Trans Woman Is Finalist in Breast Augmentation Contest

Something that often gets forgotten when looking at transsexual-related medical procedures of any type is how they are - yes - technically cosmetic, but at the same time combine to facilitate participation in society and life in ways that cissexual people never experience. In the better-known case of Genital Reconstruction Surgery (GRS), this often (though not always) can include the ability to change legal documentation to reflect one's sex appropriately - life-changing in ways that no other "cosmetic" surgery could hope to achieve. But even breast augmentation can be a clear and major step toward becoming the person we know we're supposed to be. It's a step toward Square One, in a way... but without it, sometimes just getting to the point where we can live our lives seems almost unattainable.

Hope she gets it.

I never got that whole "how sexist!" reaction to everything. Psychoanalyze me all you want but I'd take a pair of nice ones in a heartbeat and will be crushed if I never get at least a B some how or other.

In the video she says Canada does not offer health care benefits for TGs but I know for a fact several girls at Brassard's facility had the entire cost of GRS paid for by government health care.

She also said there is no TG protection in Canada.  I thought the opposite was true.

One suggestion, she should at least make an attempt to alter her voice a bit.  At least give it a shot.

Just a few things id like to point out.

Before the federal election, bill C-389 (iirc) passed the HoC, but didnt go through the senate. The bill is about adding gender identity to the listed of protected subclass and the hate crime laws. So no, there is no explicit protection for transpeople in Canada as a whole, unless the place you happen to be in have one.

The federal government doesnt pay for anything in healthcare, it just split the money to the provincial government. Quebec (wheres Dr. B is) and British Colombia are two province that I know cover SRS in their public healthcare (ie free to us) and part of the medication. Alberta and Ontario had it for a while I think. Anywhere else, its out-of-pocket for most of it.

Most of the transwomen at the clinic probably were from Quebec, hence their SRS was fully covered. Most of Dr. B's patient are from the US or Quebec, rarely from other parts of Canada iirc.

In Canada, health care varies from territory to territory much like how here in the US health care can vary from state to state... What is covered in one area may not be covered in another

The economy has been rough on allot of people in several countries

The state I live in made allot of health care cuts beginning in July... I got new glasses and dental work done before the cut off date and still there were unexpected co-pay expenses that I have to deal with  :-\

Oh, this is one contest were the boobie prize is a good thing   I hope she wins
