Got a few more hours to go here, still 97 here, should be hot tomorrow when we head down to San Rafael for the best Puerto Rican food then we have a room in the City, close to the fireworks, and we'll head out to the beach the day after that.

Actually here in California it tends to be much more Mexican/Southwest/Oriental than Euro.  We don't even have English words for place names.  Everything's in Spanish in California, starting with 'California'.   Like Sara Palin with Russia we too have to have a foreign policy, but ours is with Mexico.  We have plazas, not squares.  And our burrito wagons and taco trucks?  Second to none.  Pretty awesome sushi too.

From the UK perspective it was the other way round, and it was Mr B. Liar who was down on bended knee, lips a-puckered, and ready to kiss some Texan booty. :P

Regardless, I hope you folks across the pond have a great day. :) *hugs all her American brothers and sisters*

There are more German descendants in America than any other nationality. As far as our institutions Rome lives.

Eretz USA!

Happiness and good wishes to all,

Happy freedom day everyone! My hair decided to assert its freedom today by being entirely disobedient, and my stomach has been asserting its freedom as well. On the flip side, I've been asserting my freedom with delicious delicious enchiladas made from scratch, with scratch enchilada sauce made with chili peppers from our garden. Yum yum!

How many people here know a fair bit about Colonial times and the Revolutionary war?     I have a degree in History and throughout the 4 year course we only did one course on American history, and that was a synoptical course covering the period 1865-1990.      I have to admit early American history doesn't enjoy much popularity over here.  I have looked in bookshops and even libraries for books on this period and there is almost nothing.

There are quite a few of us boomers that were taught that history extensively in school, not our kids and grandchildren.  I checked with the PBS website and found very little on the Revolutionary War or history previous to that.  I found this though: http://www.pbs.org/ktca/liberty/ (http://www.pbs.org/ktca/liberty/)    But you may be locked out here on a few pages because you are outside of the US.
Google "Revolutionary War"  or "American Colonies" .  There are plenty of info there.
