Title: Some newer birth control pills need ban: U.S. group
Post by: LostInTime on February 06, 2007, 11:21:12 AM
Filed under the, not safe to self medicate folder (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070206/us_nm/contraceptives_fda_dc;_ylt=AjSqWbDw6cIP_9tzVBrROG9H2ocA;_ylu=X3oDMTA4dW1uZXIwBHNlYwMyNzQ3)

Some newer birth control pills, which carry twice the risk of dangerous blood clots as older contraceptives, should be banned, an advocacy group said in a petition filed with U.S. regulators on Tuesday.
[...]
"By banning third-generation oral contraceptives, the FDA will potentially save hundreds of young women a year from developing venous thrombosis and its disabling and sometimes fatal consequences," the group wrote.
[...]
Blood clots are a known risk of hormonal contraceptives, including birth control pills. They can occur throughout the body and dislodge to block blood flow to the lungs and other crucial organs.

Yes, I know that contraceptives are not what we need for M2F HRT but the fact is that there are those who use them for that purpose.  never take anything without seeing a doctor first.

Oh, this is bad news for me. They want to pull mine and it's the supposed to be the best one for ovarian cysts.

I guess it's back to the drawing board....I certainly don't feel like suffocating on my own blood. File that under: Gross and Kind of Scary.

While these new drugs may or may not be more dangerous than those currently on the market there is one thing that will always be a constant.  Pharmaceutical companies are not going to tell you the true dangers of thier drugs or stop selling those medications until enough people have died to draw attention to them.
