Before I go on, just know I'm not dissing anyone by describing my own observations below. I'm just really curious about this topic and especially since many of us didn't get to grow up being treated as male/living as male in our earlier lives I often wonder if something like perceived notions of how to act, dress, talk, BE male in society might be slightly off and add to creation (or co-opting) of styles? Then again, what makes some cis guys choose a style like "douche" and run with it? lol I'm not taking a serious approach to this topic because I do think people should be able to express themselves however they want, but whenever one does that, they have to realize that the rest of society will most likely treat them a certain way because of it. That's just the way it is. I've been called emo before, even though I'm not just because people saw certain things about my style and applied those to previous things they've seen and associated with that term. If you really, really love wearing baggy pants half way off your ass that are 5 sizes to big for you, more power to you, but you're gonna catch some slack from somewhere because of it. In order to rock a style that you are seriously in-tune with and you don't even care if it's a stereotype then you have to be able to let comments roll off you too.
I followed some vid links recently that led me to a channel on youtube with a bunch of FTMs talking about certain topics of the week or something like that. Anyway, this one guy was doing the total "wigger" "gangster" schtick. I'm pretty sure it wasn't an act - like he literally wanted to be that way. Hey that's cool, I'm one of those people that is pretty open to whatever someone wants to do that isn't hurting someone else, but I just really wonder about super stylized (basically stereotypes) like that and why people decide to do that. Like they have a list they're checking off: sideways hat [check], air jordans [check], over sized b-ball attire [check], latest Lil' Wayne CD [check], signs with hands [check], lingo [check] ... you know what I mean? Now I'm not just picking on that dude in particular, this can be any style. Emo kid, punker, skater, whatever it is.
I once knew this (cis)guy that would change his whole persona about once every 6 months. First he was a redneck into guns and hunting, then it was a biker (biker gang type, then that morphed into the crotch-rocket type), then a wigger who wanted to play b-ball and rap all the time, then he got all into golf, and then diving ... the dude was just insane! I mean it just spun my head. The more I talked to him, the more it seemed he was so desperately trying to be "cool" in the eyes of some peer group that he was willing to do anything - throw himself 110% into the far end of whatever his latest kick was and then drop it as soon as people started making fun of him (which did happen because, yeah, when you try that hard and go that far off the deep end, they will). Much later on I discovered that he came from a family that never really paid attention to him at all - so he was always doing things to GET attention. Total correlation there imo!
With the proliferation of reality tv, it seems being a douche bag is the new "in" thing as well. Like why would you want to strive to be a douche bag?
People can say style is a very personal thing but I think a lot of times it actually isn't. People are often patterning their "personal" styles after other people they like/admire, etc. or the peer group they hang with (or want to hang with) in order to feel more accepted and gain approval ... to "be cool".
So having said all that, what's your style? And don't worry, like I said, I'm not out to diss anyone, just want to hear your own take on why it is you do what you do and look the way you do.
For me? I've been through a number of styles but none have strayed too far from the core style of what I like to call "eclectic". Yeah, it's just like the furniture people who have a mishmash of styles from contemporary to antique and can't decide on a specific thing so they call it eclectic and somehow make it work. I absolutely love my skinny jeans (the typical "emo" trademark), but I like argyle sweaters too. I like vintage stuff, buy I like uber contemporary modern stuff like Tokyo Flash watches. My goal has always been to be a little different. Even when I was in school I learned early on I was never going to be a part of the popular crowd or any other clique (couldn't even get in with the A/V kids or the band crowd! lol) so I was just kinda left to do my own thing. And you bet I've had some major influences along the way - people I've admired their style and "borrowed" one or two things to suit my own purposes and make me happy. But I think the end result is more uniquely me than if I had a check list for a "type" I was going for.
Thoughts?
I'm from a fairly low-key, outdoorsy city, and pretty much everyone wears jeans/shorts, a t-shirt, and athletic shoes. It works well for me. :)
I definitely see what you mean here. I notice it everywhere though, in the trans community as well as amongst cis people (particularly young/teenage or pre-teen men). In some ways it can almost be like they're trying to find out what does work for them, or in some cases it's an effort to fit in in some way or something along those lines.
