Title: My roommate SarahEllis is NOT a hillbilly..Back to Indiana - then calif then ?
Post by: Amazon D on July 26, 2011, 10:51:22 AM
She came here without her DL and she thinks she left it in her storage space back in indiana. I had found her a place on long beach island on long island NY but that wasn't ready until sept. She is afraid of winter and thinks Calif is a try and if that doesn't work out she will go to the trans home in Phoenix Az.

She doesn't like washing her clothes by hand and using an outhouse and washing/bathing with hand cloths etc etc .. she is worried the winter will be worse. I am use to it here.

She will go back to indiana and sell off her storgage stuff and get her DL and SS card which is with her DL. She says a friend is going to move to calif in sept so she will move with them. She also says she has to see her endo and another medical Dr.

So its back to me and mom. I will miss her.

gee what should i expect from a 27 yr old sister

boo hoo hoo cry cry cry

I wish her the best, I can understand not really wanting to live like that. I do love my modern conveniences....

But, while I may be a pampered princess at heart, when I was younger I did live like that, an outhouse, manual clothes washing, no TV, fireplace and woodstove, etc. I actually kinda miss it in a way, things were always harder, but it seemed like everyone chipped in and helped each other and talked to each other more.

Heh, I still remember that we had a big metal washtub rather than an actual bathtub, but you know, we still got clean! And growing our own fresh veggies (and we had some chickens) mean we ate pretty well (despite my mothers terrible cooking lol) down here in the rural areas that aren't too far from the Chesapeake Bay fresh crabs were also to be had.

Ah, now I feel nostalgic, makes me want to go till some soil or something lol. In any case hang in there m2 I am sure she will drop by and visit sometime again if nothing else.

Thanks. I needed that. She just left in her car. Yes i can relax not having to worry about feeding the extra mouth and cleaning up after her but i know i will miss it. Its was like having a daughter who needed guidance, but she is a independant soul seeking her own way..  :'(

Hey if your on the east coast near the chesapeake you could come for a visit huh ?   ;D

people often have to go through a lot of different experiences only to find out what they are not, and finding out what they are is even more difficult
give the young ones their freedom to figure out things on their own. it's a useful experience

i'd love to live in a place like the one you live in. or actually i already do, we only got a water heater before last christmas, and we still don't have a shower
until now we've managed with sauna and sparse amounts of water. in dry summers we even washed our clothes by hand. who'd believe we've been living here for 20 years..

Maybe sometime, I live in nearish to DC now in VA, I am really not too far from PA. Last time I was in PA, I went to the Utz Factory, and it smelled so good lol, maybe a visit sometime to the rural parts is called for.

@Taka, did you have a solar water heater setup before, or just none at all? I know I can't deal with a cold shower lol it is surprising though, even in the winter how hot a solar water heater can get.

What is amazing is a friends drier broke and he said that now he had to spend all his quaters at the laundry mat, and when I told him he was crazy because he has nearly an acre that isn't shaded he didn't even understand what I was getting at, it just amazes me that people with yards would spend money to get their clothes dry in the middle of a dry summer.

Well if taka had a suana you would want cold water to pour over you. I use my stove to heat water to wash in winter. I am 55 miles nw of harrisburg between harrisburg and state college off route 322/22 but make sure you bring a friend because its lonely out here. its just me and my 88 yr old mom if you know what i mean. yes dryers are crazy in any time of yr but hey people just are spoiled.

Sarah.

I understand thast the feelings you've expressed are your own. But do you reall think that it is productive to harbour these?

I alos am sorry, but I don't agree. I believ, completely, that you have been through a lot and are finding it difficult to settle down with the sort of home spun comforts that are found in countryside USA.

It's gonna take time, ages, to get use to being important. You just need to give your brain time to catch up with the realities of what M2 and others are giving willingly. Because they like you.

@hikari: a wood stove works wonders when it comes to heating water..

@sarah: you're just having a bad time, don't be so hard on yourself. i love you, and i think many others here do too, so there's no need to leave. you being here has only given me more love in my heart, even if you don't feel too helpful right now you have helped me at least with this
