Title: Help a transwomen out!
Post by: ajborelli on July 09, 2011, 09:28:10 PM
this is a quote from apost i read on tumblr:

"My local radio station is having this contest, "The Breast Summer Ever" in which the company will fully fund the breast augmentation of the winning woman, on a voting system. I just wanted to bring to your attention that anyone can vote, and one of our own, a transwoman named Avery (#4) has made the top ten, causing a but of controversy in our very conservative city. I think that it would send a very strong message, not to mention make her dream come true if she was to win. But there is no way that she can do it without the help of the community. All you have to do is press a button and your vote is cast. As I'm sure you are all aware, transphobia rates decrease with the ability to pass, and just imagine what this would do to her self esteem. you can vote here"

that is the website to vote, i think this is a great chance to help someone who knows what we are going through, and also i think it will show something to the world. and best of all think about how happy she will be to start making her way to the body she should have been born into!

That video she did touched me a little, when she's talking about how all the other people are well endowed but she basically has nothing.

Voted.

(Is it me or do all other contestant have more than sufficient breasts and would probably look bad with augmentation?)

Besides the first one who have burns on her chest nome of them really NEED breast honestly. They have enough to get by. Buy a push up bra. Avery doesn't even have breast!

I had to vote over and over. I also plan on revisiting the site everytime I am bored, or think about it, and voting again :-)

Just as an aside, out of all of them, she has by far the most beautiful eyes.

I sincerely hope she wins.

Kind of like voting for someone who is legally blind to get a surgery for partial sight versus voting for someone to get Lasik for perfect vision!

Voted! Hope things pan out for Avery. Will certainly come with interesting fallout if she does manage to make it to the top. Please keep us updated with the results as this seems to be mostly local.

I hate to say this, but she didn't come across as all that sympathetic to me. It sounded like 'vote for me because all the other contestants are privileged'.
I wish her luck though.

not at all uncommon for stations to take down voting when there are efforts to flood online ballot boxes by non-listeners.  I know we did that with a similar contest many years ago in Austin...and the station has not repeated the offer since...

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about it. But I don't want to risk disqualifying her.

It sounded like 'vote for me because all the other contestants are privileged'.

All the others are privileged.

Sounded pretty heartfelt to me though, especially near the end, and I can (obviously) relate quite well. Gets my vote.

Out of respect for Avery's desire to truly experience life as a woman, I voted for someone younger and prettier.

easily read as 'welcome to the real world' where the young pretty things get to the top of the list...especially when it comes to online popularity contests.

All this press is a good first step. If Avery plays her cards right, she can become a cause célèbre and cover the cost with donations. You know, after the results come out and she "just barely" loses.  ::)

They made women compete for breast augmentation. You think they'd willingly pass up opportunity like that?!  :o

Though seriously, I do too. :D
