Title: How do you clean up?
Post by: juliemac on May 07, 2011, 07:59:07 AM
After dialating, I usually wash up with mild soap and water with a wash cloth but.
Over the night, I "ooze" lube. Always sticky and yucky.
I have been sleeping in a highly absorbant bathrobe and it has kept the bed clothes cleaner.

I was thinking of sewing a wrap with velcro closeure to absorb this discharge and keep me cooler in the summer months.

What great ways have you girls come up with?

I'm dilating once a day now.  I usually sit for a few minutes after dilating then use baby wipes to clean the excess.  I follow that up with a quick bath and a douche with water.  I sleep bare and have not had any problems.  You could try using disposable bed pads.

Generally if im low on time I will use either a wet wipe or wash with a face cloth. If not I'll take a sitz bath to clean up, I hate he oozing feeling ..

Did that when I got back. I started to use towels after the second pack.

My daughter walked in on me last night.
"Ohhh g&d Mom, thats gross!" (She thought I was masterbating  :)
"No" says I. "Thats what the pink one is for...."
And with that, fled she the room  :)

A wash cloth then panties with a liner.  I tried the towel early on and always woke up with it squashed into a ball on the other side of the bed.

I wash the dilators and try to wipe off with a baby wipe, then I usually try to go pee right away too and then wipe with TP.

I'm still wearing pads though so the pads catch any extra lube later on.

i alway clean out properly with warm water after every dilation i ever have.

I was warned to clean out by other girls and clinic staff so i just stuck to that, unsure it makes a difference but the thought of anything in there still is unappealing to me

I'm not as far as you in being post-op so I guess you'd be experiencing it (like others in this thread) a little different to me!!!
I get the feeling it becomes a little looser with time? ...so it discharges more readily/quicker? I think mine still discharges slowly and over time and maybe not every bit comes out before I next dilate, even after douching. I don't think my douche reaches up to the end, it goes in about five inches and I squeeze hard but I don't think it flushes all the way up due to the muscles moving back in more. though saying that you're not meant to be douching after every dilation after around six months?
I'm also sussing out how to use less lube so there is less of a mess, I don't need to use a new bed matt with each session now. I find that only putting lube on the first three inches of the stent then going in for the opening, then pulling it out and reapplying a little more helps to not push it off all in one go as it used to.. the pulling it out helps it to lube the first muscle and deposit right in front of it so next push you push some of it inside. The excess lube around the opening covers the stent enough for between 5inches and beyond for me, plus for me the last two inches hardly go in due to swelling! 0___0  I also use a mix of QC and sliky, but I'm a little fussy at the moment due to pain >__< One is really thick and sticks to the stent more and the other is more watery and I put that over the top.. not sure if it really helps but ....maybe psychologically ;)
In the future I may just use silky as I doubt I need as much to get the same result, it seems to just glide instead of being a bit thick and gooey like QC and KY. Though it may run out down my butt faster :/
I use kitchen paper to wipe once I'm done then wedge a folded kitchen paper wipe between my butt to get me to the bathroom and catch the first dribble load then in the bath I run the warm/hot water and wee >__< then douche then use the little yellow dish to run water over then wash with my hand with hibescrub as I still have some (but will just use liquid shower soap once I run out) to wash, just inside the opening then a sanitary pad with another folded kitchen paper wipe over that until I have my first wee again. It catches most of the discharge and gets me through until I next dilate (which right now is only six hours or over night).
I guess being 10 months you'll only be ...once a day? Maybe try the kitchen paper folded, even two sheets folded if it's a lot.. I find I can (safely) make a pad last 24hrs doing this, unless it leaks through to the pad and makes a mess but rarely does at this stage. >___<

*promises to use shorter sentences in the future*.

I'm at twice a day now and I just clean up between with a wet wipe.  I get a little discharge through the day or in the night, but not enough to fuss over.  Maybe I use less lube?  And one thing I've wondered about is if this kind of thing is just something GG's are used to, between periods & having sex without a condom then going out for dinner!

Panty liners have been the answer for me.

Hi.  I usually douche using water then organic soap (Dr. Bronner's) after my dilation.

I do not subscribe to the belief that douching is not necessary after dilation.  Although, after talking to some GG friends, I found out that there is no standard way to do it.  Some douche regularly, others only when they feel like it.

Th neo-vagina is very different from the genetic vagina.  I think keeping it clean all the time by douching is very important since it lacks the natural cleaning mechanisms that genetic vaginas have.

I agree. I stopped when I was told by a doctor, but, after 2 weeks I felt, gunk...
I started again and discharged some nasty stuff. I am going to start doing it weekly and maybe with a mild soapy solution.

yay for douching! Though saying that it's winter here so I don't douche at night time as it's too cold and just go straight to bed afterwards >__< Mine hurts :( it's this crappy plastic that skipps at it goes in no matter how much lube I use.. and there are little ridges around the side holes at the tip, the F?
It looks like this but all white, well stained brown a little from that cleaning stuff (forget the name right now)..

