Title: While Medicare doesn't cover GRS, it DOES cover HRT...
Post by: Julie Marie on August 15, 2011, 03:20:23 PM
The new resource explains that, while Medicare does not cover sex reassignment surgery, it does cover medically necessary hormone therapy and routine preventive care, regardless of the gender marker in one's records. It also details how to navigate the appeal process if you are denied coverage.

I'm not on Medicare right now (living with my dad, so I fall under his income), but when I get back to campus I will be.

How much is HRT though? Without insurance.

If you go on Medicare you're covered for a lot more than HRT.  And usually by the time you qualify, your body is falling apart.

I'm on my dad's insurance, but I still qualify for Medicare (technically Tenncare). I'm not sure why I qualify, but it's likely because of my income. I have no work and I'm a full time student.

Medicare, bah.  Part A, B, C, D.

Which company do you use for C and D, I get ads everyday from different companies telling me why I should pick them.  Its all money, there must be a big profit in it for them.

Right now I just have part A, that is hospital coverage.  Part B I opted out of until my wife retires next year.

As always, I wish Medicaid covered the aspects of transitioning as well...

I'm on medicaid, and I never have to pay for HRT (so far) - so I guess I'm lucky?
