Sometimes I think I am fooling myself when I talk about "acceptance" in this blog, and that perhaps I am confusing it with "tolerance." I've often praised the people I interact with in my journeys. Socially speaking, when they encounter a transitioned person, they do the right things: they are polite, courteous, professional. That's tolerance. But, it is not necessarily acceptance.
How do we gauge whether people truly accept us or not? Should we even be trying to gauge that aspect? I mean, it is enough that people are professional in work settings like the office, the retail industry etc., yes? Their personal feelings are their business, right?
