Title: shaving pre-t
Post by: julian6 on June 05, 2011, 11:06:10 AM
Hi guys,
I'm pre-everything (including being in the closet) but I have been growing my eyebrows out of their female shape. I have also stopped waxing my upper lip and the hair is definitely noticeable - the reason why I began waxing in the first place. I was feeling disphoric over waxing it but still want to get rid of it somehow..

Has anyone shaved their upper lip/face while they were still presenting as female-leaning-andro?
I know the hair shouldn't grow back thicker (I don't want it to be thicker while still presenting as female) but I'm still nervous about how it will come back in. Any thoughts/advice?

Thank ya

I read somewhere that if one shaves, the end of the hair is squared off (like a tree stump), and that's why it "appears" thicker and darker. When one waxes, the hair is pulled out by the root, so when the body replaces the root, the hair that comes out is pointed, creating the appearance of thinner, finer hair.

That's been my experience with various body areas that I've shaved and/or waxed...

Yeah, Beth is right.  There's (to my knowledge) no evidence that shaving makes things grow in differently.  My facial hair came in fairly normally in high school, and I've been shaving ever since.  Even while presenting as very female nobody seemed to notice or care.

ive been shaving for a while and i decided to stop for a bit to see if it was any darker at least. I naturaly have dark brown hair to begin with so my uper lip has always been kinda dark, but yeah my fuzz has gotten darker even if it is just apearing darker it makes me feel better. I have to shave tho couse it comes out in some patches.

I shave my peach fuzz off because it helps with the dysphoria. I feel very masculine when I shave and one time I did shave the next day one of my friends said my face was very soft lol. Also guys do't have peach fuzz so I think to some extent it helps me pass.

I shaved regularly for a few years a long time ago, pre-T (as Mr.Rainey points out, peach fuzz can give you away). My facial hair always grew back the same. No thicker, no fuller, no darker.

in elementary school (about 6 years ago) my teachers told us that men dont have "peach fuzz" it is actual hair hair-er something. so people are more opt to think you are a woman if you look feminine and have "peach fuzz" on your face/lip because its a very "woman thing" unless you look really masculine already, then any facialhair is great!. SO i shave my entire face once a week, it helps me feel more masculine and ive found it doeas actually make me pass more when ive shaved more recently  :D. Iam pre-everything as well.

I'm pre-t although I do have noticable patches of dark, thick whiskers (not peach fuzz) if I don't shave every day.  I've tried growing it out to see what it looks like, but it's so patchy it just looks weird.  Very much like a 14-year-old boy's face.  So anyway, I shave at least every other day.  If you're wet-shaving and using a moisturizing aftershave, it's actually really good for your skin.  Shaving and using aftershave is pretty much exfoliating and moisturizing.  So as long as you do it right, it can't hurt-- it can only help your face.

A lot of women have to shave their face. Nothing bad is going to happen if you do.

This makes me want to start shaving, I've thought about it for a while, though I'm pre-T.

DGAF. /shaving in the women's restroom. This is what happens when a transman is stuck in a women's dorm for one more week.
