My fiance and I picked out my name of Amber Michelle because not only do we both like it, it would have been the name my mom would have given me if I were born a genetic woman. Plus Amber sounds exotic and sexy.

When I was about 6 years, or there about, I was out of the class for a while, can't remember why.

Anyway, near the cloak rook, there was this huge mirror. I stood and looked, hating what I was seeing. So, I tried to mentally cancel out every bit I didn't like, until I liked what I saw.

Eventually I was standing there, looking and trying to maintain my illusions.

Eventually, I imaginined a guy coming up to me asking, 'Hello young lady, what's your name?'

I just said it. I don't know where it came from, but it felt and has always felt, just right.

My name is a version of Genevieve. I've always liked the name so I selected it. I was going to use it on this forum but there were other girls with the same name. I created the one that use here (pronounced Jenny).

When  was 4 my mom caught me wearing my sis dress, she said: "I guess you want to be my Kate, ah?" And so Kate was born. I grew up with the name, my dad hate it and never called me Kate. Since I presented as a boy, when people first met m and I would say "call me Kate," the conversation would invariably go to "a boy called Sue" or Alice Cooper. My daughters call me daddy Kate

When I was young there was a doll called a Cindy doll. A rival to Barbie so I have found out. My sister had one and I kept 'stealing' it to play with. That's how I picked Cindy. My Mum never accepted me as her daughter but she did once say that 'if I had been born a girls I would have been Andrea". I thought about it, it is a nice name but for the connotations  of acceptance etc I kept my name. I'm very comfortable with it.

Tesseract Allen _______, I'm not going to say my last name yet but I assure you it's scottish. Tesseract refers to a fourth dimensional Hyper Cube and was actually a nick name one of my friends had for me. Allen is a cross between my middle name (spelling wise) and a character from a steven king book, Alain. Finally my initials are TAM which is the true name of someone or other...

I used Maureen, a feminized version of my male nickname, from my teens until my early 20s partly because I admired an old baby sitter by that name and partly because that would have been my mother's choice had I been born (um) differently.  I never really gave it much thought until...

One night shortly before Chelle and I were married, we were headed for a girl's night out when she asked me for help with a stuck zipper.  "Thank you, Sue."
I looked at her and she at me.  "I never thought your name fits.  You are a Sue or Suzy to me."

I'm new to all of this, but I have known for quite a while that my parents thought I was going to be a girl till about 2 months before I was born, and for a long time they had Emily picked out.  Since I'm not really a big fan of that name I chose a close derivative, Emma.  And for a last name I wanted to use something of a character I love from TV.  Since one of my favorite shows is How I Met Your Mother, I wanted to use a derivative of Robin, so I ended up with:
Emma Robyn

I was up very late one night a long time ago, (back when I had just upgraded to the brand new 56k modem) and was in something of a trance as I signed up at ...Nature's Path I think it was called...when I came out of it, I had  logged in as Anastasia. I liked the name and kept it. The funny thing is that a few (12) years later, I was talking to my mom about baby names. My sister was pregnant and keeping quiet about the names she had picked. I asked my mom what my sisters name would have been had she been a boy and what would my name have been if I had been a girl. My girl name was Anastasia, so I knew I had found my feminine name. It was my great grandmothers name.

Mine came to me in a dream while in college the first time around.  As I believe in past lives and the paranormal and  I had no idea what I had been going through my whole life I dismissed it as something entirely different. Now, 20 years later and having discovered my true self and understanding it now I am very pleased to have remembered that dream.  I'm a little late getting to your post but I'd say don't try too hard, try to think about it one night as you're going to bed and maybe it will come to you that way. Good luck. Hugs, Lana B.

