Title: forced for gym..help...
Post by: Anisha on March 27, 2011, 04:58:54 AM
Hi everybody,
I am 19 year mtf transgender.I really dont know whether i need to change completely or not.I am extremely tall but my hands and legs are perfectly thin for a sexy female.I really love them. But my family are forcing me to go to gym. If i go to gym it would be very difficult for me to not do those exercise that will make my hands and legs muscular.I would have to make them bigger as ordered by my family.I really dont know how to prevent it.Should i start HRT or should i only take t-blockers.please suggest as soon as possible.
With Regards,
Anisha

Why in the heavens would your family force you to go to the gym? O.o

The only thing I would think of is spend your gym time on cardio and not strength exercises. In other words, use the treadmill or the bike instead of weightlifting machines. That would help prevent muscle building I think...

do some cardio then stretch out and try to increase your flexibility.

If you can get Blocker take them.

I think you Anisha above all else what you need is to have your very own place, a place to call your very own, so you can literally close the door on the rest of the world.

People need to see you as an independent adult which is what exactly you are :)  I never lived alone until I was 34!  Family, friends, time at university all was with other people and it's surprising what we do to ourselves even when the people we live with say nothing at all.

Find a place to call your home, the time spent there will allow your true feelings to grow, we all have both manly and womanly aspects how it all fits together only we know for ourselves, I think you have a sneaking suspiscion.  Having a place of contemplation, safe from the world priceless at times like this.

Gyms are pointless, I've never understood the attraction. Spending time on a tread mill makes me feel like the human equivilent of gerbil on it's wheel.

Just say to your parents that you'd rather do your spoting activities out side and then go buy a longboard. I'd recomend a Landyachtz deck if you can afford it (or get your parents to pay).

Gyms have some purpose for those that are going to regularly use them.

yeah...to part you from your money. :P

I just don't see the attraction, I'd far rather be outside than inside anyday of the week.

Well they have 3 things going for them besides the obvious problem that like it's been raining here for weeks and weeks now, sometimes very heavy (3 inches in 48 hours) and most people don't want to workout in the rain (except mountain bikers), one: locker rooms so you don't go into work stinking (applicable only to those that have jobs that need you to shower before work, as opposed to after), two: they have specialized equipment that is hard to either afford or keep at home, and three: they have professionals to guide you, and classes that can help you meet your targets.  Lots of health care policies cover some part of the membership (mine puts in half the cost) because preventive medicine is a lot cheaper than paying once it all goes South.

Professionals to guide you? Like when the guy at induction showed me the gym in 5 minutes flat :P  At least it cost nothing was supposed to be £12?!?  a complete waste of time that was apart from him trying to sign me up for full membership haha how transparent are these people.

Yes gyms do serve a purpose, against bad weather, costly machines very good points you raise indeed tekla.

Having others around exercing makes people more focused it's a good thing if it's non-pressured :)

OK. For one thing, exercise doesn't necessarily have to bulk up your body. It sure never happened to me. You need plenty of exercise for general good health, anyway. Bulking generally only comes from resistive exercises like weight lifting and push-ups. You could take it easy on those. Running and most other calisthenics should just make you a bit firmer, but not too brawny. Eat a lean diet and you should be OK.

This sentence worries me, though: "I really dont know whether i need to change completely or not." If you are not certain without a doubt that you are a woman in a man's body, you really have no business taking any femininization drugs. Wait until you've fully discovered yourself to make that step. You're very young and you've got plenty of time.

Besides, it's not really just a Mr. Macho or Ms. Girly world out there. There are many ways to be. We each have to explore ourselves and test our theories in the real world before we know who we are. Relax and get to know yourself better.

they are forcing you to go to a gym and get muscles? it sounds like they have some real obsessive problems. anyway, if you did go to a gym, you could just only do cardio. no one can force you to lift weights there. you said you are 19, so i have no idea where these people get the idea that they can tell you what to do.

