Title: Insurance
Post by: cryan91 on June 23, 2011, 11:45:16 AM
When will insurance cover trans heath care???! It's so difficult just to pay for hormones. The thought of SRS is incredibly daunting...not because of it's risks & such but because of it's price tag. Is there any plan for SRS to be covered in the near future? Are people working on & fighting for this to become a reality somewhere??!! I joke with friends "by the time I can afford it, it'll be covered!!!" humph

My insurance covers most of my hormones' cost. In fact I picked up my refills yesterday and it cost me $10.00
it just doesn't cover SRS. So you may want to check again because cis women also have HRT and it would be covered too.

Granted it has been many years, but I never had a problem with BC/BS paying for prescriptions, therapy and bloodwork.  The key on the bloodwork was ensuring that it was coded 'correctly.'

I never looked to have them cover surgical costs, but then again, back then I was only looking at $7K.

Current insurance does not know about any of the prior issues...so they pick up the annual trek I make to the GYN without question.
