My name is Freya Edwena Weston and I am a 59 year old M2F transsexual. When I was 5 years old I knew something was different about me, I didn't like the usual boy things like other boys. My grandmother was making a dress for my mother and I stayed after her, bugging her to make me a dress too, until she gave in and made one for me, I wore that dress until it was nothing but rags. By the time I was 8-9 years old I remember watching an episode of Doctor Kildare on tv, he was trying to help a 16 year old girl that was pregnant out of wed-lock, back in the day that was unheard of, and I knew how girls got "PG" as the adults called it around us kids, but I wanted to be "PG", so for months I walked around pretending I was "PG". As time went on I tried to live as normal life as I could, trying to be a man. Joined the Navy, but ended us telling them I wanted to be a woman so they gave me an honorable discharge and sent me home. Got married, thinking that would make a man of me, 20 years later and 3 daughters, I was still the same person I was at 5 years old, wanting to be a woman. Marriage ended in divorce. Two years ago I could not take it any more, so I ordered some horomones from Inhouse and on April 1 2009 I told my friends and family that I was going to live the rest of my life as a woman even if I never could have surgery. 2 years later I have advocated for the Vetrans Association to change their care concerning transgendered vetrans and have made some head way. The VA now takes care of my Psych, my blood and lab work and give me horomones through a VA endocrinologist. Everything I had thought was a pipe dream has done a turn around and become a dream come true, I just love it when a plan comes together, ain't life sweet !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Freya, :icon_wave:
Welcome to our little family. Over 6300 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion.
Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams. Ask questions and seek answers. Give and receive advice.
But remember we are family here, your family now. And it is always nice to have another sister. :icon_hug:
And be sure to check out these links ( MUST READS )

Freya,
Welcome! I am just 1 year younger, Navy vet. My experience was that I knew that I was different about the same age as you but I didn't know about these things until Christine Jorgenson was interviewed by a local TV talk show host in the mid 60's. I had the full 4-year enlistment in the Navy, but my dysphoria was successfully squelched at that time. It came back in spades when I got discharged. I seen therapists, but I got nowhere with them. One said that I should go at it alone. Nothing was done.
I did not marry or even go out on dates because of my dysphoria and the depression that it came with. I manage to slog through my work and was even awarded regional "Top Gun" a few times by the company I worked with. I am now semi-retired from forced layoffs and I am on a fixed income. I finally had it and started HRT nearly 5 months ago for the GID and a prostate problem. All I seen are improvements mentally and the physical changes are welcomed. No negatives nor mood swings thus far.
V.A.? I don't bother with them. The Iraq - Afghanistan vets are still having problems with the local V.A. hospitals, those including my nephews (one has 2 Purple Hearts and a bronze star, both still in) have higher priority.

Hi Freya, welcome to Susans! There's no shortage of veterans here, I started a "Roll call" to try and gather them all up in one spot. Hugs, Tracey

Hi Freya :icon_wave:
Welcome to the best forum in the world.
I am so glad that your life has eventually turned out the way you have always wished it to. You, just like me, have had to wait far too long to let the woman within loose. Luckily, it is never too late. :)
Enjoy your stay here and keep us up to date with your progress.
