On Wednesday night in the pouring rain I finally came out to my best friend, like I've been threatening to for ages now. And she was awesome about it ;D.
OK now for the backstory - a month or so ago I told her I had some really big news after a night out. I said it was the kind of news to be delivered in person not by text or facebook or even phone. But then due to internship commitments on both our parts we hadn't seen each other since. We finally met up on Wednesday with loads of other people we're in uni with for a few drinks, which turned into a mini pub crawl :P
During the night she mentioned that I still haven't told her this "big secret", and she was worried that maybe someone in my family was sick or something. After we left the last pub everyone went their separate ways and we walked in the rain a short distance. (for anyone familiar with Dublin we ended up under Merchant's Arch).
Then after a lot of staring at my shoes and trying to choke out the words (I really didn't know the best way to say it) I just kind of blurted out, "So I think I might be transexual... well actually I know I feel that way". Her first response was just "wow... wow that is not what I expected". From there we talked about it for about an hour and she was so great about everything. I feel that a giant cliched weight has been lifted and I grin like an eejit every time I think about it.
Thanks for reading that rambling story (if you got this far :P )
Claire
Congrats Claire, looks like you have a true friend.
Sounds like that went very well-it is scary when we start telling folks we like what is going on. Good for you!
LOL I haven't heard anybody say the were like an 'eejit' for many years-my dad used to call me that when I was little.
Randi
Thanks guys, it was the best outcome I could have hoped for :)
Randi I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess your dad's Irish then? We have the best slang terms over here :P
He's not pure Irish but we got alot of 'Ire' in our family tree!! Yes we still use several terms that came from there. Funny how things don't change even after several generations have passed.
That's great. :D It's amazing how much harder it is to say it out loud than to think/type it. In person is really the best way though certainly not the easiest. Way to go!
That's great.
I think we sometimes worry too much. I'm out to everyone and not a single person has rejected me.
Reminds me of a very old song.
In Dublin fair city
Where the girls are so pretty

Yeah face to face is the best way to go if at all possible, it would just feel kind of cheap to do it any other way when you could stand in front of the person instead. At least for the people closest to you.
She has since told another close friend of ours (with my permission) the two of them are almost identical, personality wise, who also said she is fully behind me :) . This means that no matter what else happens from here I have 2 real friends which means so very much.
Ahh Cindy I've spent years trying to forget that song. They made us learn that and a few others off by heart in school years ago :P
Fantastic! :D
I just told my best friend two days ago and like Cindy said, we often worry too much for no reason. A true friend will support us no matter what, which is exactly what mine said. I think it also helps to be relaxed, and humourous while telling them. And I'll also say that confidence certainly helps a lot!
Oh, and I'm third-generation Irish, but my family and I still say eejit. :)

Haha, we are slowly taking over the world. Muhahaha >:-) .
That's so great Madi, it really does seem such a non-issue when people we count on take it as well as that. And I must agree with the humour post, making all the same stupid jokes we always made really lightened the mood. Liquid confidence was the kind I used :P