I agree though: to each their own. It is kind of interesting, however.
My personal style? Hm, well, for the most part I prefer jeans and a button-up with the sleeves rolled. That seems to be what I'm most comfortable wearing. In cooler weather I also like sweatshirts (sometimes pull-over hooded, sometimes zip-up hooded, sometimes zip-up with a standing collar), zip-up collared sweaters, and jackets of various kinds, but nothing that really draws attention (just because I'm not drawn to things like that, not because I want to blend in or anything) -- though I do have a sweet leather and canvas jacket with various patches and rivets and pins that I love, especially for it's Che patch. I also, more often than not, wear a hat of some kind because I like them and my eyes are sensitive to the sun. If I didn't wear glasses, I'd have a collection of aviators, too. For footwear it totally varies: on hot days I like to wear sandals to help keep cool, but I've been wearing my Adidas sneakers a lot, and still like wearing my boots. Admittedly I also like wearing dress shoes from time to time, but I like to experiment with those; for example, I currently have a pair of rich tan leather and suede shoes, and I have a thing for a nice pair of wingtip shoes even though I don't own a pair...yet.
I'd love to rock suits, at least casual suits, once I've lost a bit more weight and/or feel that I would fill one out better. I think that is a sharp look.
I'm not really sure what to call my style, to be honest.
For style ideas or inspirations or whatever I like magazines like Esquire and the such, and sometimes pull from them though I can't really say I exactly match what's there. There's a bit of eclecticism to my style at times as well, and I like to pull from different things without going too far into a totally different style. Just incorporate something here or there. I'd really like to incorporate suspenders or a waistcoat with totally casual attire at some point -- we'll see.
I've gone through different styles, so to speak, but never really anything definitive. I've just chalked it up to trying to find my own style, and I think I've found it with what I have now. I've kind of sort of stumbled upon it from trying different things and then keeping what works or what I like. Really, it's sort of just evolved on its own in a way.
I don't follow styles really, if I see a piece of clothing I like, I buy it. Simple as that. If you wanna call it mixing styles or whatever, then so be it, but I've rarely ever followed a certain style or trend except for maybe a couple short phases. Pants: I like straight leg-slim fitting-skinny jeans; Shorts: surfer style shorts, some cargo, board shorts, dockers, dickies. I love my shorts. Shirts: All kinds of t shirts except for ones with cartoons on it (unless its a comic book character lol), plaid, polos, v necks, button ups(short and long sleeve). And anything that has White Sox or Chicago Bears on it. And I love my hats, specifically 59 fifty New Era hats.

the typical "emo" trademark
Side note: Skinny jeans were mostly worn by skaters before "emo" kids took over...cuz the actual and traditional emo kids didn't wear skinnies, it wasn't really until the scene happened.
Whats funny is I was questioning the same thing about how fellow FTM's carry themselves.. Idk how to say this without sounding like an overconfident douche but I have been part of the "popular" clique. And it had influenced my style, I have to admit. I've always been a skater but recently drifted away from that amazing hobby. I went from a skin tight pants and skater shirts phase, to an abercrombie and fitch, hollister phase. Now I am kind of in between but definitely have dropped the SKIN TIGHT jeans. I stick with straight leg now. Definately love the levis! I'm usually in a skate brand shirt, A&F, Hollister, or even Polo shirts. It depends on where I'm going. I like having a nice watch on and love hats but I know I'll really look like a lesbian with a fitted cap on.. I'm not masculine enough to pull it off without getting overly noticed so I've been avoiding them until I start T. But yeah! That's pretty much it. Honestly, I really care about the way I look and am up to date with the latest fashion.. It's just who I am! But I don't judge(or try not to!) anyone else who isn't.. TOO ridiculous in my opinion. I keep it to myself anways :p
My "style" depends on the situation. It is meant to be functional, yet allow me to go "damn, I look good" if I happen to catch a glimpse of my reflection somewhere.
For example, at school and at work, I wear nice jeans (without rips or other types of decorations), a button-up and/or sweater, and non-slip chemical and oil resistant boots, with a lab coat and goggles as well for work. If it happens to be really hot, then a polo of either solid or stipped pattern will be the upperbody garment of choice.