I had thought about this for a long time what my female name would be, and I came up with so many I liked, but most of them were also names of people I knew, and I just thought that would feel weird. I had decided on Candy long ago, then after quite some time, I thought Skylar/Skyler would be great. Then one day when I was talking to a friend on names I could use, and she said the name Rachel. I had debated that one before, and never really cared for it all that much, but now, it just seemed to fit with me. So, if I ever go public with this (hopefully I do), I'm gonna use the name Rachel

well everyone says my name should just be Eric since that is the male form of my birth name but i dont like that name.
at first my name was skylar but people started calling me skysky and still kept the female pronouns so i was like no, i remmeber my dad telling me how he and my mother loved the name Andrew, and i love the name Drew, so i picked Andrew as my first name. and than my middle name is James which is my best friends name, i love him so much and he has helped me through everything so i thought it would be a nice touch and i also have his last name.

I used to be Michael in kindergarten. I later learned they wouldn't accept me (Dominican Nuns) with a heathen name (Axel), so I never knew I was Axel!
Only after ~5 years it was changed "par ordre du mufti" (my mom) and I became Axel. As it turned out I was never too fond of it really and initially quite sort of confused. (a pre-taste of transition name changes?)

In any case my femme name is Axelle and I am very happy with it since having become Axelle, I am Axelle, it didn't take very long. It actually only features in France and Fr. Belgium.

Self being German born it would be VERY odd in deed if pronounced in German. In French it sounds lovely (go to Google Translate and listen to the French proper pronunciation). Living in SA, English speakers have less of a problem. Bless it!
Michael becomes Michelle... more French yet again, but so be it. I also always liked Michelle (think of the Beatles song... :-)
Now if folks for their own dang reasons still want to call me Axel (like the rear or front axle) and Mr. me to boot... SO WHAT?!
If it makes them feel better, hey?
All know of course I'm Axelle since my transition but some just have a block or chips on their shoulders. C'est tout, voilà :-)
Et une bonne soirée mes amis, hee-hee
Axelle

I chose the name Sage for my masculine part of myself because of a story I was writing.

This story is about a fifteen-year-old boy named Sage, who was born with a devil's tail and didn't know why, and had to face discrimination every day for being born that way.  Psychologically telling, no?  lol.

I asked my fiance, "What do you think my name would be if I were a guy?"

His immediate response was, "Sage.  You subconsciously created Sage's character as male version of yourself."

And believe it or not, he was right.   ::)  It's wonderful how intuitive he is.

That's perfect, Sage. And it's an awesome name that fits what I know of you.

Once I realized I was trans, I looked back on all my stories I'd worked on and noticed...."Hey, all my protagonists have really serious gender issues..." I find that heartily amusing.

My first name is a name that I became jealous of in the 2nd or 3rd grade. I wanted a boy's name that could pass for a girl's name (since I was girl-shaped). Hence Ryan. Still have not decided on my middle name.

I am considering Ryan Ellery (it's from the same root word as my original name and hints at detective stories, which I grew up on) or using my mum's maiden name (which is boring but sounds nice with my other names). Problem is I have a ridiculous Czech last name that doesn't sound good with anything.

Sage Laurent is good. I'd also think about...hmmmm....Sage Emmanuel comes to mind, or Sage Scott, or Sage Patrick. Gimme some criteria and I can look around. I write a lot, so I'm always coming up with names to fit personalities. :)

I'm thinking of changing my name but I'm torn.  I'm not sure why I picked the name Julie.  I just liked the name and felt like a Julie.  Plus it kept my initials the same.  I've been thinking about it lately and I'm sure my parents would have named me after my grandmother if I was born a girl like I should have been.  My older sibs were named after my parents I was named after my grandfather.  Stands to reason if I was a girl...  So then my name would be Carmela.  ICK.  But I like Cami.  It's cute.  On the other hand I have been using Julie for about 20 years and while hardly anyone actually know me as Julie it feels funny to just change my name.

Ellery sounds really cool, personally I think it fits and you should go with that.  Yep.   ;D  I also think that Czech names sound really cool; it's a very interesting language indeed.  As for me, I have a very boring, Anglo-Saxon last name.  If I weren't getting married to someone named Mahan, I'd change my name to my Italian grandfather's last name:  Mossiano.

