In 1999 Ms Beyer made history as the first transsexual in the world to be elected as an MP.

She says she will give serious thought to putting her name forward for the forthcoming Wellington mayoralty race, and expects to make a decision about the middle of the year.

Georgina Beyer. Her family lived around the corner from me... I went to school with her younger brother, Andrew, and met Georgina when she was home from boarding school during the school holidays. She was stunning in Jewel's Darl; I was so envious.
