Hey, I'm attending a GLBTQ camp this year as a youth leader since I've been to it once before. Two other guys and myself are doing the transgender 101 workshop...the adult staff were supposed to help us, but it seems we are going to be left to figure it out amongst ourselves before camp in 9 days. We already know that we can put in the general q and a and definitions and stuff, as well as personal experiences. But Does anyone here have any ideas on what else we could do for it? Any way to make it a little bit more fun? I'd really appreciate any input anybody has. Thanks! :)
Maybe some of the videos here?

Kyle , let me see if I have this correct ............. You're going to have a "Camp " for all these people in one place , right ? Gosh, I dunno, have a sit down and define what makes each one , ( Gay, Bi, Trans , and whatever ) . Find out why the Trans wish to hang with Gays too. Then heres one ............. Find out why so many Gay people are SCARED to death of US Trans people too ! ellen

Yes, it is a 4 day GLBTQ camp. Have you had very negative experiences with the other parts of the community? It just sounds like you're being sarcastic and mean in this comment. I know we can define things. Not a problem, but I'm not gonna stand up and ask other youth why they have a problem with us, when in fact, the particular ones there probably don't. The point of the camp is to be an inclusive and safe place for all of us. Not to pick on each other. Some do have a problem, but not all.....And I think there is nothing wrong with trans folk to have a connection to the community. After all, not all of us are straight either. Case in point, one of the guys doing this with us is a gay FTM.
Sounds like the sort of gathering that will attract tolerant and accepting people anyway.
There is a Julia Serrano video I saw here in the last couple of days about her marriage which survived transition. Funny but informative too.
Karen.

Kyle , I'm way serious as to asking a Gay person why they perceive all Trans people as wierd , crazy and are scared . I would just like to hear their answers ........... ellen

I don't know that there could be a question that stereotypes any more than what you propose Kyle to ask...I don't remember the last time I had a gay or lesbian person express such a sentiment (and I would have expected to have heard it if they were going to given that few people know my history).
This is an excellent youtube series on the medical needs of the transsexual person that covers and discusses the causes and impact of the gender dysphoria as well as medical transition options.
Part 1 - The Medical needs of a Transsexual individual (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5UTy7QsGl0#)
Part 2 - The Medical needs of a Transsexual individual Part 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0fehkzLUjg#)
Part 3 - The Medical needs of a Transsexual individual Part 3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mckSn5lz8h8#)
Part 4 - The Medical needs of a Transsexual individual part 4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5Ly924fxKs#)
Part 5 - The Medical needs of a Transsexual individual part 5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jfb5rzEpk4#)
I would not recommend the youtube series posted. I like this...

Trans 101 usually focuses on binary id'd people, masculine men, feminine women, and trans people who fit the mainstream trans narrative.
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!
