Poll
Question:
Do you like the decision to scrap the member reputation ratings?
Option 1: Yes
votes: 16
Option 2: No
votes: 3
People who take on leadersip roles tend to get a whole lot of stick, much of it unfair. They all try so hard to do their best. But sometimes they commit the cardinal sin, they make a mistake.
Then there are those times when people might simply disagree with them. Then there are those times when they can get so fed up, they wish they'd never bothered.
We have a pretty good set of mods here. But one recent decision I would like to say I personally think is brilliant.
They got rid of the member reputation ratings.
I never really thought these belonged on a forum like this. Too many of us have enough problems and insecurities, without worrying about our current ratings.
I hope the Mods don't mind. I've made this thread into a Poll to ask what other think.
As I understand it, the recent disappearance of the Reputation system-as-was is only a temporary thing, caused by the forum software being updated, and the reputation "plugin" needing to get updated by its authors before it works properly again with the new version. So it should be back again soon. It'll still be interesting to see how the voting goes :).
Personally, I like being able to give people a thumbs-up, it's nice to be appreciated - but would never consider smiting anyone, it's much better to sort out disagreements personally. So I can't answer yes or no to this poll!
I voted yes, though I know it wasn't intentional...

I agree with that. Something like a "like" button would be cool because so many members post so many great things but I feel like if you don't agree with what someone says use your words to work it out, ya know? Or ignore it.
The reputation thingy should stay in the trash heap.
I have had it happen that I was in a really bad space then come to Susans and see that I have lost a point of rep. It sent me into a tailspin for the day.
We have allot of people here who have some serious issues. (Me amongst them.) Smites and applauds only serve to be an extension of the in crowd. People with high charisma who make pointless posts get reputaion like crazy and people who are not as charismatic make some good posts but no one ever gives them reputation.
The rep system really has no proper place in a forum of this nature.

Appreciate the sentiment, but it may just be temporary until we can get it restored. :)
I would like to point out at this point the vote is 100% against the rep system.
I like it gone too. While it's nice to be able to show my appreciation for a particularly helpful post, I don't understand why a running tally of points is needed.
I don't understand why a running tally of points is needed.
So you know who's winning, of course.
Ah, thanks. It all makes perfect sense now. ::)
Why else have a running tally? It's like that sign at work that says it's been one, oops, sorry, no days since our last industrial accident.
I give a thumbs down to the keeping track of the points thing but thumbs up to being able to have the opportunity to tell someone they put a smile on my face, made my day or stated something very well.
Sure, you can do it in the thread or you can send a PM if you wanted to keep it private. But the rep feature is simple to use, accumulates in one place and limits your comment. Short and sweet.
The smite thing, I'm not a big fan of. You don't like what someone said and you smite them, making sure you give some BS story to support your vengeance.
When the rep points were awarded after the last time they were reloaded, people were awarded points. If the points are to stay, I say let them all be earned.
I didn't realise it was a temporary disappearance, (perhaps I just hoped it was :) ).
But for those that want to see it return, it will be nice to see some no votes. If only to show some support for it.
I don't like it because it gives people whom you have blocked a loophole for interaction with you.
I was never that comfortable with the reputation system as I felt that persons with potentially unpopular opinions, ideas etc would refrain from posting for fear of getting a lot of smites. I know that when I see that a member's reputation count is low compared with their post count I do tend to think that this person may be 'difficult' or 'objectionable' in some way. By contrast a high rep score may just show that that person knows how to stroke the egos of other members. I think that reputation points are divisive.
I was never too crazy about the rep system... I do like the idea of a like button to be able to tell someone that you liked their comment because it gives a positive :) No smite or any button with a negative connotation is necessary IMO

I do not think that get positive applouds have anything to do with "charisma" but rather with having a lot of empathy and sympathy. I am not one of those, and as such I have goten my share of smites for my thoughtless, abrasive, and down right offensive posts (right Cynthia?)
I try to apologize, some times they are accpted, some times rejected. I err I am human, and like many of you under a lot of duress, so I am not always a Lady.
I feel the Mods are like my bosses at work, they have to heard cats, not an easy enterprise. Personally, I always accept their spankings, andafterwords promise to do better . Life goes on.
Kate D
Me? ???
I don't real care either way as far as the reputation thing goes.
Having once been a Mod I real appreciate all that they do and put up with.
Jillieann
I have such an urge to give Jilliann a rec for not caring ........ but I caaaannnn't !!!! cuz it's not woorrrrrrkinnnnng !!!!!!

It never stops people like that. They are used to it. Hell, I treasure my smites more then the applauds.

I know, and how better to find people with interesting things to say. As Alice Roosevelt used to say: If you don't have anything nice to say about anyone, then come over and sit next to me.
Hell, I treasure my smites more then the applauds.
Yes, but you also like to get spankin's and even like to pick out a spanker >:-)

Hey, if I learned one thing in my life it's that if I'm not out looking around for trouble, then it's out looking for me.

True that professor
Awww...! I really was thinking&hoping someone made a mod-praise topic. XD I swear these days everyone needs good hugs! ;.;
Well...yeah, I have to agree. There was an idea of reputation...figuring out who was...well...reputable...and to signal them if they're a good person or being too super templar...but...It got lost somewhere, maybe quickly, maybe slowly.
