Title: An Exceptionally Profound Teaching
Post by: Princess of Hearts on August 19, 2011, 04:34:22 PM
I have been suffering from a rather severe depression these last few days.    This was brought about by an external stressor.   Reading to take my mind off things, I came across this :

In darkness are they who worship the world alone, but in
greatest darkness are they who worship the infinite alone.
By a knowledge of the former we are saved from death, and
by a knowledge of the latter we are preserved to immortality.

Isa Upanishad

I hope that Zenda reads this as I think that she will appreciate it.

Kia Ora Princess,
::) Thanks for the food for thought...

I hope your bout of depression has lifted...I'm sure having read both Hindu and Buddhist literature you are well aware of the impermanent nature of all things, which includes ones thoughts, moods, emotions, etc...

Many people who suffer from depression have found meditating on Metta {Loving Kindness} can help lift one out of a depressed state...But this would depend on how severe ones bout of depression is...

By a knowledge of the former we are saved from death, and
by a knowledge of the latter we are preserved to immortality.

The perfect balance comes about when, the material becomes spiritualised and the spiritual becomes materialised...

Eventually leading one to a deeper more profound  understanding
"Form is emptiness-Emptiness is form !"
