LiveScience is usually respectable and thurough about these things, they generally only accept published studies by esteemed universities and then "summarize" the findings in an article. They are a great website for common-sense answers to life's social mysteries, they are very focused on psychology and human behavior. I rarely read anything on there that I haven't already studied in a hardcore sense, but the site really condenses the work for those (like me) who also do just enjoy browsing through and feeling confident that major misconceptions are being corrected on a daily basis.

Beauty is so much more than just what's on the skin or the surface. True beauty transcends just the face and goes deep into one's "soul"
Because someone has a pretty face does not automatically make them beautiful.....not even close.
I agree that you can't judge a book by its cover but given the choice to be beautiful, average or unattractive I'd choose beautiful handsdown. On a realistic note, however, I will never be what is considered beautiful. I was a nice looking guy and though I passed in my younger days as female I have since put on the middleage spread, gotten the usual bags and sags and though I don't frighten old ladies or little children I'm not a ''stunner'' either. I currently care for someone who needs me 24/7 so for me ffs is in the future followed by a facelift and whatever cosmetic procedures I can get to help me attain the look of a nice looking lady who appears younger than her true age. I'm not vain. My goal is to simply fit into society.
I agree that everyone deserves to have their own opinion about what is sexually attractive and beautiful to the human mind, however the nature of a published study usually involves facts proven by scientific means; if anyone has any published studies they could share proving that a human being is able to ignore the outside appearance of another in any context, I truly would like to see it; I believe every study should be given the opportunity to be confronted with another.
What I personally like about the study above is that it indeed said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but that physical image is not ignorable to the human mind. It specifically says that human beings judge physical objects, including human faces, based on physical features, and depending on wether the judge finds the object of interest as beautiful or not effects the empathy and excitement levels in the judge's mind.