If I am just going to the store or nowhere really, then jeans or shorts with either a t-shirt, tank, or sweatshirt are alright. If I am going out for exercise or walking the dog at high noon on a 30 degree day where the persperation starts the minute you think about going outside, then it is basketball shorts, an A-shirt, and activity-appropriate footwear for me (though the shirt usually comes off to mop the sweat from my face when this is the case).
All garments are close-fitted, but not tight. Optimum range of motion and safety are the goals when it comes to fit; the fact that well-fitting clothes makes for a nicer figure is a pleasant bonus. All garments are also clean and in good condition. I do make an effort to make sure colors match and are complimentary to my coloration.
As to why I picked it: practicality, safety, and pride in my appearance.
Well since everything looks better on tall people, I don't think anything looks good on me being short & fat. I've been wearing army style pants & band shirts since high school, so, about the last 20 years.
If I could get significantly smaller, but in reality, I've got a ton of muscle underneath, so I'm short & thick no matter what. But I'd like to be able to look good in things like the coat & boots in this video: Unheilig - Sage Ja (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NS4UbYdBZE#)
I wear baggy shorts and jeans and T-shirts with the occasional button-up. Not sure what that would be.
I gave up on style changes when I was in high school......now I am what I am at any given moment....

Not necessarily true. It requires more work and attention to detail, but there are clothes that look great on short people (and in turn make short people look great). As someone who is of a much shorter build than most people in my area, I have much experience in this matter. You want to look as streamlined as possible, so that the eye can travel smoothly from your shoes to your face without being distracted. Pick vertical stripes over horizontal since vertical stripes tend to draw the eye to move up and down to follow the pattern. Wear dark pants and a lighter shirt rather than the oposite configuration so that the eyes move from toes to head rather than from head to toes. Do not wear a belt that stands out; it cuts your figure in half, and thus makes you appear shorter.
There are many tips and tricks you can incorporate into your wardrobe to make your clothes look good on you, no matter what your build. It just might take a little more effort for those of us who are not average.
I don't know what my style is and I never consciously picked one. I just wear what's comfortable. I like button ups, preferably silk or something soft. I prefer pants over jeans. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person in the world that isn't crazy about hoodies. I find the hood annoying. Rather just have a collar.
All you guys style is very similar. Mines sorta different. I kinda dress emo/goth.
Ive got purple and black hair. Its got red and blue in it too.
I dress mainly in pair of raggy looking jeans and a black tee.
Sometimes blue tee. Really my dress sense is crap and has always been but its mainly down the gothy emo route.
Clothes never really meant much to me but that just seems to be the dress sense I came too.
Reason I dress like that is because It was always the type of stuff that made me feel good wearing when I was presenting as female most of the time and really when Im presenting male I dress like that but more masculine. *shrugs*
i've been told that i dress like a pothead. not that i try to use my clothes to advertise that i smoke to the whole world, but the fact that people can just "spot" me by what i wear.
usually i wear carpenter jeans or old straight cut jeans with tshirts and sometimes flannels. if it's hot.. well i guess now i will wear those skater man tank tops. never could before /shrug/ i wear skate shoes or old nikes 99% of the time unless it's inappropriate for the situation (like dressing up.) and speaking of dressing up, save a few tragic misfortunes i've had when i began delving into the world of mens clothing, i think i can do it quite well. so i don't look like a complete derelict all the time. when i want or need to look nice, i do. i own plenty of ralph lauren and such to get me through those occasions.. sweaters, polos, etc and a nice summer suit. i'm getting a dark grey suit for more formal occasions when i head up to school. montreal has world-famous tailors.
I like to wear suits with either Dr. Marten or tennis shoes when I go out.
If I am just bumming around the home, it is jeans and t-shirt normally.
Until I have surgery, I love any excuse for a coat, especially long coats that hid hips and the chest. I have a feeling this may make a huge shift after surgery though since I have learned over the years how to hide things and now I can actually start enjoying life without being noticed.