War? Really? Individual pussy cleaning methods just don't seem that important a thing to me to fight over, honestly. lol Hey, whatever works for ya is okay in my book. :P My surgeon did tell me our vaginae become self cleaning over time and I figure the surgeon who built my particular model should probably know these things.  Never did warm to the term "neo-vagina" however, makes it sound less than real or something.  Just my funny way of seeing things I suppose.  Anyway I've never had any odor or infection, and mine is clean and keeps my boyfriend happy so that's good enough for me. ;)

Muffin hon, I'm over here on the Aussie east coast freezing mine off too so you're not alone lol

I guess I used the term because I'm comfortable with it.

Don't get me wrong, I do not think post-op, pre-op or non-op women are less of a woman.  In fact, if any, I find that we are more committed to womanhood (a quote from a non-trans female friend who always encourages me).  But since we are on the topic of differences between a natural and a man-made vagina (is it not?), I thought maybe I should use a distinction.  But that's just me and I respect other's opinion.  Likewise, I apologize for offending, if any, anyone...

But yes, I am all for douching.  I also find it that if I douche with warm water (shower water temperature), it's easier for me to insert the dilator.

I'm also in the market for more comfortable douche applicators.  Can anyone post a link, perhaps?

Cheers!

well mine was woman-made (Dr. McGinn) but yeah, I get what you meant lol ;)

I sit in the warm tub with clean water and just sort of swish it in and out with my hand cupped flat against the outside. This seems to work well and technically I guess it could be called douching

I learned to make sure all the water is out though after I once had it suddenly decide to drain some more while I was standing in the kitchen some time after my bath lol

"Neo-vagina" made me laugh when I read it - does that mean that ciswomen have palaeo-vaginas? ;D - ah, the majestic vaginas of the ancient world, swooping over the landscape, hunting for phallosaurs...

[okay, that's enough now, stop...]

I'm officially supposed to stop douching tomorrow according to Brassard but I think I'm going to keep it up, just less frequently.

Big issue for me. I was done in 1999, a colon section. If I don't douche weekly I get a hideous buildup. Technically, I don't have to dilate but I still do during droughts so I'll be ready :)

I buy a commercial douche but only use the container with water with an antiseptic. So after my weekly dilation, I flush everything out several times and afterwards I need to wear lots of protection for several hours afterwards because most times not everything comes out straight away and I am effectively vaginally incontinent for a while (yes, I know it's gross, but my reality).

I understand that with a penile inversion this is far less of an issue. If anyone has the same issues and knows of a better way I'm all ears!

(PS. Please don't PM me. My post count isn't high enough to PM)

Morticia

I was done in the mid 1980's. I wasn't colon - I was an early experiment in penoscrotal inversion - BUT I had some anatomical "irregularities" and what resulted (after my later revision) was a vaginal canal which is at least partially self lubricating and has a well above average depth. I too have the same issues that you describe, including the tendency for stuff to accumulate in a little "reservoir" at the top and then slowly discharge down later.

I have also found that douching is non optional if I want to keep things smelling sweet but I have found that I can use an traditional women's remedy of a douche made with a weak solution of cider vinegar - followed by a small amount of a probiotic cream which contains lactobacillus vaginalis. This adjusts the PH of the vagina and the bacterial flora to be the same as a natal female. Like you I tend to use a light pad afterwards.

Sorry I cant give you a magic fix - but at least you know that the problem isn't entirely unique to colon ops.

Thanks for the info.

Thanks Jenny! I'm interested in the lactobacillus vaginalis you mentioned. I'd not heard of it. I'd just been focused on keeping clean and knocking out phantom germs. I'm pretty sure that any flora would be preferable to whatever I seem to be generating ... will definitely try this out.

Julie, taking info from me is probably a case of the blind leading the blind :) The surgeon and his helper told me beforehand that my private parts would be self cleaning and there'd be no need to douche.  So as time passed my b/f at the time's saying, "Hey, you're getting pretty smelly. Maybe you should douche?" (ever the tactful one). Meanwhile I'm saying no no no, I was told that I'm self cleaning.

More time passed and I'm not smelling so great and thinking that maybe that's just how things are. The b/f is not thrilled at this point and I'm in denial. Then, after a bath all this horrid pooey stuff just fell out of me and I freaked out, thinking it was faeces and I had a fistula.

Took a sample to the doc who tested it and said there was no e-coli. It was just a buildup of cells, blood, natural lube etc.

I was experiencing a fair bit of pain during intercourse for the first few years post-op so the b/f and I had reverted to the pre-op way. Once I got my act together I found that nothing cleans you out like a good bonk ... men actually do have some uses ;)

Usually I have to hold my head after a good bonk. You make it sound like a good thing....

I've been freaking out about having stuff stuck up at the end and getting compressed, when it hurts during dilation I start thinking "ggeezzz there has to be something stuck up there surely _..". Plus the douche only goes so far up and it gets pretty tight up the end unsure whether the water even gets that far hhmmmm. I'm sure it's fine but sometimes I do worry >__<
But saying that I haven't had much come out recently just a few tiny dots of red or little red stringy bits or lube with a reddish tint to it! I'm thinking it might be the scar tissue-i-ness!
I'm yet to have a bath.. it's too cold here *winter*.  :-\
