Hello everyone.
I'm going to be starting HRT. There is no set date but my therapist is getting me a refferal currently.
I guess one of my concerns is my sex life. I'm currently in a relationship.
I would really prefer my genitals to not be effected very much
at all. Is there anyway around that? Or anything at all anyone can tell me about this?
I've heard from some people that if I stay sexually active i wont have a problem. Not sure how true
that is.

You never are going to know how the effects of HRT are going to manifest themselves. I think retention of erection function is very individualized and highly variable. During the time I was on Estrogen and Spiro, I had lost all function to gain erection. Though, I know several other trans women who have retained some erection function. I would say at the very least you might experience loss of random erections, but may still be able to get erect when aroused.

Taking estrogen won't change much for you. However, the spiro which blocks the T will effect your sex life. But without the spiro to block the T taking why take estrogen.

A T blocker is not always essential, many European doctors work without it. The progress may be slower but the estrogen will make changes.
As said before, the ability to maintain erections is variable and after some time on estrogen the spontaneous ones will in most cases disappear, however that will not impair the ability to get aroused in the right circumstances.

Hormones are a package deal and unpredictable.
Somebody who wants to limit their effects should really sit down and reconsider why they are doing this.

Hi,
I have been on HRT for about five months and I barely notice the guys downstairs. He is sooo quiet. I can still get an erection but it takes more work than before. This caused some problems in bed with my wife who, while she is supporting my transition, she isn't overly thrilled about the changes.
I found that Viagra helps the problem tremendously for me. It lets me achieve the firmness I had when I was 18 and continue the intimacy that she craves as she looses her husband to transition. I'm very healthy so there are no medical issues for the Dr. but you should check before starting it. Also, the pills are expensive so you want to make sure the mood is right. One time I took one, thought we were going to be intimate, pissed her off by mistake, and sat there thinking to myself, now what? LOL. Viagra will not cause you to get an erection but will help you get one when stimulated. I haven't tried the others on the market. I'm have a Dr. appt in a month so we'll see.
I enjoy still being able to be intimate with her while at the same time I've resigned myself to a plan of full transition. As a bonus, from what I have heard, keeping things "active" prevents atrophy so the SRS surgeon has enough material to work with.

I think the obvious question is, are you sure this is the right thing for you? Are you absolutely sure you are TS and not just CD?

Like Melissa, Cialis (rather than Viagra) allowed me to get good erections. The spontaneous erections in the morning went away after a few weeks on HRT. I could get erections through sexual stimulation but they were not always consistent. Cialis solved that.

IMO If you take spiro and you still have that TG feeling its a pretty good bet that it is not a fetish or some other sexual interest. When the T drops and the libido is gone it is amazing the clarity you have. I still got that lovely TG GID feeling so I guess I got the full ride scholarship to transition!
I have heard that in Europe some doctors are using anti-androgens like spiro and CA to filter out those that are not true TG's before starting full HRT.