I think Francis Ann is a very nice name-it rolls easily off the tongue.

The doctors told my parents that I would be a girl but unfortunately I was born not completely female. She had picked out the name Stephanie for me-she later named my baby sister by that name. Randi is a variation of my given name and is what my mother has always called me so it just seemed appropriate for me to use it.

I wanted to stay away from anything that didn't "fit" - for instance, a middle aged woman named "Brittney" would probably be laughed at.

so my first move was to ask my mom if she'd had any favorite girl names (and she didn't recall any) and then I decided to look at the most popular female baby names from the early 60's

I made a list of the ones I liked, eliminated those that were not practical for one reason or another and got a short list. i had decided ling ago to use "Elizabeth" as a middle name just because I liked the wide variety of diminutive forms...so the chosen name had to "flow" naturally when spoken "____ Elizabeth _____"

My first choice was always Tammy - for reasons I'll get to - but I had a favorite cousin who's nickname from childhood was Tammy and I was afraid I'd "creep her out" so I picked a different name (Laura) but that just didn't "feel" right. I still love the name but on some weird metaphysical level - it wasn't MY name.

So I made the hard choice to shift gears and go back to Tammy.

The name has a number of qualities i like, but most of all it just....it's MY name. I can't explain it.

The one thing I discovered when I was trying to decide whether to switch from Laura to Tammy that I'd not thought of before was this: signature. I'm one of those folks that prints EVERYTHING except my signature...and I discovered i couldn't learn a naturally flowing signature for "Laura" - I mean I could do a wooden textbook version but not something that looked natural on paper and being written. (No, I can't write Elizabeth in cursive either, but i never intend to need to!)

I don't have that problem at all with Tammy - that removed any shred of doubt I had about switching

Ultimately though, i ended up in that school of thought that "your name chooses you" - when you get it really really right, you will "feel it"

I've thought about names a lot over the years. "Lyric" is a name I use only on the web. Offline, I use a name that is based on my given middle name. It's a fairly common one and I chose it because women with that name seem to often be attractive and successful. If you don't think there are odd similarities between women with the same first name, do a Google Image Search of a few names. You'll probably notice some recurring looks, occupations and so forth.

BTW, I don't think of myself as having an "opposite" gender name. Call me weird, but for me, gender is a less sharply defined range than "opposites".

My given name was Samuel and growing up the called me Sammy or Sam.  It seemed logical to become Samantha and it feels right to me.

I'd have been Natasha.

Most of my stories are published under the female name of Rose though.

Every Brittney will eventually be middle aged.  :)

:o My given name is very "Androgynystic" in form and I happen to like it,  the only problem is, both my brother and I hold the same name [We are twins], mine is the female version of course...But since we both live in opposite coastal regions... I take pure delight in using the male form of our birth name...[it's ok to "piggy-back"] we have the same name right? hahaha...[Mother didn't know she was having twins]  ;D

P.S. the name I chose here, denotes the direction I'm in: --->>>La [feminine] (2) --->>>Papito [Masculine]

I chose mine as a feminine version of my boy name coupled with a girl's name that sometimes is also used by guys.

Personally, I have a bit of a fantasy about star-crossed CDing couple (he's an MTF CDer, she's an FTM CDer) who take opposite gender names as their middle names for interactions in the 'real' world. You know names like:

David Suzanne
Timothy Michelle

or

Stephanie David
Diane Michael

I think THAT would be cool

Like many others, I've used several different names for myself. The 1st name I tried was "Roberta" which was just using my real name's female variation. This was when I was 9/10. When I got more involved in cross dressing in my mid teens, I felt "Roberta" was just too lame and really wanted to see my female self as her own person so decided to be a bit more creative, and chose the name "Laura" for 2 reasons. 1-it would have been my name if I was born a girl 2-it was coincidentally the name of my girlfriend at the time. I really loved that name and really connected to it and it is still one of my favorite girl names. However, once I broke up with Laura, I couldn't continue calling myself that. So one night I was watching my favorite show "Who's The Boss?" which starred my first celebrity crush, Alyssa Milano. I though about using her character name "Samantha" but didn't like how the show always shortened it and called her "Sam". I decide to use her real name because it was truly feminine, unique at the time, and she was and still is extremely hot. So that is how Robert became Alyssa.