I'm a jeans, black t-shirt, and a plaid button-up with rolled up sleeves kind of guy. I do a lot of my shopping from Buckle/BKE - it was the first store I went into where I bought men's clothing, so I have a soft spot for it. I'll usually scope out the website and then go to JcPenney or some other store and try to find what I want sans the expensive designer label. I usually wear Boys skate shoes, since I have tiny feet (Size 6 in Boys). They're cheap and cost half of what men's shoes do.
I usually just rock graphic ts and jeans, or a button-down. I dunno what you'd call my style .... poor and cheap? I shop at thrift stores and like I said, I go for ts and jeans, and denim or leather jackets. I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to my impression on people. They probably think I'm lame. :P
My style mostly consists of button-down shirts that are either solid colored or have 60s-and-70s-esque patterns (like florals and paisley, but nothing too loud and ridiculous), straight-legged/skinny pants, double-breasted overcoats or blazers, and pointy boots or oxford shoes. I like a lot of black, but colors work too (I have a velvet purple trench coat with gold buttons that I wore every day during winter when I was a high-school freshman). Sometimes I like scarves and ties and other things, or vests, but basically that's it. I guess my style could be called "vintage." I've always looked up to 60s/70s rockers and old-timey "dandies" as Fashion Inspiration, so naturally I've kind of modeled my style after those types of people. I don't think what I do could really fall into any stereotype, except maybe Hipster. Although I don't wear a lot of Ironic T-Shirts.
I wouldn't necessarily say I have some specific style that I adhere to... Although my main rule is that I've got to be able to move around in it without any trouble. A while ago when I had attempted to wear feminine clothes I had this problem where I didn't feel like I could do anything but sit and stand, so I've never gone back to that haha...
Anyways, generally for me I buy dark colored slim/straight cut jeans. As mentioned above, if I buy lighter jeans they make me look short and emphasize the hip area in general. As far as shirts go... Generally t-shirts have some sort of design on them or superhero (but not those cheesy joke ones). Also I wear a bunch of plaid button shirts. In addition to that I've got shirts/pants that give off slight "emo" vibes but I just mix them in to what I already have going. I've also got a few cardigans and a pair of "parachute pants" which give off feminine vibes but I wear them anyway since I like them. I wear Converse and Dr. Martens boots... Basically I'll wear anything I see and like and know will look okay on my short figure. The "style" originated from trial and error of previously attempting to wear really tight skinny jeans, or just things in general that either restricted movement or made me feel uncomfortable.

Off topic, but...that guy's voice sounds
really familiar. Do you know whether he has been in any other bands? Or does he just sound like someone in another band? Unfortunately I can't even think of which band, but I might be able to track it down...or should I just look into it myself?
Apologies for all the questions: it's late so I figured I'd ask since I won't get a good chance to look until tomorrow evening.
Thanks for all the responses guys! Seems a lot of you kinda do what I do and pick and choose from a variety of styles.
My sports/recreation directly effects my identity. If you asked me who I am I would go "Student, BMXer, Snowboarder" and that def shows in my style. I have some brand loyalty and just it shows in my wardrobe, haha. It's funny because even though it's super early for me I've been thinking I might actually make my Masters' thesis about the effects of sports and recreation on identity/style . It also effects the way I talk, like if I was with friends or people I ride with, an outsider might not be able to understand me, but when I talk to other people I talk totally normal.
I employ the style of cool. :icon_2gun:
I don't know what you'd call my style.
I admit, I'm the type to change my look depending on my mood, but never drastically.
I prefer slimmer fitting jeans, t-shirts (plain white or black, band or skate shirts), Flannel shirts, hoodies, skate shoes.
I'm usually wearing a cap, and it's usually a skate or sporting brand. Both flat and peaked varieties.
I guess overall it might be a little "skater"ish. Probably because I've been skating since I was 6 years old.
There are times when I may dress up for certain events, say a leather event, or a concert. It's situational.
I'd have to say, when I think back to it my style has varied so much over a short period of time. In beginning of High School, I was a casual dresser presenting as female. Wearing bagging shirts, character shirts, things of that nature. Never any sort of fixed up or nice. After I started to learn about myself, when I realized I didn't have friends, and got into my super depressed stages and hating the world I went toward the goth style. I stayed that way for a few years before I finally opened up my range, started to venture into the "skater" style. Skinny jeans fit better, and look better on me. I like hats but I have a small head so brims tend to be rather large and annoying. So it takes a while before I find a hat I'm comfortable with. I mostly wear beanie hats, knit hats. I started getting more graphic tees, that turned back into character t-shirts, cartoon, anime, video games shirts, to a small collection of skate shirts, flannel shirts, multiple jackets. A new obsession with thermals. All in all, I think some parts of my original "style" still exists, but it evolves and changes over time as I change.