AWESOME IDEA! I just added it to my bucket list. Hope you don't mind! lol

Lifting low weight with high reps will tone but not really build big muscles. Plus if you are like me when I was younger I could not put on muscle despite my best efforts until I was in my mid 20's.

Will t blockers not harm me permanently ?Will it lead to infertility?
Depending what you mean by harm.  Breasts are permanent, any hip growth is permanent, at 19, it is a possibility.  My hips grew out between ages 23 and 27 and I also gained 1" in height just with my own testosterone.
Yes, if you take any of the estroils or blockers it may cause permanent sterility if you take them long enough!  That depends on your own development, age and body.  Me, at age 58, this is no problem.  By your posted question it is indicated that you may eventualy want to be a parent someday.  Yes, there are the sperm banks, but they had failures in those facilities that wiped out whole sections of sperm samples!  Taking these things intermittently will cause those fertility and other nasty problems as well.  Do not fool with these things until you know about the indications of each kind of the HRT treatments and how to cope with the family and your friends with this!  Check with your doctor and see a therapist.
You don't have to go to the gym.  Ride a bike.  I did.  I got good legs as a result!

Not find it monotonous though?  I still ride twice a week 14+miles to local historical and nature spots, the gym is a change of scenery as well as the home of that gorgeous rowing machine.  I used to have an exercise bike I used that when did not want to go out on the bike.

I also hiked, did gardening and lawn duties, moved around heavy gear, cleared brush around the cabin, etc.  No time or money for a stinking gym!   I biked to work every morning until 1991 when I could afford a vehicle, that was 50+ miles a week for at least 15 years plus store and bank runs!  I worked from 8:00am till after ~ 8:00pm, various.  The RTD was out of the question.  Besides, at my last shop location, I beat the darned bus home!  I timed an RTD ride home to prove it (1 transfer)!

the thing i don't understand is why they are so neurotic about this. do they know you feel like a female, but think this will make you feel manly and not transition? also, even if you weren't transgender, it doesn't even sound right. it sounds like they are trying to "better" you. they shouldn't even be doing that, they should better themselves.

I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I love it. In summer 15 mins in the sun will burn me, and when it is 40C plus I much prefer air conditioning. I have not built up muscle mass, I look quite feminine,  I have strengthened my ankles, deliberately so I can wear heels whenever I want ::). People have either been friendly or ignore me and fine with either response.

Go to dance classes, yoga, pilates, that sort of stuff. Mostly, women go to thse things, while men tend to lift free weights and stuff.

Feign fainting or a severe Gym-allergy or cry hysterically every time you pass the gym's threshold, just don't ever life those weight things, you have to consider this particular body you're living in. You'll have to make compromises if you will take the T-blockers so this is something you should think long and hard about and what you're willing to let go of and what's important to you.

I go to the gym just about everyday plus P90X in the morning, lots of cardio, Zumba and two days with free weights, light weights lots of reps give me the definition I want without the bulk, my workouts started out of necessity, My Dr. told me, eat right, workout, loose weight or get your affairs in order.

That has been 4 years now, and I have to say HRT and my endo have been a plus for my workouts, she is really fit and understands all my needs.

If your on facebook look up Cris Tina Bruce, she is a real inspiration  http://www.facebook.com/cbruceuss (http://www.facebook.com/cbruceuss)

Try the bike! Move to Minnesota - we've been rated the best trails state in the US!

You might try going swimming - it's amazing how many calories just being in the water burns. You don't realize it, but you use nearly every muscle in your body when you're in the water as your body is doing everything it can to keep you a-float. Even just being in the water for a few hours, you'll burn lots of calories and tone your body, and you'll feel sore from it.

That is because it's testosterone which seriously builds muscle. If you can get on spironolactone for a couple months prior to going to a gym and then maintain about 150 mg daily then everything you do in the gym will likely just tone you muscles, rather than build them. And you may become impotent for a time, but once you stop going to the gym and don't need spiro anymore, you'll be back up to your regular sperm count quicker than you can find a new girlfriend to share it with!
