Title: Do you ever wear guy shirts?
Post by: ~RoadToTrista~ on August 18, 2011, 11:50:29 PM
I was talking to my friend whose cis, she's really pretty but she's taller and has broader shoulders than most girls. She said that she doesn't like girl shirts because they're shaped uncomfortably. When we were on vacation, there were 2 of the same shirts, one was a girl shirt and one was a guy shirt, she got the guy shirt. Still looked good on her though.

All of mine got retired when I started transition.  They got replaced with girl-cut t-shirts pretty quickly, but as transition progressed, I moved on up to babydoll shirts almost exclusively.  Then, when I came out and went full time (which was the same week) I instantly ditched all my t-shirts for tanktops, the babydoll shirts, and any shirt that was low-cut.

I can't afford to change my wardrobe much yet, so about 80% of my clothes remain guy clothes.

I'm actually looking forward to my birthday for once in my life, I'm hoping to get some nice shirts as gifts.  :)

Yeah, right... how much guy stuff can we wear before tipping the balance and are 'sired' - again?

When I go for my daily walks I could test that first hand. Preceptions - and us passing is always the 'sum' of a quick check over.

Facial features, boobs?/shoulders, hips, dress. Can watch how the 'boy-radar' goes over one.

If too many single things don't check --- you are clocked.
If you dress 'over the top' of course the same happens.

I have some shirts I kept, but cut off the collars (the fold over part), they now are a bit more andro but I'm to andro to feel OK to wear them, other then for nighties in summer.

I wear my husbands shirts and T shirts from time to time.  He's 6' 2" so they are nice and comfy.

I'm wearing a grateful dead guy shirt right now. Just cuff the sleeves and people start to think they're girl shirts anyway. I kept about 5 bright ones and cut up three others for sleeping.

I still have a couple of guy t-shirts left My O'Neal, Quicksilver, and of course My Goonies shirt lol. I wear them on occasion out about sometimes to work, sometimes to grocery shop. But that is the extent of the remains of my guys clothes.

My Goonies shirt

Rawk!!! ;D

You know, I've always had an affinity for Charlie Brown and Peanuts shirts, and I miss wearing my old ones but they fit like guy shirts.  Found an ADORABLE one in Illinois that was my size, but the neck opening wasn't big enough to let more than an apple through.  Pissed me off to no end!

And yes, I checked to make sure I wasn't trying to put my head through the sleeve.  Been there, done that.

mm, I have a few guy/unisex T shirts but they suit me because when I put them on my shape um.. distinguishes me from boys, but they can be a b*tch to put on since many of them have that tiny collar, and also I borrow some of the dress shirts from a friend which ironically I never wore before transition but I was still told that I looked sexier in it than he ever would.  :D

It's just nice to feel free to butch up and down at will and not worry about other people's perception of you, in which I normally don't put much stock anyway.

Nope, I don't wear anything with the plackets going the wrong way.
(Think Napoleon, he had his right hand tucked in his jacket.
Women's clothing today is designed so that you can strike a stance with your left hand.)

Besides, unless you find an "athletic cut" to a dress shirt, most men's shirts are tents.
Women's shirts are usually more tailored.

When you have boobs that can't very well can't be hidden, it doesn't matter what gender your shirt was made for

The only non-guy shirt I have is the one I'm wearing in my profile pic. :D

Other than that, it's still guy clothes for me.

I got rid of all my guy shirts. I love the women's deep v-neck shirts at American Eagle Outfitters. They fit perfectly. They're pretty much my staple tee and they are way more comfortable than men's t-shirts. I always found men's shirts to be thick and heavy feeling. Also, unless I paid like $20+ for a t-shirt, it was always hard to find tees that were slimmer and didn't look like they were cut to accommodate a gut. Wtf is that all about? I swear most men's t-shirt that are under $20 look like they flare out to accommodate a beer belly, even in a size medium. I guess that tells you something about class inequality in the U.S. No thanks on the thick, heavy poncho tees.

I have a handful of male clothing, about half a drawer worth. I use it for occasions when I get sick for extended periods and don't want to do my laundry. Or when I forget to do my laundry and run out of clothes.

In total, I have 3 male t shirts and that is all.

Sure!I got rid of 19 garbage bags full of old guy clothes but I kept some too. I kept about 5 long-sleeved t shirts to use for night shirts. I have 3 pairs of old lacrosse shorts. Lol, I don't wear those too often because they remind me of what I wore daily pre-transition. I have the suit I got married in, it was a $2,000 Armani suit and I can't bring myself to donate it, lol, even though it's in a bag in my closet. I have 3-4 other suits that I can't stand to just give away, sitting in my closet. They don't bother me, I don't bother them. I don't see my past as something that must be isolated and abolished. I'm at peace with it. I have worn some of my guy shirts in youtube videos and irl, people don't go 'OMG! THAT'S A GUY SHIRT!" I think they are thinking 'awww, cute, a boyfriend shirt!" Ok, well, minus the cute part, but I had to throw that in there because my guts hurt right now and I'm delirious :) Meghan

i just bought two guys izod sweaters this week from work. They were made nicely and they are very cute...the dusty rose color one have gotten me compliments on (have to wear sweaters at work sometimes because its very cold in there).

So, while i have thrown away all my guy clothes, i have bought some after transition.

If they look cute and not masculine, ill buy it.

This shirt is not a guy shirt, but it gets me misgendered. I love this shirt :/

Right now in my situation since i'm done with school and trying to get employed, I'm always home which gives me no reason to get dressed up as female.
I just wear all my "boy" pajamas all day every day!
It's really comfy:D

I also should have mentioned I'm not full time yet lol.
