Title: Great Night Last Night!
Post by: Alex37 on August 20, 2011, 02:47:43 PM
I had an awesome night last night, and I just want to share. :)

My ex bf and I went out for drinks, and the restaurant had $2 mexican car bombs.  So, a few car bombs later I was feeling pretty confident, and we went to a bar at which our circle of "friends" hang out.  I've been out for a while, and everyone knows via my ex, but I had been avoiding that place for a while because I was nervous.  I had gone there a couple of times before, but on far less crowded nights, so I saw a bunch of people for the first time since I came out last night.  It's weird how the people I thought would have a problem don't care at all, and the people who I thought would be cool with it aren't.  And the alcohol helped, but I talked to people!  I used to feel so uncomfortable that I never said anything.  Now that I'm not censoring myself and trying to be someone I'm not, I had fun.  Anyway, pretty much everyone there had no problem with me.  It's really just two guys who were a bit standoffish, and they didn't use to be.  It was probably because I was drunk, but it didn't get to me at all, even though later I found myself sharing one side of a booth in a restaurant with one of those guys.  I just enjoyed the fact that his discomfort was his own problem, and he couldn't ruin my night.  Anyway, when I was still at the second bar I ran into a girl who I used to talk to a lot but haven't seen in a few years.  She recognized me (thought I looked like a girl, but whatever) and we talked about discrimination and how you don't realize you have privilege until you lose it.  So, I ended up telling her I'm trans.  She had never heard about it, but she was completely accepting.  A few of the guys around us who weren't regulars there looked a bit uncomfortable, but I was proud of myself for having the courage to out myself in front of strangers.  After that my ex and I met some friends at yet another restaurant (the one with the uncomfortable guy) and we had more drinks and hot wings, and they were nice enough to tape my debit card that had split in two back together for me.  So yeah, awesome night.  Completely ruined my diet, but it was totally worth it.  ;D
