Totally not sure if this is the correction section to post this in. I was planning on changing my name at the end of the year, however I came across a home for sell that I can afford. I haven't completely decided in buying the place, the price is very tempting. One hand I wouldn't be throwing money towards rent but towards equity, but on the other hand I am not tied to location, which means making a move is easier to accomplish if need to move to a different location if needed, well I don't about painless but you know what I mean :P Enough of me rambling on, my question is if I get a mortgage in my current name, would it be a pain in the butt to change later on to the name I plan on changing too later on this year? Any answers/experience regarding this would help. Also I am sorry once again if this is the wrong area to post this question.

I'm no lawyer, but the name issue should be no real consideration.
Changing your name does not release you from any obligations (like a mortgage).
If there were a will with <old name> in it, but you had already changed to <new name> you should have no problem in getting your inheritance.
You might have to go through a few more hoops to show that you were the person intended.
Under the law, the intent is the biggie.

Tap, tap, tap, let's see what comes up, eh.
I'm also interested from the German perspective as a small inheritance is pending as is a name change... if EVER that will happen... Berlin Schöneberg here I come.
It seems the most incredible schlep for us GR citizens to get that done.
Also, I hear: no more temporary passports by our Embassy, so no change for a Permanent SA Resident. The list is disheartening.
The mortgage issue mentioned also applies for me, more sooner then later -- but in SA.
I guess common sense tells me it be easier to get a new "Title deed" (new purchase) in my new name then trying to change it later on.

Totally understand the whole obligation thing :)Don't want loose a mortgage over a name change especially considering the price is literally a steal. Guess I was trying to figure how soon the credit report and stuff would take effect. This part I have no clue about.
Totally hope that makes sense.