At the moment, I'd say I'm more of a hybrid hipster-nerd. For some reason, I've never been able to get away from the "nerd" aspect of my personality and style. But I do think my style has been influenced by the people, the course of my life, and how I feel about myself. I think many things play into how we present ourselves to the public.
"Lazy goth" is my style, I suspect. I like to wear military-style pants and black band shirts. A pair of Underground boots, steel toe, looks kickass. A long, grey trenchcoat that makes me look like I'm a WW1 soldier, according to my father. And black hoodies. I've been dressing this way since middle school. I don't like pants that are too tight, I prefer to have freedom of movement, and the same goes for shirts. However, I'm looking to incorporate more colour into my wardrobe, and I adore paisley patterned things. I would also like to incorporate more late 19th or early 20th century influences, since people knew how to dress back then. I've been wearing mostly all-black since I was 12 or so.
My personality is, well... I'm pretty nerdy, and not good at social interaction. So I suppose I express it as a socially awkward nerd. Despite my black clothes and serious facial expression, I'm quite friendly. I listen to music almost constantly, so an iPod is also part of my "look", I guess. People tend to think I'm in my 20's but I'm not. I wish I was taller, and I need to become less chubby (chub is cherubic, but it doesn't fit me).
Not sure where you are from but here the word 'wigger' hasn't been used in about at least 6 or 7 years. It's considered highly offensive but 'gangster' is what they're called.
I've been pinned as gangster, skater, stoner, emo or douchebag over the years. I guess I am a bit of a douchebag now if we're just talking purely on looks. All my shirts, shoes and hats I wear has to have some sort of expensive design, logo or brand on it (not bands though). And as you can tell I like to take douchey pictures of myself a lot hahahah.
But I don't act like a douchebag.
Cardigans with t-shirt.
Hoodies!
Plaid shirts or just plain shirts with a vest :D
I like to look neat, or just simple..
Like Justin Bieber haha
Calling people douchebags just because of how they dress is dumb.
There are some hardcore basketball fans, most are black men but there are obviously others who love it. Just check out Franalation's vids on Jordans.
Most of them are gangsters though. Oversized fitted caps are clear signs of posers.
well, I just wear whatever I feel like, some people call me emo, some said I should turn goth, and sometimes I get inspired by punk or find something casual shirts for sale.
I guess mainly im casual and still I dont think my clothes always apeal to be "casual" specially not when I dress up as I love too, or wear some of my cat ears cap or anything like that..
if I had to categories my style I would say "Drama" its a team I made up myself because I dress up as I feel like,
somethimes I look pretty normal, somethimes my clothes are more outgoing..
somethimes im dressed, blue blue blue and NEON PINK, somethimes its just black and red.
Not to overreact or anything but I'm quite shocked you seem so comfortable and relaxed in using the term "W*****r", judging by the times you used it in this post. The word is no different to the N word, the W word offends both black and white people. "You are a w***** because you are acting black = gangsta/thug"? Very offensive especially to black people, by removing a N and replacing with W doesnt change what you are impying. And white people too would just like the hip hop style.
You probably didnt realise this, but it is. I bet a lot of people on this site wouldn't tolerate the T word.

I've come across this situation before. In some areas the term is (highly) offensive and in others it is completely not. I'm going to give the OP benefit of the doubt and say he comes from a background where it's just another word and may not know any different. My brother who is Australian had NO idea why I was offended the first time he called me a c*nt.
i dont really have a stereotypical style i wear what looks best on me skinny jeans, "athletic fit" shirts from target, hoodies from billabong or another surf type brand and i wear slim fit button downs always with the sleeves rolled up. i tend to wear vans and other "fashionable" skater type shoes. i generally wear blue and neutral colors as red is to bright purple is to fem and i hate orange yellow and green.

