Title: Pay for FFS with card?
Post by: JenJen2011 on August 26, 2011, 05:05:07 PM
I can almost cover the full amount for FFS with my credit card and current savings.  I don't know if I want to use my card though.

Have the female face I've always wanted now and be in debt?

Or

Stick with the face I have for right now and wait 1 year or more until I can save up the funds?

I'm stuck...what would you do?

Never, NEVER EVER! buy anything with a credit card that doesn't last as long as the payments.  So a good suit you can put on a card, putting dinner and/or a movie on it is dumb.  FFS lasts longer than the payments, so you're clear.

Never carry credit card debt. Get a medical loan if you want to do it now. Paying 19% or whatever the skeery hell it is in interest is entirely insane.

Yeah i thought about doing this for my SRS surgery when the time comes. I think you can get a medical credit card throu care credit if you have no bad past credit.

Depends on the card, really.  When I have enough money for SRS, I'm going to max out my credit card that gets frequent flyer miles, pay the rest in cash, then pay off the credit card balance the next month.  No interest charge that way and you get benefits!

That's what I do with my bills right now.  Every bill that I can pay on that card, I do.  Then I simply pay the balance in full to avoid interest.  In five years, I've racked up enough points for three round-trip tickets and didn't pay a single penny more than I would have if I'd paid my bills out of my bank account.

NEVER pay anything with a credit card if you can't pay it back right now. Credit cards, whilst not having interests right away, which is good, are, apart from suspicious arrangements, the highest interest sort of credit there is. Why do you think they go through the trouble of lending you money for free? Because when people don't pay, it's their best source of money interest profit. Or one of the best.

It's WAY too high. If you're gonna borrow money, don't do it this way.

As a related question then, how would one go about getting loan financing for this? Are there organizations or financial institutions that actually offer them? Is it something doctors offer through servicers? Are the rates fair?

I'm sure some SRS or GRS doctors accept payment this way. I know for a fact that more then a few known FFS surgeons do.

Not all credit cards are high interest...in fact, there are plenty of 0% one year offers out there that go to something reasonable at the expiration of the term.  I still have several cards under 7%.

Another thing to look at is whether it is a rewards card...when one can max the rewards, using a card can make a LOT of sense...
