Title: Anyone go to Mazzoni center?
Post by: Sharky on August 12, 2011, 04:58:36 PM
Just want to hear what some peoples experiences are, especially if you started T there.

And if you've gone there do you know if they prefer FtMs to mark male or female on their paper work? I'm filling out stuff on their Patient Portal and not sure what to check. Currently selected male and planning to mention it where you write the reason for the appointment.

I go to the Mazzoni Center.  They are pretty great.  They are good with using the right pronouns and name.  I did start T there.  It just involved going for the first appointment, in which I talked with one of the doctors (Dr. Goodman). He asked different questions (I can't remember that well as it was in January) I think including things about how long I felt like this, etc. and questions about family support and medical history.  Then I had blood drawn so they could run tests.  The next step was an appointment with Amelia who is like their resident therapist or something.  She discusses different effects of taking T, asks some questions to make sure that you aren't rushing into it and that there couldn't be an underlying psychological reason for you wanting to take it.  Then as long as there are no concerns, you can schedule a third appointment to talk with the doctor again.  I did the second 2 on the same day though, cause I had to come from NJ.  So after talking with her I met with Dr. Goodman again, he looked at the blood work results, and then talked about a few more things.  After that he said that he would call my prescription in, and then it could be mailed to me or to them, so I had it mailed to me.  I also asked them to show me then how to do the shot so that I wouldn't have to come back and they didn't have a problem with it.  So I had my first appointment on January 25th, my second/third on February 16th or so? and I started T on February 25th which is when my T got my house.

I can't remember very well, but I had called to make the appointment and then filled out the forms and stuff when I got there.  But I'm pretty sure it would be okay for you to put male.  I'm pretty sure they would understand especially if you are including why you are making the appointment.  I'm sorry if that didn't make sense or if it was rushed, I just tried to write what I could remember.  If you have any other questions, I can try to help.

you can mark whatever box you damn well please. they are awesome there.

at your first appointment, they have you fill out more paperwork, and on that there is a box for FTM.

don't be disappointed when you find out when your appointment is. as a primer, i had to wait about 2 months and my MTF friend has to wait now from the end of july to the middle of october.

there are two nurse practitioners there that are both FTM that see transguys and prescribe t. amelia is awesome and she seems really young.

they also give out letters to change your legal documents so don't be afraid to ask.

Did they do the blood work on the same day as the first appointment? How long did the therapist appointment last? That's awesome that you can have it mailed to them. How big is the package? Just wondering if I will have a hard time smuggling it into the house. Thanks for the reply.

Yeah, they did do the blood work on that first appointment.  And I believe the therapist appointment was around an hour?  It wasn't all that bad.  It might depend on where they send your prescription to.  I think they normally do Stroehecker's but they did someplace different for me.  The place that I got it from though the package was really pretty small.  I would think you could easily hide it in a backpack, or a messenger bag or something.  I don't know about Stroehecker's though.