I'd have to agree with this. I don't find the term to be offensive, what so ever. I've been to many different places in the states, and I've never heard anyone getting offended by the term. "Gangster" just makes me want to laugh for some reason.
I guess I'm out of it because I never heard the term before this thread.
Summer/spring, I wear cargo shorts or flat front dress shorts, and a polo or graphic tee. I wear stuff from Hollister, AE, Aero, Express, A&F, that kinda stuff. Usually just wear leather flip flops. Sometimes rock a pair of Puma's.
Winter/fall, I stick with slim straight jeans. Shirts could be polos/tees, v-neck or quarter zip sweaters, hoodies, or long sleeved button ups with the sleeves rolled up. Either wear black combat boots or brown dress shoes. I also have a really nice black pea coat that I love, but it picks up pet hair like nothing I've ever seen!
Mostly, I go back and forth between "normal teenage guy" and "early twenties trying to look professional". I've been called preppy before also. I don't really know what you'd call me haha.
well offended words depends on people, place and who said it and there meaning..
in generally I don't think any words are necessarily offending it depends on how it get out.
I use a lot of words who could be offended as well.
I'm such a boring dresser it seems. I wear shorts, pants, or jeans depending on the weather and occasion. I also wear polos, plain t-shirts (no logos, bands, etc), and button-down shirts in various colors. Colors..mostly black, brown, grey, navy, and khaki. Some green, white, and red as well.
I don't think that's a style really. For the most part, I just try to look decent and match/coordinate my colors.
I suppose if I were to categorize my likes in clothing, I will describe them in these words:
Goth. Steampunk. Hippie. Skater. Emo. Gothic Lolita. Victorian. Anime-nerd-ish-style-thingy...yeah? ??? ::)
I rock striped socks, striped ties, dark skinny jeans, black nail polish, vests, brightly colored hair dye/wigs/extensions, boots of all kinds, converse sneakers, small chains, chibi animal hats that I buy from anime conventions, my spiked collar, silver/white gold jewelry, and fishnet gloves. :P
I listen to like 40% metal and 60% ebm/electroncia but I dress like a metaller pretty much. And it's been that way since I was allowed to choose what I wore, so before I came out too. I like the look for me and on others. So I wear lots of heavy badass rings, leather wrist stuff and band shirts/ leather jackets, and doc martins. I just bought some kickass boots with metal shin-guards on them :D but I'm really lacking in trousers. I have like 4 pairs of jeans and 1 pair of shorts :/ the jeans don't really go with my style but it's not easy to find that kind of trouser ''style''.
On the other side I love to wear my suit or dress smart/ suave. So the jeans, a black shirt tucked in, a purple overshirt deal and a blazer with good shoes works for me too. I need to expand my wardrobe but I'm a student so heh I deal with what I got. Haven't bought a new item of clothing in ages, these new shoes are a huge deal haha
I don't really have a style. i usually wear darker clothes, but i dress mostly for comfort, im not talking sweat pants and nasty T shirts, but I mean khaki pants, cargo pants, military fatigues, and button down flannel and plaid shirts etc. I usually wear hoodies and jackets, but it has been too hot
once the fall comes around I will look more stylish, cause in the summer im forced to wear shorts and just shirts, I prefer a more layered look
I don't dress too colorful either, usually black, grey, dark green, dark blue, brown, I think the most colorful thing I own is a purple shirt lol

I'm from Los Angeles. People calling themselves or their style "Gangster" seems even more amusing to me. I knew actual gangsters - like ones with teardrop tats and hard time under their belts. Seriously, when I see a kid around where I live now dressing or acting like that and behaving like they're "hard" I just want to magically transport them to maybe somewhere in East L.A. or South Central ... maybe around Eastern & Gage and see how long they last walking out of there. It's not a fashion statement or style down there - you look the "wrong" way or wear the "wrong" thing or even say the "wrong" thing you could be in some serious ->-bleeped-<-. I'm sure there's plenty of cities all over the place where rules like that would apply, but young, totally white kids who've never been exposed to city life like that and just co-opt the style don't exactly get it.
