Title: DID SOMEONE EVER SNATCH YOUR WIG IN PUBLIC?
Post by: Sad Girl on August 14, 2011, 12:22:05 AM
The most sensitive case and the perhaps biggest fear of humiliation of all of us.

2002: I was still a teen then and cross-dressing on and off. In a party they snatched it off but I didn't mind as it was my own friends and they did it for fun and they were drunk.

2004/2004/2009: THRICE in a bus, a bunch of macaque gangs and homophobics tried to and they were talking LOUD saying "We should snatch that ->-bleeped-<-'s wig off". Fortunately they were just talking. The 2nd gang tried to but fortunately they were just school teens and I slammed one of them with my umbrella and they stopped. The 3rd gang were college guys and I menaced them with a knife and they freaked off (which I need to bring with me always as trans here are in very HIGH risk of physical assault by the hostile public)  :embarrassed:

2009: This time it was another jealous trans itself and it happened on the road outside of a night club, all this cos of jealousy. It ended up very nasty, she tried to kill me by throwing a brick on me and me I start running after her with a knife (of course I wouldn't kill her, was just to scare her) And police who were passing saw me. Fortunately 1 of the police in the police station was my ex and told his colleagues to let me go.

What about you? Did someone ever snatch your wig off? And if it'd happen to you, what would do?

Wow, you have a story, lol. I'm more worried about it falling off (I don't wear one yet), but it would be really embarrassing.

Use toupee tape to help hold it on.  I wear a piece that I actually glue on, and I have never had a problem.  Lasts about two weeks, even sleeping with it on.

That sounds itchy. Wouldn't extensions work better?

I don't know about this topic being a rude question.
It is a realistic fear.

Maybe it would be a good idea to fold up a small silk scarf in a sandwich bag in your purse for an emergency if your hair was actually stolen.

I wear a partial hairpiece which is held on by three toupee clips, so it would hurt me a fair bit.  My hairdresser couldn't pick it, so it's unlikely any passerby would, but they wouldn't like the result.  It  would be an assault and I would defend myself.

V M * Never worn a wig and would never ask such a rude question *

A RUDE question? Why ever?

I been told long ago there are no rude/silly/stupid questions, BUT there are rude/silly/stupid answers.

Food for thought?

I've considered wig use, I have hair but I like the idea of options of hair, and a lot my heros wore wigs. But wigs have followed me around a little.

My granny used to wear a wig, she had her own hair but she always wanted grey hair, she thought it distinguished (she died before her hair got grey).
Well one day they went down to Margate, rode the spinny teacups ride in the wind and .... woosh! Off went the wig, right in the ride operator's face, never wore one again.

My dad used to be the accountant of a wig maker.

and I once had to steal a wig in a play where I played a pickpocket (though obvuously not the pocket I was picking)

- But your experiences with wigs seem much more violent and less whimsical then my own reveries.

I was always terrified that my wig would get snatched in public. It never did but I was always really wary and protective of it and I feel sure that contributed more to my visibility.

Thankfully I have my own hair now and much more confidence.

I am not quite sure where you live, but snatching anything of others in public is very rude. Never seen that kind of incidents here or in other countries where I have travelled.

But, verbal harassment sometimes happens to me.

When I was in Seoul downtown, a young man approached me, saying like "Excuse me." I ignored it, but he repeated it. He came near by me and I saw him. He was a tidy young man at his 20s. While looking at my eyes, he asked like "I am wondering whether you are a man." I just ignored him, away from him.

With my male colleagues, I once entered a man's restroom after finishing a marathon course. One stranger said like "I thought he was a woman, but he is pissing standing up."

But sometimes positive comments, too.

While I ran for a marathon event, one man behind me commented like "your body is more feminine and slim than women!". They can easily know I am a man by the color of number tag (red - women, black - men, etc).

And more. Probably more than once per week. I guess people like talking to me, whether they are men or women, kids or adults.

I'm lucky, thick dark hair at shoulder length, no need for a wig.

There was a time I was standing at the bar chatting up a man who wanted to go to bed with me. Two lesbians were also standing at the bar just behind me. Apparently they were betting on whether I was wearing a wig, so one reached out and pulled my hair. She was very embarrassed when she found out it was attached to my scalp. All I knew was that someone was pulling my head back by the hair.
