Title: Does binding hurt for you?
Post by: Silas on July 20, 2011, 06:35:11 PM
I asked my mom if I could get a new binder when this money comes in, and when I showed it to her online she said I may as well get two. Kinda surprised me, since she was always against the idea. Then she asked me how it didn't hurt me. A bunch of people have asked me if binding hurts.

Personally, I'm small (a-cup) and bind pretty much all the time. Even to sleep, if I don't feel like taking it off. It doesn't constrict my breathing at all that I'm aware, and most of the time I can't feel it on my chest; just above my stomach and lower back. I can wear it exercising, though I generally don't.

So, does binding hurt for you at all?

it depends..

I been binding since I where pretty young.. (and I got a small B cup as far I know)
comparing to what I been using before, tape bandage and so it didnt hurt at all,
I where very happy and could really fell it.

but having it a long time like years it can hurt me, specially because im use to take it one size smaller and somethimes I wear too if I feel like binding extra hard,
the last thing hurt and I can only do it for special days.

my lungs are pretty dameges from all I have ever done,
but having a A cup and binding with a normal binder wont hurt you that much.

Ace bandages used to, but my underworks binder doesn't.  The main thing I notice is annoyance at getting short of breath quickly.

It depends on what your binding with. Sometimes I get frustrated b/c I want to be flatter and I'll use ace bandages and binders and duck tape and compression vest all at once and then it is difficulty to breath and I can't move at all. I usually bind up like that on special occasions, like if I'm gunna be out in public for a long while.I want to get as completely flat as possible even if it means being very uncomfortable and in pain. If I just where my 2 compression shirts and my binder, I can get pretty flat which is passable, but I want to be flatter. There's that little bump in the middle that drives me crazy.

I've always wondered this too. Especially if you have a larger chest? I'm hoping losing weight will help but I'm like a 34/36 C :/

It depends on what you're binding with. I have 2 underworks tritops. If I bind with the XL it doesn't, but with the L it does after a while.

For me they're constricting (if they weren't, they wouldn't exactly do the job), but they don't hurt while I'm wearing them. Once in awhile, if I've been doing strenuous physical activity, I'll end up with chafing around my pits, but that's just a result of wearing what is essentially an incredibly tight muscle T.

However, five years of binding has given me bursitis in my shoulder joints, which is INCREDIBLY painful. I don't even want to know what other damage it has caused. My best advice? Get your top surgery as soon as humanly possible, or find a way not to bind for too long.

YEah it hurts for me. I have the terrible t-kingdom  1700, I get fluid in my lungs if I strain too much, can't really run or anything. My back starts to hurt, I get bad indigestion/ acid if I eat... I notice it less now, I can't not go out without it. But sometimes I go into the garden without it and feel the breeze on my skin under a shirt for once and it makes me resent it even more than I already do.

Undoing it is the biggest relief ever. I take a really deep breath and stretch, makes me not want to go out of the house :p

I tried binding twice and hated it so I quit. There was benefit to being a bit overweight at the time since people more assumed I just had man boobs.

yeah my binders hurt, I mean it doesnt HURT, but after about 3 hours my upper back starts to ache and my back still hurts for a few hours after I take my binder off, it doesnt hurt my chest at all, just my back

also, the binder i wear is about 2 years old so its not even that tight and it has had a layer cut out of it too

No, I feel them but no pain at all. I can't run without a binder so of course I can't with one.  I do use my inhaler a tad more often tho.

Yes, it hurts. I use the T-Kingdom 1700, and it kind of slips down and starts constricting the lower ribs rather than the chest blobs, slightly like a corset laced incredibly tightly. This hurts, of course, and is very annoying and inconveniencing. I think I'll buy an Underworks one instead, as the T-Kingdom hurts so much I can barely use it.

Binding doesn't hurt me at all, really. I have a binder that I bought from Love Boat (lucky that you're mom would pay for yours.), and I can't hardly tell I'm wearing it sometimes.

It does sometimes. I only bind when I go out (which isn't very often), and even after a couple hours, it's insane relief when I take it off. It's one of the Underworks ones, and doesn't bind very well because I have huge boobs/tumours. I hope after a while people will just assume I have man boobs, but I guess it's better than nothing.

Yeah, but I'll deal with it because I'd rather be flat.
I have a tritop that I wear and I wear ace bandage over it. Hurts like hell, but like I said, I can deal with it.
There have been times where it feels like my ribs are breaking. I've actually heard them crack before. And once while I was on the bus, coming home from school, it felt like I was being stabbed in the side and couldn't sit properly.

Same, but also if I wear mine daily for a few weeks I feel like I'm trying to breathe underwater after I've taken it off.  It's like it's still constricting my breathing, and sometimes my chest hurts, and I have to stop wearing it for a while (days/weeks) until it stops.  I got my binder used and it's probably stretched beyond the size Underworks would recommend for my measurements.

i only just notice i wear one when i get super active... though i'm kinda lucky that i don't have to bind too tight , because of my build and clothing style it looks just fine when it's a little looser.

Wow, this makes me glad I'm not very large-chested. I can get away with a normal-sized t-shirt and polo shirt a lot of times, though I never do.

