hello, well im 21 going on 22 in a couple of months and usually i dress "goth" well at least thats what many people would call it. Since ive been slowly transitioning ive been buying some girl clothes here and there that are would some would call goth or emo, whatever its labeled. Lately some of my family members have been saying that i am too old to dress that style. I feel bad and ive been thinking about it, it makes me upset because i love the style but people just keep telling me i should dress mature. What is your opinions is 21-22 too old to dress however i like?

You're too old to dress how you like when you're dead.
That said, I don't think my eyes would appreciate seeing a 96 year old wearing a miniskirt and a revealing shirt at the mall.
20's isn't old.

How old is too old to stop being yourself? Death. That's when you're too old. ;)
Seriously, I have a friend who is nearly 40, professional chef, and successful goth DJ. When he's not cooking, he looks like he does at the clubs. All the time, everywhere. Don't let others dictate how you express yourself. As long as you're not hurting anyone, who cares?

Just wondering... what do you do for fun?
Do you do art? Acting maybe?
One of the most liberating things I've had in college was when our acting club performed an Alice in Wonderland-themed introduction to a school event. (We had over-the-top costumes, and I loved it)
If it makes you uncomfortable to be dressed in goth in public, don't worry. There must be some "excuses" out there you can find to express yourself.

Rabbits you have a point, up to a point. This young professional tosh is a joke though you're in for a ticket because a cop doesn't like young professionals.
You're more likely not to get a ticket than a young goth, agreed.
There's something about looking sort of striking, if I wear a suit some women love suits,if I wear a shirt I get sirs. If I wear something casual but nice it's the longer than usual looks from women.
Clothes are very important but they don't have to be young professional, can be but don't have to be.
Yes I hate sexual dysmorphia, that's in a feedack loop with gender dysmorphia I can handle gender dysmoriphia as I exist first as a person but it's a person who interacts with the world as a female.
I'm looking at the definition of dysmorphia and this is not a psychological condition (don't answer I don't want to thread hijack) I am perfectly psychological well apart from conditions arising from society being a f*ing fail lol.

I have seen 80 year old women wearing minis and stilettos. How the hell they can walk in them is beyond me. So you are only as old as you feel. Or maybe that should be as young as you feel.

Never too old. Hell you're still quite young, wear cute things and be cute! Wear whatever you want!

Early in my therapy (I'm in my early 50s) my therapist told me how she had recently written an SRS surgery referral letter for someone in their mid-60s. It's never too late, and you're never too old, to be who you really are.

As far as I'm concerned to be young and to dress and act in a mature manner (or a young professional ;) ) is the most devient and abnormal look going. The lifestyle is also as exciting as watching paint dry.

Now I'm getting older I decided I needed to change my name to Sophia, this coincides with the realisation I am the one and only really classy chick upon this board.
GOD MY FACE IS SO FAT.

Conforming is the last thing anyone should do, to do so is pure madness.
I was joking about being the only classy chick just to make it clear lol, I've thought many a time how this board is full of the coolest people I ever did see :)

All I would suggest is to take a look in the mirror once you are dressed and make sure everything is "right". It's the details out of place that will be noticed.

Wear whatever you like, just do it with confidence.
21 isn't too old to wear anything, except maybe nappies/diapers... or a school uniform...

I used to be a manager for a Hot Topic store (music and pop culture apparel. Bright pink skinny jeans, leopard print jackets, rock tees, etc.) and a woman in her 40's used to come in with her son. She would buy things that other people may think were too young for her age, but she said, "I dress for me I don't dress for anybody else." That's a good way of looking at it in my opinion. When I'm 80 will I want to wear lime green pants and a floral blouse? If I want to I will, but I won't do it because it's expected of me. Be yourself.

I agree do what you want and what makes you happy. Follow whatever official dress codes you may have at work etc. Other than that your style is all your own.