It's like the kids on Jersey Shore thinking they're some hard ass Italians. Let me tell you, I come from a long line of some serious Italians and those kids are just jokes LOL. That's what I meant by having a style like that - people are going to perceive it a certain way. In the case of your "gangsters" it could even get them in a lot of trouble in certain areas.
People who don't know me who do see me as male probably think I'm gay just because of some of the stuff I wear. Just like people probably DO think you're a douchebag even though you're not just because of the stuff you wear. That's what I meant by if you adopt certain styles you just have to live with those perceptions. Still, I wouldn't go into East L.A. dressed as a "gangster".
I could never understand subcultures like scene, emo, punk, goth, etc... Although I love the goth look, especially Victorian. I think I'd make an awesome Victorian Goth drag queen sometime after T. ;D
For the most part... most of my shirts are black. XD I love black clothes. I wear my fedora with everything. If I'm trying to look nice/less black-clothing, I enjoy polo shirts (mostly because I can get away without binding in them XD). I loooooove button-downs, especially with ties. I think cardigans are adorable, thus enjoy them immensely. I like cute clothes, if they don't make me look too "girly", just "femme gay dude". XD I like regular jeans, skinny jeans, and black shorts. I am the only dude at school who wears black shorts, everyone else wears those weird tan cargo short-things with hollister/aeropostale/InsertOtherGiantLogoHere shirts and Nikes. I think it's ugly. I like my vans and boots.
I get a lot of stuff from Thrift shops. My rule for thrift shops is "avoid normal. if you can get it anywhere else, don't buy it." Which is why I own a fairly andro looking suit which was very cheap and two "fake native american" button-downs that I think are hilarious. I wear plaid button-downs open over most of my shirts. Graphic shirts are epic. ♥
I love stuff like girly belts. XD They're cute. And I love rainbows. I don't really accessorize. Does a watch and hat count?
I dress for comfort, and to look, I guess, "cute, but still a-okay to be around a bunch of dudes and not look TOO weird". lol. I didn't really pick my style, I just wear what appeals to me. Sometimes I wear a bunch of black with splotches of color, other times I wear light-colored jeans and light shirts. Whatever appeals to me that day.
I have no name for this. "Things That Appeal to Silas. Disclaimer: Things may or may not appeal to everyone / all Silases. Silas cares not a wink."
Pretty much from the time I was 10, I was looking up to guys like Alice Cooper and Ozzy. I love my eyeliner, when I'm in the mood for it. Right now, I'm rocking black nail polish because I feel like it. My look changes depending on the weather, and my mood.
Generally, what I'm (stuck) in lately is baggy shorts, chucks and a hoodie. I wear black hoodies (mainly) because I haven't found many ones with prints around here that don't have a gigantic logo on them, and that's one thing I flat-out refuse to wear. Unless it's a band I like, I'm not wearing anyone else's name on me. I'm not a goddamn billboard, and that's something that's stuck with me for practically forever.
My..."ideal" (?) look is all over the place, though. Generally, I'm a jacket person. As soon as it's cold enough, I'm addicted to my trench coat. It's comfy as hell, covers my chest perfectly and, lets just face it...trenches are badass. When it's not that, it's my leather, or my mini-trench. The mini-trench is funny, because it's actually a girl's coat, but it has buttons on both sides so technically could be worn either way. Personally, I don't give a damn. It covers my chest, I have no "shape" for it to cling to, and it's super light. So, on cooler days like yesterday, I'll be stomping around in military combat boots, that jacket, tight-ish jeans and whatever t-shirt underneath. Shirts, unfortunately, don't matter much to me because binding (usually) doesn't do nearly enough. I'm stuck always wearing some kind of outerwear if I'm out of the house.
Some days, I go all out. A few weeks ago while I was feeling particularly "To hell with everyone, I'm gonna be ->-bleeped-<-tastic" I wore buttloads of eyeliner and eyeshadow, fishnet and the whole nine yards. Generally? Just a hoodie, jeans and boots or converse. Winter's more fun for me, because I can do a hell of a lot more. Pretty hard (and uncomfortable) to wear combat boots and a leather jacket in the summer/early spring.
I didn't pick my style, it comes naturally to me. Kind of a mix of hip-hop and skate fashion.
