Title: Searching for a site
Post by: LostInTime on February 09, 2007, 10:11:28 AM
Actually a good freebie one that offers a decent amount of bandwith.  I have decided to, after my next lecture, to make my materials public.  this would be all of the PDF research files that I have along with the materials that I have generated to do the lectures.

Prefer to stay away from ones that use very annoying marketing techniques.  Thinking about geocities but thought I would throw this out to you in hopes of finding something better or at least a bit more different.

Geocities is ok if you pay to get rid of the anoying ads.  I have my domain through Yahoo Geocities - craxford.org and I've been pleased so far.

Geocities free account is horrable.... they dont offer enough bandwith usage if your files are of any decent size... I think its only like 5mb/mo or something and that goes by fast....

I second that Lynn, with you have to pay to get good service.

You are probably going to have a hard time meeting your needs for free depending on the image you want to convey, i.e., serious or academic - IMHO. You do get what you pay for....

The next tier of service above free, which gives you full featured web hosting, usually runs $5-10 a month if you pay for the year. I have several websites hosted at one such provider, and have had outstanding service.  For under $100 a year I get 10GB disk and 250GB/mo bandwidth.

There are many sites that rate service providers, I just Goggled "web hosting." If you are interested PM me and I will share with you who I use.

Hope this helps,

Kelly
