Just found this forum, I'm 13 years post-op, Shrang girl, living in Florida, and have no one I can talk to at all about this.
I pretty much disappeared out of the TG community after surgery, being that online at the time it was just a giant cat fight on usenet, and I'd really had enough of that. Presently I have no sex drive at all having been off hormones for three years owing to poverty.
I'm hoping to make some friends here, perhaps even one nearby. Sure would be nice.

Well hon, I would love to do that, but I can't afford a doctor to write me the prescription that I could get filled for $4. That's why I've been off hormones for three years, because the doctors did me the way they did. $180+ for a doctor visit, and the last one wanted me to have a $300 mammogram as a condition of my hormone prescription, so I was out of luck there.
These days I stay with a dirty old man who doesn't know I'm TS, and I take care of him and his house after having backed him off chasing me for sex. He's 77, and in poor health, an old high school bud of my Dad's, and Dad isn't telling.
I'm out of work and looking for a job, but it's slow going.
To be honest I have to say that I don't miss having a sex drive, and really don't want it back. All it ever did for me was mess up my life.

Amykins, hormones are important and I find it unconscionable that a doctor would blackmail you into a mammogram.
I think that you need to find a new doctor or at least get a free mammogram somewhere.
You need hormones to prevent osteoporosis.

Yeah hon, I know that, but they don't care, and I'm really poor. If I weren't staying with someone who has an internet connection I wouldn't even be able to post here. You are right, it was blackmail, and this was in rural Alabama. I'd told her that I was TS, so I'm pretty sure that's why she did it.
There are some women who are like that when it comes to us, but I'm sure you knew that.
I've inquired of a clinic here where I am now, but they want me to prove I don't have a job, in other words I have to prove a negative, which really isn't possible. I'll show them my next bank statement, but I don't know what else I can do.
I'm also diabetic, and I don't know what I'm going to do about insulin either.
My Dad tried to send me money via DHL in a double envelope, and when I got the envelope today it had been opened and taped back shut, and the envelope inside had been slit open and the money stolen, $500, gone.
Life is really not going very well.

Welcome dear Amy.
Is there a clinic you can go to that will give you a prescription? You are legally a woman, how can you be prevented from having hormones?
It makes sense that you could go just about anywhere for help, I hope that is the case. There are free clinics. And estrodiol pills are very inexpensive.
Also, support groups can be helpful. I'm sure there are people in those meetings that would help you figure out a solution.
best of luck,
-Valerie
Yes Valerie, the pills are very inexpensive, but the doctor visit without insurance is not. I wish I could go just about anywhere for help, that would be really nice, but without insurance there's no one around here that wants to deal with you.
A support group would be really wonderful, but I've not been able to find one anywhere near here. Naples Florida is not TS friendly at all.
This forum is the first one I've found in a long time where there are other TS girls my age. The rest of them seem to all be for the kids, and I've found that the kids are not very friendly at all. When I said I was 13 years post op in one of their chat rooms I was flamed quite viciously for it and called a liar.
That kind of thing is why I've not bothered with the trans-gender community for the last 13 years.

Wish I could afford it. I have half a tank of gas, and no money, so if I go I'll burn all my gas, and maybe make it back.
It's a rough time I'm going through. Wait... you mean there are other TS girls here in Naples? I think I might want to meet them.
I'm guessing I can't put my picture up as my avatar until I'm done with probation here....

Hi Amy
Welcome to Susan's as you have already found out there are a lot people to help you overcome your current circumstances. Renate has already mentioned that taking the right amount of hormones is 'extremely important' I know only to well what happens from not taking them.
I'm 20 years post op and for several years I was not taking any hormones and as a result my health deteriorated considerably, I ended up with type II diabetes, my blood pressure went up,I put on extra weight, my skin would take a long time to heal when it got cut, I had no energy to do things. I had enough, maybe a little depressed and my libido was none existent. However, around two years ago I started taking my hormones and I was taking them at an appropriate level for me which is the normal mid range level for a female not at a level for a post menoosal women. As a result all of 'conditions' I mentioned are now gone. Yes, I check occasionally my sugar and blood pressure and that have been nothing more than normal.
So long story short without a doubt you must try and do everything possible to get yourself back on hormones. I will never go off any hormones ever again, regardless of the risks of taking them, because not to take them would result in greater damage to my health.
You are right it was blackmail that was being used in regards to you getting hormones. Others have already mentioned about getting support and hopefully this will lead to you getting the hormones you need.
Sorry, that you lost the money that way, next time could your dad go to a bank and get them to transfer the money directly into your account? Also don't worry about mixing with the 'community' I have never mixed with the 'community', except briefly when I first started out. Susan's has been my only outlet for the past year and a half.
I have learned a lot and hopefully I have helped others. Just remember to ask and I'm sure there be someone who will come along and help you in anyway they can.
Look after yourself and I wish you all the best.
Warm regards
Sarah B

Hi Amy :icon_wave:
Are there any free health clinics in your area? Perhaps they could help you with a prescription. Many of the larger cities also have government supplemented programs at at least one local hospital for those who can't afford medical care. As Sarah and Renate mentioned, taking our hormones is vital to our physical and emotional well being. As post-op women we aren't creating enough hormones naturally to fully sustain the vital functions they support. I too wish you the best of luck in finding what you need. :)

Thanks for the support and the replies Chloe and Sarah. Well there's a clinic here call the Friendship Clinic, but I haven't been there yet, and when I called them on the phone the woman who talked to me came off quite stern, as though I were trying to pull something over on her, and lectured me about how I have to prove I'm poor and unemployed.
Seems the Friendship Clinic isn't all that friendly.
So I'm going to wait until I get my next bank statement and take that in with me. Gotta give it a shot.
Right now I'm at the point of selling off some of my things so I can eat.
Yeah I'm bummed about that money too, and DHL didn't tell him he could not send it that way, they just confiscated (stole) it. I really needed that money bad, no I don't know what I'm going to do about food and insulin.
(Great hair Chloe! )

Thanks Amy :)
Yeah, those people tend to be that way from dealing with the general public every day. I think it's in their job description. ;) As long as you can prove your financial situation they pretty much have to treat you. At one point in my life I was unemployed and had a serious accident in which I broke my arm and needed surgery to repair it. I just took my previous tax return to the hospital financial aid office and actually got the surgery for free. I hope it works out for you!

Your bank can print you off a statement at any time.
There's no need to wait for a monthly statement.
