favor.  If "gender norms" are causing me problems, then I will start causing them some problems (along with anyone who promotes them)

Doesn't matter what you think, "it" is perceived to be demeaning, derogatory and/or insulting to most people.  It's the social definition that matters, not your definition.

Maybe it's time for a new set of pronouns.

I am glad this got picked up again. My petition kind of fizzled out and I had other things to do.

I'm confused about why someone who's such an obvious conservative (seriously, just read the original article, it's so gross) is writing an article for a TLGB website, but whatever...

Some people do prefer 'it' as their pronoun. That doesn't mean bigots get to use it for everyone.

it might have been better to use "other" rather than "it"
not so much de-humanizing, its more like sub-humanizing

there's has been many murders on the term that it wasn't murder if their not human
here is a example that was in the newspapers:
http://www.metro.co.uk/news/world/243637-duped-lover-kills-transsexual-with-fire-extinguisher (http://www.metro.co.uk/news/world/243637-duped-lover-kills-transsexual-with-fire-extinguisher)

the terms used by the killer was "it" implying it was "okay" to commit such if it was a trans

worst yet there has been cases of groups of people "hunting" TS as a sport
(forgot where i was the paper for that one)