Jesus Krispies, that sounds dangerous.  :o

I mean, it has hurt for me back when I used ace and/or tape. Generally because I'd do it too tight when I was too dysphoric. Although regular binders work excellently.

reading this makes me glad that i'm not dysphoric about my breasts. i got a binder from love boats which is even more comfortable than any of my sports bras. doesn't make me too flat (d cup), but there's not much point in that, everybody around here knows me, so i can't expect to pass as a guy anyway after being a woman for so long. i don't have reason to wear it often, it's not every day that i'm a man, so i still don't know if overusing it would hurt. though i doubt it, i always loosen things that feel tight enough to hurt me

When I started out it hurt, it itched, it killed. That was 4+ yrs ago.

It still hurts. Doesn't itch anymore. Leaves marks, digs into me. But I wear 3 tri tops at a time which has caused me problems with my chest and soreness and inflamming the lining of my lungs, etc....so I don't recommend it.

Wow, reading this thread I feel quite fortunate.  Binding hurt when I was overweight, but now that I'm thin and my breasts are mostly just excess skin, binding is never painful with my underworks tri-tops binders.  It's occasionally itchy or hot because of the extra layers and scratchy fabric, but never actually painful.  I wear a slightly larger size binder when exercising so I don't have problems breathing correctly, but even the smaller sizes don't really cause pain except for when I've overdone it with my workouts and my obliques and pecs are already quite sore.  I'm really sorry to those of you who experience a lot of pain with binding, I hope you're able to get top surgery soon. :(

My Tri-top started being painful real quick, so I don't wear it anymore. It makes my shoulders and back hurt even if I only have it on for a little while. Luckily, I have a small enough chest that I can get by well enough if I just layer up some sports bras, or even just wear one tight one. Still doesn't make me as flat as I'd like, but nobody notices that.

You're incredibly lucky, dude. I lost 80 lbs a couple years ago and thought the moobs would shrink as well, but they instead stuck out more than ever. 3+ years binding at the time, and they're the exact same size. I hope I can get surgery soon, too.

Yeah even though I'm a small A-cup.

It didn't hurt for the first like 6 months of binding, but now it's uncomfortable as hell from the moment I put it on to when I take it off. It's like always squeezing me.. and I can only sit in certain positions without feeling like I'm being suffocated.

I once wore an ACE bandage overnight at the police station -- do NOT recommend.. LOL.

When it's just my 997? I forget I'm wearing it, honestly. I don't sleep in it, but I definitely could.
When I've got the tritop on top of that? It hurts. It hurts bad, especially around my ribs. I blame that on my fatness, though.

I'm not out so I can't buy an actual binder. I use ace bandages, which constrict my breathing after a while. Besides that, though, it doesn't hurt.

I'm small so can get away with minimal binding.  I could sleep in my binders and have, by accident, with no issues. I find it even more comfortable than bras were for me.

It only was a pain when I was doing it improperly with a DIY binder that I was wearing the entire day (6am to 10pm maybe). Since getting a good quality one, I haven't had any problems.

It doesn't really hurt, it's more soreness. But I do have a D and I use two binders when I go out. At home when alone I use nothing, and with my family a lighter one. I've had to do that because I'm developing breathingproblems that last past taking my binder of, my shoulders hurt, my back hurts... I'm ready for topsurgery because I know I can't not bind but I'm also worried about possible healthproblems this is going to cause me in the future.

Doesn't hurt unless I'm binding for way too long (16+ hours). A cup though. I feel like I could go down a size though and be flatter however I'm starting to like the way my chest looks like I have decent pecs. Now if only I could build decent arms to go with it..

I don't bind unless I go outside somewhere that is not the gym, which isn't often. As soon as I come home, I take it off.

I believe I was an a b or c cup before binding. It's not "comfortable", but it doesn't really hurt (at least not continuously). New binders hurt as they rub my armpits raw. I'm very uncomfortable with my body and have a hard time sleeping so I tend to wear my binder for about 20 hours a day (at least). I do fold my binder at the waist to keep it from doing whatever it wants. Sometimes the seems dig into my waist (this can be 3 or 17 hours into my day) and that ->-bleeped-<-ing hurts. My breathing is restricted which is why it's uncomfortable. I tend to pass out before or instead of properly falling asleep so I have slept in it. I wake up wheezy which leads to a major cough, but not real pain. I know it's bad for me so if I do pass out in it I try to allow 30 minutes of sleep or forced waking uncomfortableness with with my binder off that day. Oh also, in the summer the heat and moisture form underside of things can make my chest very itchy...also wouldn't call it pain, but don't have a problem calling it torture...
I'm 120 lbs and wear an extra small, double front compression shirt from Underworks.

Depends on how long I'm wearing the binder. I can usually bind for a whole day without getting hurt, but sometimes my back gets a bit sore. Not to the point where I feel like I need to take it off though.

No, not usually. I mean, I have to bind all day and my back is sore at the end of the day, but it doesn't exactly "hurt". If anything it's more of an inconvenience.

I've been struggling since I started binding a year ago.  My shoulders and upper back suffer, and I'm not even binding intensely.  I ordered a full-length binder (from LesLoveBoat), and am hoping that helps a bit with the pain (still waiting for it to arrive so I can try it out!).  Unfortunately, I am DDD, so there is a lot to bind.  Also hoping that it will get easier as I lose weight and do strength training.

And yes, I am counting down to the day I get top surgery at the end of this year!