I'm not sure why, but I just like the name Mackenzie. My given name is Matt, so I guess I chose it since it's somewhat similar to my current name, while being different at the same time, if that makes sense.

My male name is Michael. So, when I began creating my feminine persona, I naturally used Michele. But, I didn't really feel attached to it.

As I refined this persona, I somehow picked up Michayla; I think that I heard it on TV, or somewhere. I like it better because it's a rare name, and it sounds like my parents put some thought into naming me.    :eusa_think:

My wife and I were watching Springer years ago and she noticed all the outlandish names the crossdressers were using, (Not sure how they categorized themselves, so CD is an assumption.) But anyway, she said why don't one of them just stand up and say "I'm Pansy!"? Well, about then I spit my drink out all over the living room and laughed so hard my ribs about split. Now that's the name I use and I'm not sure how excited she is to have dubbed it, but it stuck enough that I have it tattooed inside my lower lip!

Love it love it!  Your mom sounds like she has a great sense of humor. Great story! Must be nice to be called by your name from family and friends.

I have always liked Jaime because its unisex. I used susie for a while as my internet name and as a "friend" name when I had to explain my girly feelings to the guys. ("My friend susie thinks that") it worked for a while...lol! I have always known Jenny was my name, I just didn't want to use it, I don't know why but I always felt it would out me for some reason...silly me lol! I now just prefer  to go by my last name it works great because its neutral.  But I like your idea of saying "just call me Kate"  I might used that with " just call me  Jenny, Jen or Jen-Jen" , I will consider it.  The a boy named Sue and Alice cooper are great for explaining to people who might not be comfortable with it! Sneaky but works Lol.

*Jenny* ( I go by Jen-Jen!)

My criteria were:

  • First name

    • Nothing crazy unique. Not just to avoid being clocked, but crazy unique isn't my personality.
    • A meaning that fits me
    • I like the nicknames thereof
  • Middle name

    • Of a foreign culture, probably Japanese (anime fangirl ^-^)
    • A meaning that fits me
  • I kept my last name 'cause I like it.
  • Of course, the whole name has to go well together, both audibly and written.

I had many candidates, but decided on Jennifer Rieko, going by either Jenny or Jen, addresser's choice. Jennifer meaning fair, smooth. Rieko meaning child of logic (perhaps obvious from my organized, scientific method of problem-solving).
I like your thinking!  And your name! -wink-

I eventually settled on my name because it felt right...but I originally chose it because it's unique, with a sort of medieval/gothic/old english sound, and its shortened nickname (Amy) is the name of one of my favorite singers.

This is my first post.  I haven't even done the introduction one yet!   ;D

Anyway, since I'm bi-gendered I wanted a gender neutral or cross gender name.  I actually haven't picked bi-gender name for myself until I needed to create my Susan's Place account so I did a Google search on unisex baby names and came across several sites with suggestions.

I really really wanted Teagan since I'm part Scottish on my mom's side but it was already taken on this site and I thought Tegan (Brittish spelling) would be confusing.  Would it?  Teagan / Tegan is my first choice.

So I settled on Ember.  It's a Germanic name used in England and Western Europe.  I was thinking of Ember Rain (opposite ends of a spectrum, right?) but that's the name of a band in Utah.  Hard to find anything unique, really.

So it's Ember for now but if it wouldn't be too confusing on this board I still like Tegan.
