In new film "Gun Hill Road," actor Esai Morales plays Enrique, a man from the Bronx who just came home after three years in prison. The film follows Enrique as he begins to discover how his family has changed over the past three years – including his wife's fidelity.

Enrique also finds that his only son, teenager Michael, has fundamentally changed. He has been saving up for gender reassignment surgery, and wants to be a woman. The film was a highlight of this year's Sundance Film Festival, and San Francisco's Frameline. Nishat Kurwa of TurnStyleNews.com caught up with director Rashaad Ernesto Green by phone to talk about how a young transgender woman was cast in the leading role as the teenage "Michael."
