Title: Pizza :(

I'm obviously addicted to pizza. I always seem to fail beyond the 3rd week of dieting, and I've been trying to eat right for 6 weeks now. I've come to love vegetables for the first time in my life and enjoy the right foods. But pizza is proving to be my one true addiction that I can't quit. I've had pizza 3 times in past 2 weeks. I'm giving in more than I'm resisting and I feel disgusted with myself. My favorite thing is an Italian pizza, which is basically like a meat lover's but everything is especially Italian-spiced. Then the little cup of garlic sauce is the icing on the cake. I'm addicted to pizza. :(

My kind of guy. WooHoo
There is no such thing as a pizza addiction. Pizza is nature's most perfect food. You can only be healthy eating pizza.

The best diet is something you can stick with long-term without feeling like you're missing out on foods you love. So, instead of having dieting rules like "I'll never eat pizza again" or whatever you're going by, let yourself eat whatever you want, just not too much and not too often (kind of like, if you eat a king-size chocolate bar daily it is obviously not going to be healthy, but studies have shown that eating a small amount of dark chocolate daily it's beneficial because of the antioxidants). Maybe reward yourself for sticking to your diet by having pizza once a month, or whatever interval suits you. Or start off having it more frequently, then taper it down to however often you can get away with and still lose weight :) That is great you've learned to love vegetables, though, dieting's always easier when you actually like the foods you're eating. I guess another way of dealing with "pizza addiction" is making your own, healthier version of it. Like, less meat, more veggies. Just a thought.

One of the few downsides to living in Cali is the closest good pizza is Chicago, though my NYC friends wouldn't even agree to that and would keep on driving East.

Yes I have a good friend from NY, and we go back and forth all the time ! He's always asking me how I eat Chicago Pizza when you can't fold it ! He moved back to NY last year, and he did admit the Pizza here was pretty darn good. I think for his birthday in couple of month I'll send him a Chicago Pizza !

For me it's kebabs. Unfortunately , the person who got lunch couldn't get a decent one. Found that if the kebab doesn't get you the garlic sauce will. :icon_blah:

I've just learned to be content with awesome fresh seafood - calamari, sushi and frutta del mar - fresh fruit and veggies and wine, lots of wine, wine growing all around me. And that other thing we grow in California.

Thankfully Minnesota doesn't have super awesome cultural food. We've got lutefisk (which is good if you have any interest in eating rotten fish soaked in lye). Come to the Minnesota state fair, then you will see the greatest, most unhealthy food in all of Minnesota. Deep fried Snickers on a Stick? Hell yes. Deep fried you-name-it on a stick!

I think that was created so that Gefilte fish was not the worst food in the world.

Ask if you can get the veggie pizza seasoned up like that meat lovers one, which does sound good by the way!

Me Too *Drools* But I have the next best thing... A #9 (Italian Night Club) sandwich from Jimmy John's
Ooooohhh do I love pizza though... Whether it's NY style, Chicago style or Italiano style with the cracker thin crust
The best pizza I can remember though came from a small "hole in the wall, mom and pop" pizza shop when I was a kid... This place was so small it was basically all kitchen with three barstools up by the front window and those were for people who just wanted a slice or two... The way it worked, you walked in the front door and placed your order then you went out and walked around to pick up your pizza at a half door at the back of the shop

I'm missing living in Bristol (England) - the only place I've ever lived with a pizzeria that does wheat-free pizzas. Okay, it's definitely not the same as the "real thing", but then a wheat-free pizza is also not a make-me-grossly-ill pizza. Spinach, gorgonzola, walnuts - heaven.
Unfortunately, pizza goes straight to my paunch, like the song says: "thy belly is like unto an heap of wheat, set about with lilies" but without the lilies :(.

Hamburgers are my weakness, the moo-moos (cows) are cute and all (I feel sorry for them), but boy do they taste good when ground up and cooked, then slapped on a bun with a variety of other things to compliment what already taste good by itself. I also eat a lot of hot dogs too (beef only - again, poor cows). I love pizza too, with as many ingredients as I'm able (so long as it isn't anything wierd).
Junk food wise, I'm a cake, pastry, pie, cookie addict, and if it has chocolate in it, all the better. :)

I vote for Toto's Pizza House, Lygon Street in Carlton, Melbourne. First Pizza place in the city, and introduced the Gaggia espresso machine to Australia, early post-war period.

Hi Sascraps,
.
You can have pizza on a diet. The main difficulty I've found is portion control.
It's just too easy to eat a piece or two...and then keep going until you wipe out
the entire pie. ;) Now there's an addiction I understand all too well. Mmmm...pizza.
.
When dieting, I generally don't keep it in the house. It's just too densely caloric,
and not very filling...and oh so very tempting. But every now and then...you just
gotta have your pizza. :) As long as you keep the calorie consumption within reasonable
levels, giving yourself a 'normal' calorie day every now and then so you can have pizza can actually be part of your diet plan if you want to. It's not a "failure" if its part of your diet plan. And it should help you stick to your diet, if you occassionally plan to eat something you really really enjoy. (keeps you from feeling deprived, and gives you something to look forward to) So...maybe make every Satruday night pizza night (or some other high cal dish you enjoy equally)? :)
.
Best of luck on your diet.

This is an addiction I understand... Mmmm...
But there are healthy versions of pizza you can make....
I recently had a cesar salad Pizza that was really good, and a little healthy as well...
But I struggle with just eating two slices of pizza, I could almost down the whole thing at times.

I fel you there. I have to limit myself to four at a time or I could easily eat almost the whole box. I just had pizza the other day.

The Uni Philosophy Club meets at a local cafe on Wednesdays. Metz in Sandy Bay. They do gourmet pizzas for $10 after 6pm. They would have to be the best pizzas in Hobart.
Interesting that philosophers always seem to end up in cafes. Especially ones that have jugs of beer for $10 as well. ;)
Karen.
