It looks like they are just using it on Women who are born without a vagina or with a shortened one, but it looks like it has lots of advantages over other methods.

::) An interesting read I must say...I had a colonvaginoplasty procedure which is the only type of GAS carried out here in NZ...This too was also first performed on young girls who were born without or with a deformed vagina...

Not being MTF, I dunno if I should even post in this thread. :P

Looking at the procedure, though, it may be possible to use this method for MtF SRS. I can see it working if the doctor knows what they're doing.

As Kia ora said, an extremely interesting read.  However the question that one would need to ask is, can these procedures be incorporated in SRS?  Given the different anatomical differences.

Really fascinating.  I am just wondering if, since penile material is typically removed and used, how could that part of the surgery be done laparoscopically? In other words, since there is already an open wound, would anything really be gained?

However the technique used in NZ is less intrusive[but still more intrusive than the penile inversion technique] , the internal part is done laparoscopically, similar to how it's described in Leflauren's link...

I suspect not. Penile inversion doesn't use laperotomy anyway. The entire surgery is done through the neovaginal opening.

I would think that this surgery, while fascinating, would be of little use to the MTF transsexual as a surgical option.  There is still the issue of the cosmetic construction of the neo-clitoris and labia majora from the excised penis and scrotum.  And there is the issue of the external puncture of the neo-vaginal opening in order to attach the perineum extension.  Because of this there would be an additional risk of abdominal infection, much like there is when a colonovaginaplasty is performed.  When the penile inversion is performed, the surgeon will go to great lengths not to puncture the perineum so to reduce the risk of infection.

These surgeons do, however, perform bladder fistula repair and labia reconstruction.  These are real issues to post op women and could be a good resource for that.  From some of their pictures on their labia repair site, they seemed to have some very nice results.  But I would contact them to find out specifically if they have dealt with post-op trans women before.  Most of the SRS surgeons perform labia repair as well and are familiar with the issues that may face women like us.

I spoke with them today, they have never performed the surgery on a MtF and don't feel comfortable with the other aspects of the surgery (formation of the external genitalia, relocation of the urethra, etc), but they would consider it for vaginal lengthening in a MtF patient who had already had surgery.
