Post by: Lucy on February 14, 2007, 12:09:34 PM
As many of you know I was up all last night, unable to sleep, and I finaly decided to make the first steps. Looking for a theropist. Well this morning I found 2 people who work in the same clinic not to far from here. A PSYCHIATRISTS and PSYCHOTHERAPISTS. Lets wait and see if they will see me.

Fingers crossed...

Lucy, so go to the GP. He/she will probably do the referral without a problem, as he/she won't want to deal with it! LOL! Truly, I bet you will be treated just fine, and get the proper referral you need. Here in the states, I had a different route. I found the right person to go to, and went, then got insurance to agree to pay for it! Took some doing and many phone calls, LOL! Thank goodness I live in a reasonably TG friendly place, at least parts of here!
Hugs!

Tara.
I will, dont you worry about that it just many things worry me. At ther moment "SO" doesnt know what IO am going throu, she iscausing me a lot of heart ake at the moment. May be its just me. (im unreasonable at the moment acording to her). My GP is not an easy person to talk to. They have a group practice so I could end up with any one and that means I could have the old coger that was born in the stone age and doesnt know what a TS is.

I will make the opintment and try and get them to phone me.

Keep trying....
Owww. I feel sick, i need someone to talk to. Thìs is to much for me. HELP...   I just phoned my gp and they said to call back monday and they will see me. Im going mad. May b i should tell 'SO'. Please someone tell me what to do....

Have patience Lucy.  You'll get there as long as you keep trying.  Better to get there calmly than anxious and frustrated.  Certain things you can't control and you just have to accept them.

Your SO may not know what you're going through because you haven't told her everything.  Maybe she can help you if you let her.  Good luck on your search.  And you can always come here and discuss things.  If you want to keep it private use the "Just For Us" section.

Lucy,

In general, we go throgh our GP's as well here in the States.  It's part of the gig.

THe important thing is that you took the first step!  You want and need to tak things over with a speciaist.  Have your GP make the appointment for you.

Congratulations on taking this first step.

You of course have the choice.

Your GP can write a referal to see a Private Physchiatrist.

Appointments are normally in a month (or less) took 2 weeks for me.

Cost is about 150 pound for an hour session. I had 4 sessions in 1  1/2 years.

Leicester and Nottingham are both near you. Leicester is at the Nuffield Hospital and Nottingham at the Stonefield Centre. Leicester is a guy called Deneesh Khoosal, Nottingham is Brian Ferguson.

Sheffield have a good centre as well at the Porterbrooke, Kevan Wylie is the Phsych there, he did my 2nd refereal letter.

I got the HRT prescription on my first visit, which I had my GP convert to an NHS prescription.

I had counselloring with a local PCT counsellor, the Physchiatrists visits ehere to check progress and basically open the door for SRS letters.
